I just watched the last episode today man. I feel sad man. I started watching this series last year in the beginning of my last year in highschool. I'm almost in the middle of my first year of university. This anime taught me so much about how chasing after the wind, going after something even when you feel lost and giving it your all, burning like a huge blazing flame until the very end. Joe was truly a man's man.

It's kinda goes both way. In the manga, the author let the reader decides wether he just passed out or died for real. But in the anime, they straight up make him dead. Which traumatized the Japanese viewer a lot since the year the final episode was when the they record the highest amount of Japanese boxer died in the ring. And Joe, even if he is a fictional character, is one of them.
@Hojox3294 ай бұрын
It makes sense, he took too many hits to the head, irl a boxer has the chance of dying in their first ever bout from an unlucky knock to the head, all sorts of other risks too like blindness from a detached retina or even a kind of senility from being punch-drunk A boxer over 30 could be considered old due to how intense it is as a sport in and out of the ring
@proximity11053 ай бұрын
Funnily enough this is a heavily debated topic in Japanese circles. Friend of mine who frequents forums recalls there being a long discussion which even had a Medschool Student chime in. IIRC The consensus is Joe SHOULD be dead for the impact of the story, but due to the way he's leaning in the chair he CANNOT be dead, as his body wouldnt be able to remain in that position without strain and would just double over onto the floor.

If you have seen the whole anime than this scene makes perfect sense. And it sucks in a way that it has gained popularity recently by short videos with catchy songs just showing the ending.. but I guess it brings out a certain non context meaning to it. so you get a short lived/long lasting effect.. but THIS.. after the journey you go through, this.. "season 2".. (since people only mention the name and not that it is 2..) this is the fruits of many emotional times spent together and you cannot get that easily, and definitely not by a 3 minute video.. so watch it if you haven't and for those whom have..... :) ... @@toniotrussardi8126Joe could’ve found another way, this is why Ashita No Joe is a tragedy, sure he went out fulfilled but this wasn’t the ONLY way he could’ve done that. Joe was suicidal after having killed Rishiki and Youko blaming him for it and telling him he had to die in the ring definitely didn’t help. It’s clear throughout the story just how broken Joe is as a person which makes it all even worse. Still Joe does have a passion for fighting and heart that all men should strive to have, but they shouldn’t strive to be suicidal like Joe.

Same, the first ost from the first season fit because Joe was still rough around the edges, going through all the turmoil and still being a wild kid who has no idea where his going. Midnight blues gives the vibe of maturity as Joe finally becomes more of a man and his wild side becomes more tamed, it's also upbeat despite sounding sad because even though things are going bad, Joe has given it his all and has enjoyed his fight for his dream till the very last moment
@son-zora51747 ай бұрын

Yabuki died with a smile on his face, as did Rikiishi, his great rival. Some choose an ordinary life and are afraid of death, just like Jose, others face it like an old companion, burn in flames and become ashes, and perhaps in this way they find meaning in life. Goromaki removing his hat as a sign of respect is also an incredible frame.

While I do believe Joe Died because I believe that was the purpose of this fight for Joe to “turn to ash”. The artist and writer have said conflicting things over the years. The artist said no he isn’t dead and the writer said that he is. Just so people know an artist of a manga holds the same weight as the writer most of the time since help to write the actual scenes and dialogue. But I firmly believe if Joe didn’t die right there he probably would’ve died soon anyway. Also in the manga it is left up to interpretation.
