I love the story of Regulus Black, aka R.A.B. Regulus discovered that Voldemort created horcruxes before anyone and steals the original locket horcrux, replacing it with a fake. Regulus died in the cave that day, unable to escape the inferi that dragged him to his death but not before telling Kreacher the elf to take the locket and leave. Regulus dies, nobody knows, his family all die and he is practically erased from existence. Regulus story could’ve been a great subplot for the book and in today's video I'm going to explain why.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Regulus The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Dumbledore would tell you. It’s a Dark Wizard legend. Darth Regulus was a Dark Lord of the Wizards, so powerful and so wise he could use the Magic to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark magic that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Magic is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

@@marciaosullivan3200 I love Harry Potter and Star Wars is great, too. The first six movies are fantastic. But what do you think about star Wars 7-9? I think Star Wars 7 is still quite good because it's a good a idea that Finn joins the good side because he's seen what kind of terrible things the dark side does. Star Wars 8 I don't really like as I just don't get it, especialy that Snoke dies so easily. In my opinion Star Wars 9 is not good at all because Palpatine was suppose to be dead even if he may have skills to trick death. But I think you would have known about that. The worst thing about Star Wars 9 is that if Palpatine surrived in Star Wars 6 which he did, Anakin didn't do his job as the chosen one killing the dark Lord. I hate that Rey turned out to be a Palpatine since I can't imagine him having had a woman or even ever having children. That Kylo Reth is the one I liked the most in Star Wars 9 says a lot.

I think Sirius never knowing the truth about his brother is a poignant element of realism. Oftentimes in real life, people die with things left unsaid and secrets left undiscovered.

@@nelsoncherrier3855 yeah it adds a very realistic sadness to the whole thing. Sirius dies thinking that his brother is nothing but a coward when in reality he was an unsung and brave hero. And was willing to die with the perception that he was a coward to try and stop Voldemort. Sirius not knowing was his intention- and that intention was fulfilled to keep him safe. Hopefully in the afterlife they’ve reunited and made peace 💗

@@sarakhawar1221 Welcome to my Ted talk I mean, the cursed child failed me because they used the same character and changed their core personalities, there is no novelty there and the original characters don't have a complex or appealing personality (in my opinion) and RAB has this story that is linked to the main antagonist and a side character but it doesn't interfere with the main characters of the serie, it is a side story, everything is new and we get to see a different pov of the story that affects the main timeline and a different perspective of the black family and I think that is beautiful. The story is relevant, intricate, original but fits in the story because it's a story that had happened before the main story, call me crazy idc it's my opinion

@@MrHarrystank That's very interesting. I'm inclined to agree ( although obviously we can't know for sure) but your points really got me thinking about what sort of mettle writers are made of. Writers like Ursula K. Le Guin are interesting if underrated since like you put forth, she's one of those writers that go from idea to idea and different concepts. She wrote the Earthsea series of course, but she also has a wealth of short stories and she just seems to me to jump from idea to idea. I think it's one of the reasons she is so underrated and underappreciated ( even though she sort of gained cult recognition in the Sci fi community). The reason I think writers like JK and Tolkien receive so much recognition ( whether posthumously or in their lifetimes) is that people want to be absorbed into a world, they grow an attachment to reccuring characters , as if they are friends and that's why people stick around ( even if there is a lull in the series). I love the Harry Potter series and the world JK created, but it's true she never came close to anything thereafter whether they were spin offs or unrelated to the series.

The reason why Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is Seamus Gorman’s least favourite HP movie is because it didn’t include Regulus’s story, but it included Harry and Hermione dancing and he makes a good point. Just WHY didn’t they include Regulus in it? It would show that not every Black was with Voldemort.

Regulus's story is so sad. He deserved to be remembered cause he made the hardest thing ever - he changed and acted with courage and dignity. He could have made Kreacher drink the potion but he actually loved and respected the elf. I think Sirius was actually jealous of the bond between them not just hurt of the nasty elf's attitude. And he kind of deserved that attitude. It's hard to admit but Harry, growing up with the Dursleys had a better understanding of the elves. Almost like Luna who has the best one ever. And I think if Sirius had found out the truth about his brother...that guilt would have crushed him. He survived Azkaban because of the feeling of innocence for the crime he was thrown in but all that time he had been feeling guilty for the Potter's demise while having no actual fault...Not technically. But he misjudged his friend's loyalty and was suspicious of Lupin. I think, if Sirius had found out that he also misjudged his brother...that would have been too much.

One thing about Kretcher being able to disapperate out of the cave is that Regulus told him to come home, he had to obey his master. It wasn't just because he was had the ability to it was because he was commanded to.

Really, the Black family was almost entirely in direct opposition to Voldemort by the time of his death. In addition to the Blacks who died opposing Voldemort, Andromeda was married to a muggle-born, Narcissa lied to Voldemort's face about Harry Potter being alive, and Kreacher was in the direct service of Harry Potter. The only ones still on Voldemort's side were Bellatrix and the freaking portrait at Grimauld Place, which probably doesn't even count.

I agree Regulus was an unsung hero, but I disagree about being "fragile" and unable to continue following Lord Voldemort. On the contrary, I believe his delusions of Rightness in his parents bias in pure magical blood being all important were quickly unraveled as he spent time in Voldemort's presence along with the Deatheaters. I think he was looking to be the counter to the utter disappointment Sirius was to his parents; the burning of Sirius off the family tree when Regulus was only 14. Im sure he vowed then to never waver in the Pure Blood is Superior line of thinking. Regulus was also likely a gifted and intelligent wizard, able to penetrate Voldemort's secret of using Horcuxes; no Deatheater knew this secret besides Snape and Regulus; interesting that both rejected Voldemort after Voldemort killed or attempted to kill someone they loved. And make no mistake, Kreecher and Regulus were very close; Sirius left and Regulus only had Kreecher to fill that void. I also think Regulus loved...and maybe secretly admired...his older brother. Who would be in the line of fire. Regulus is only 2 years younger, and he knew who Sirius was friends with. It would only be a matter of time before a confrontation between Voldemort and Sirius' group of friends. So, i think Regulus died thinking he was making his brother safer, and maybe "his match" refers to a brother ostracized but still idolized.

JK Rowling said Regulas was like Draco - they were young and in over their heads when they joined the Death Eaters. However, I like to think that Regulas had a different reason for adopting his parents’ prejudice and joining the Death Eaters. Like you said, Sirius’s disowning would have influenced Regulas, possibly scared him into believing pure blood supremacy. He was probably scared of losing his family if he didn’t. Joining the Death Eaters would just secure his parents’ love forever. He probably wasn’t as prejudiced as he though. Sirius believed in equality but abused the family house elf Kreacher. Regulas believes in pure blood supremacy but treated Kreacher kindly. That might be a sign that Regulas is not fully prejudiced. I think when Regulas saw the horrors committed by the Death Eaters and Voldemort and how the latter hurt Kreacher, Regulas grew a spine and finally rebelled.

Regulus's story adds more complexity to the Harry Potter characters. It shows that people are capable of redemption, and just before Harry kills Voldemort, Harry gives him a chance to redeem himself. It's a shame JKR chose not to give a redemption story to Draco, though.

He had a half redemption, and I prefer it that way. I think if he became a hero and joined Harry, it would have been too cliche. He did have signs of being a good person deep down. He lied to Bellatrix in Malfoy Manor, and couldn’t bring himself to kill Dumbledore. He is a complex and 3 dimensional character who always had good in him, and I like how his story finished. He could never be a friend of Harry. The two will never be. But he did have a redemption arc of some sort.

Draco wasn't evil, he was just an asshole. Saving Harry is redemption enough for me. The Malfoy family saved him at least three times. Lucius saved him in Goblet of Fire by goading Voldemort into exposing his back story. Voldemort was going to kill him instantly but the goad saved Harry some time and allowed him to escape. Draco saved him time in Malfoy manor, allowing him to escape. Narcissa saved him more time in the forest right after Voldemort asked her to confirm he's dead. Malfoy means Bad Faith in French. "Mal Foi" and that is exactly the type of people they are because they are not loyal and betrayed Voldemort and his cause.

Yeah, Draco didn't toss his wand to Harry in the books. It was cut from the film because JKR didn't approve of it. Draco was intended to be an antagonist to the hero. She made sure to make it clear he's not evil and doesn't want his "enemies" dead but he is still intended to be a selfish bigoted ass hole. Lucius was intelligent, he played both sides to keep his family safe and it actually worked. Their family is pretty interesting but everything they do is basically in their families best interests. Had Harry actually died, they still likely would have survived the war but Harry's death would signify the Malfoy family to a life of fear and a form of enslavement by Voldemort. They agreed with pure blood staying pure but who wants that life when it's at the cost of being terrified constantly of what might happen if you piss off the boss? Leaders who rule through fear have difficulty keeping their followers loyal.

I wonder what Sirius's reaction to Regulus turning against the Death Eaters and trying to bring Voldemort down by stealing the Slytherin locket after he realised it was a Horcrux and telling Kreacher to find a way to destroy it? He'd have probably been proud of his brother. Sirius didn't like Kreacher but even he'd have been sickened if he found out that Voldemort made Kreacher drink the Drink of Despair just to test whether the cave's Inferi and DOD defences worked then left the elf in agony there where Kreacher was nearly drowned by the Inferi like Regulus had been until Kreacher Disapparated.

The more I learn about Regulus, the more fascinating I find him. He probably had a different perception of his family due to seeing the conflict that arises when Sirius rebelled against his family's beliefs. I have a certain respect for Regulus since he willingly chose to support his family to keep his parents happy, but it must have been traumatizing to watch his brother leave the house, keep in mind, Regulus was only 14 when this happened, a difficult thing someone to go through at that age. I have a feeling that Regulus wasn't as strongly as indoctornated in the pure blood beliefs as his parents were considering his high morality, he probably just conformed to keep his parents happy. The amount of courage and selflessness it took for him to sacrifice himself is truly interesting considering he's a Slytherin, probably the best Slytherin in my opinion. I know it's unlikely we'll ever get any more media out of Regulus Black, but I hope we get a fan film of him someday.

More than anyone else (Andromeda being a close second), Regulus makes me proud to be a Slytherin. Not only was he compassionate about those he cared about (namely Kreacher), but his cunning and wisdom and intelligence in order to figure out that it was a Horcrux and his bravery in his final moments... his redemptive story is great.

Regulus is one of my favourite character, the parallels between him and Draco both of them got in to deep and couldn't back out. I've had an on going role play with a friend which delves into more of his history and expanded on it.

I feel in all honesty that Regulas's story should have had a flash back. I would have liked to have had Sirus's unfinished letter to Harry that explained that Sirius found out about how Regulus died. He would have said something like "my poor brother, I will fight to bring honor to the name REGULUS ARCTURUS BLACK for as long as I live." The letter will end there and it would be then that Harry would question Creature. As the letter is being read, a magnificent flashback takes over. That is how I would have wanted it to play out.

I think Sirius felt guilt over his brother. He saw his brother being influenced by his family's values and was unable to change his mind, and in the end looked out for himself by living with the Potters and eventually on his own leaving his brother to the Family.

Didn't the books say that Voldemort was making clever banter (or what he arrogantly thought was too clever to be discerned) and Regulus figured a lot of it out from the hints Riddle dropped, believing no one could ever figure it all out? The family's bigotry destroyed them all. One son turned away entirely, and walked straight into a trap laid by a friend he dismissed. The other tried to be a crusader for their cause, only to become a proto-Draco of sorts when the bollocks got real, as it were. Unlike Draco, disgust towards what he had once believed focused him, rather than leaving him bereft and aimless. In that world, I hope that someone develops an invisible wall of flame spell, so that the Inferi in that lake can be tricked into destroying themselves. In that way, RAB can at last RIP.

Regulus's story really stood out to me too when I read The Half Blood Prince. So cool to see I'm not the only one. One of the other things that stood out to me was the fact that Regulus was kind to Kreacher, which also proves that he actually had a good heart.

I agree. He was brought up with long held beliefs and did believe the rhetoric himself initially due to a lack of exposure to opposing views. But the fact that he was self aware enough to realise how wrong it all was when he was no older than 18, displays an inherently noble character. And he died bravely trying to make up for his mistakes on his own, I think if he survived he would have redeemed himself fully. So, he’s a textbook example of a tragic hero, it’s a shame we will never see an RAB/Marauders Era series. 😢

Well Regulus was a really awesome character. Finding out about Voldemort's Horcruxes. But he could actually tell Kretcher to take the locker to Serius or Dumbledore so they can figure out what it was or even tell them. It could really change the story and have some effect towards the war. But still he is awesome

The Black family wasn't totally wiped out at 2 female Black family members survived had children. 1 was Draco Malfoy's mother & the other was Tonk's mother. While their would be no more Blacks, technically the Black family would live on through the Draco Malfoy & Teddy Lupin descendants Harry could tell them about Regulus. Although the Malfoy's might not be open to Reguls's story, I'm postive Teddy & his grandmother would be open to it. This is because like Sirus Teddy's Grandma was disowned from their family, Also, there may actually be other members of the Black family alive. If you watch "Order of the Phoenix" Sirius shows Harry the Black family tree, the tree has several branches blacked out including Sirius's branch. Sirius says that this represents family members who were disowned. Some of these people or there descendants may still be alive

I think Sirius character as a whole should have been bigger in the books, along with that I wish he would have known about what his brother did before they both died, I feel like it would make him less bitter about his family and staying in that house and probably would have helped build a better relationship with kreature

Regulus is my favorite character. His only fault was he tried to handle it by himself. Though I can imagine he might have tried to go to Dumbledore or something but no one trusted him because 1) he was a Slytherin 2) He was a Black and 3) He had probably stood for pureblood ways in school.

A proper scene of flashbacks as Kreacher recounts Regulus’s death gets me misty-eyed just thinking about it. It was such a shocking and emotional part of the book. Then, to have it contrasted with the comedy relief of Kreacher bawling uncontrollably after Harry gives him the locket would have been great onscreen. We Potterheads were definitely cheated on this one.

Makes you wonder what horrible things Kreacher saw when he drank the potion. Dumbledore relived the 3 way duel between him, his brother Aberforth and Grindlewald, Grindlewald torturing Aberforth and Ariana dying trying to stop it. Even though Sirius's parents were evil pureblood supremacists they treated Kreacher well as did Regulus but Kreacher might have had previous masters before the Blacks who were abusive to him.
