Ashita no joe has inspired me to fight. Not boxing but Muay Thai. I want to burn my flame until it’s white ash. I don’t want to regret. And joe taught me that. Thank you Joe you are not only tomorrow’s joe, you’re my tomorrow too. Joe you’ve made me be able to accept the consequences of what I want to do. I hope if my flame burns to white ash that it’s as bright as yours. I know it’s crazy to some people to think that. But what’s human if they have nothing to die for. I don’t think they are very human at all. All those people watching joe. I think at the end, any of them would of trade places with joe. They would of died for joe. Because he was hope. I want to give people that. I’m not much but ayy, if can make people change and want to do better then I did something right just like joe. I don’t have much going for me. And I know it shouldn’t be but it’s all got. It’s my only escape in this world. For my problems and stress. Who would think that punching and getting punched at, could actually calm someone is amazing. I wanted to fight always, but joe has cemented it. I am forever grateful for joe and many other fighters who taught me that giving your all isn’t that bad. Find something you love and let it kill you. If it’s marriage and a stable job like nishi. Or fight like joe. Or what ever you love dedicate it all like joe. Till your last breath. That’s the only way to be satisfied with this thing called life. Or other words you’ll be bitter with regret. No of that kings and queens. If you don’t know what is search till you die. Because that’s better than nothing. Thank you to the creator of this video. And to joe thank you will never be enough. I’m the biggest berserk fan. And joe tops guts for me personally. I hope to live as bright as joe. And I hope everyone does. Find your flame and let it burn.

I think that Joe's last moments was directly dedicated to the people he crossed paths with. It was the representation of his love and dedication for not only boxing, but for the people that gave him his "tomorrow." Joe's flaming ambition was so strong that it even beat surpassed logic and reason, but even that wasn't enough to stand up against Mendoza. Near the last rounds, you could see that part of him dying out slowly, as each and every subsequent round lead with Jose's complete and utter domination. Yet, Yoko's words marked a change in the pace of the fight. The memories of his battles, both in the ring and out were starting to come back. It was like the old "joe" had came back. Instead of blindly charging in, he started to side step and weave, with a fervent persistence that even drove the perfect champion mad. Then the last round came, where Joe remembered every single technique he used, even the defense tactics he used against Aoyama back in prison. To me, it was obvious that Joe's intentions wasn't to burn away his passion and ambition, but instead it was much simpler. He just wanted to give the people who loved him one last beautiful match, which is why instead of closing his eyes on the result of the match, he closed his eyes after giving a farewell to the woman who loved him most. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I am Japanese. More than 40 years ago, I saw this anime on a rerun. It's still burned into my mind. I cried when Carlos Rivera turned into a punch-drunker and after the last fight with Jose Mendoza. I still remember. Galaxy Express 999, Space Battleship Yamato, Ashita no Joe I think Japanese animation in the 1970s is still the best in this era. Changing the subject, the historical background is the shitamachi in the eastern part of Tokyo in the 1960s when Japan was undergoing economic recovery after the war, but now it has become a beautiful town and there is no trace of that time. I lived in a town about 30 minutes by train from that town. The place name Namidabashi is still there, but now it looks like a different town. However, because it is a downtown area, everyone is friendly and fun. But the thing that surprised me the most was how well people overseas knew about such an old anime from 50 years ago.

Also the pacing is weird, and the original ending of the first run of the show is super weird and only adds confusion. This anime appeared to me at the peak of my Depression, when I locked myself away in my bedroom, wanting to be always drunk, numb to the pain. But, after watching this anime the night I was drunk, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was already training boxing at the time, but I never really had this passion within me until I watched this. I wanted to die, but I never had a reason to die for. Finding your passion in Boxing, Muay Thai, martial arts in general, or even any hobby is like falling in love. Finding your reason to live, to love, is the same thing that gives you a reason to die. The question is: "would I be willing to die for something I love?" That was the question that stayed in my mind the night I watched this anime. I managed to fight back my Depression, but there are days that it becomes unbearable. I am still training for almost 2 years and this anime has been stuck with me since then.

I first got into Ashita no Joe when I was an exchange student in Hiroshima in 2001. The final image of Joe on his seat after his fight with Mendoza is an iconic image there, so it inspired me to read the manga (I wouldn’t watch the anime for another five years, and my Japanese at the time was basic, but enough to understand the story). I’ve always been a boxing fan (thanks to Mike Tyson, who inpsired me to also enjoy Hajime no Ippo). What I love is that Joe is a very flawed character. He’s practically Rocky Balboa before he was Rocky Balboa, but Japanese. I think he’s a very hard character to sell to younger audiences since he displays qualities that some would retroactively call “toxic masculinity.” Joe has undeniably been an asshole to the people around him, especially towards Tange and Yoko. But I wouldn’t call it toxic masculinity, but Joe didn’t know better. He had no education. Despite not finishing the third grade, he is still literate, but at times, he’d make Mike Tyson at his lowest look like a saint, but we still love him. Joe found his own path in his own way and the way it ends, he wouldn’t want it any other way. But Ashita no Joe is certainly a unique refelction of Japan after WWII, and by the time the series ends, Japan was about to enter a new era of prosperity, so a guy like Joe Yabuki had no place in that Japan, so ending him the way it did makes perfect sense to also signify the end of an era.

I know this over a year late and I know people will dislike this idea but I want a new anime for Ashita no Joe mainly for new viewers to get into this series because I read this series during my college finals and it encouraged me to move forward. I know it’ll get a toxic fandom but I want more people to experience what is probably my favorite sports manga tied only with slam dunk and with Ippo in a solid second. But this series is special, so special to me that Joe is probably my second favorite character in all of fiction. If we don’t get a new anime adaptation please just give us an official translation of the manga and a release of the 70s/80s anime on streaming platforms because a series this amazing needs the recognition it deserves, along with season four of Ippo and a new anime for Slam Dunk because the original anime never finished the manga’s story. But with the current state of the industry as of late it’ll probably never happen as sad as it is to say because Ashita no Joe is truly one of the greatest stories out there, but let’s hope for a new tomorrow.

Yall know what I realized? 80s and 90s anime would be BANGERS with modern animation tech, if it doesnt change the story, for example there was this one Space war anime that was REALLY REALLY fucken good and I saw a basically rebooted version with "modern" animation and it was GOLD, I just cant for the life of me remember the name of that.

Ippo vs Miyati shall be the same Joe vs Rakishi. The friends and rivals
@ringtone-sama9 ай бұрын
Damn man I don't even know when the heck is Ippo getting in the ring I don't know what the authors intentions are with the manga. Some say Ippo is done and that he is embracing boxing in a different way by being a second/coach while others believe his coming back. I hope he does though but it might also happen at a tragic moment, perhaps if something happens to Miyata or if Sendo fails to best Ricardo
