It still baffles me that people don’t know that Snape was good buddies with Malfoy. I mean I know it was highlighted in the movies but I guess it was implied by how well Snape looked after Draco. It was like Draco knew Snape before going to Hogwarts & their relationship was closer then teacher/student, almost similar to Dumbledore & Potter. I just assumed people would have caught onto that I guess.
@Кря-ш2н4 жыл бұрын
Jessica Marsh it was more like Minevra/potter relationship in my opinion.
@slothc48924 жыл бұрын
I originaly thought it was just because Draco was a promising student from his own house and his family was rich, plus his dad had influence in the school. Then when the death eaters returned I just assumed his relationship with Lucius was an old comrade bond, actually thought he had a closer friendship with Narssisa because he was willing to make the unbreakable vow. Oh Its Reo My thoughts exactly. It’s easy to label Lucius a coward for abandoning the other Death Eaters to their fates (imprisonment and/or death in most cases) while he himself escaped unscathed, but like you said, he had a wife and a then-infant son to think about as well. Based on that, it becomes clear from the get-go that, no matter how much Lucius supported Voldemort and the Death Eaters’ cause, his family ultimately took priority over everything else. Indeed, there is more than enough evidence throughout the books (especially in Deathly Hallows) to support this point, but I digress.

I like how you've discussed something that often gets overlooked in regards to Lucius: his father basically indoctrinated him - just as he indoctrinated Draco, and likely just as Abraxas was indoctrinated before him. While I'm not saying this excuses Lucius's actions, it does give a realistic focal point as to how he turned out like this. He didn't just wake up and say "filthy little Mudbloods I want them all dead." It takes years of indoctrination and conditioning on the part of the parents to shape a person's mind like this.

Lucius got enough punishment with the public humiliation and living in fear of Voldemort’s wraith. In the end he and his family were pardoned for 3 reasons; 1 (the biggest) Narcissa saved Harry, 2 they abandoned Voldemort at the last minute knowing they will never b on his good side again, and 3 of my thoughts, they told the Ministry everything they know and swore the truth.

There are subtle instances in the movies unlike the comprehensive details in the books that hint to the good relations between Lucius and Snapes. In the chamber of Secrets quidditch match we see Snapes and Lucius Malfoy hanging out on the breaches looking quite relaxed with each other. Another instance is during Umbridge reign in the 5th movie when she reviews his classes and mentions to him that Lucius speaks highly of him in the ministry. Also the fact that Narcissa came to Snapes to request his help in protecting Draco means that she had faith in him due to his years of friendship with Lucius.

It seems pretty poetic what happened to Lucius. He wanted to be on the winning side but lost both wars. He felt himself superior because of his status as a rich pureblood. He used both of these facts to gain power, use and abuse those around him. He wanted to subjugate, abuse, and humiliate those he felt lower than himself. He was happy with it, and followed Voldemort to take those things even further. Until Voldemort turned on him. Until Voldemort, one of the few who were more powerful than him, turned the tables. He treated Malfoy exactly how he wanted to treat others, but realized pretty soon how terrible it was being on the other end. He realized the people he was trying to put in power didn't care about him. Not his power, wealth, or pureblood status. That none of those mattered and his importance was conditional. Screw up, and he was no better than the scum he wanted to rid the wizarding world of. His whole world was fundamentally shaken. He was fine being the abuser, when he thought that couldn't truly change. Afterwards, by very good luck and a lot of Grace, he lived the rest of his life as a shell of the man he was, his family a shadow of it's former self. He'd been disgraced like the families he openly scorned. There's nothing better than someone being served a taste of their own medicine. Malfoy was punted off his pedestal by his own actions, and it was a long fall to the same position he put others in. Well deserved, and a better punishment than death for someone like him.
@jjh24565 жыл бұрын
Ok...Lucius is a slippery character. What is apparent with him is he is only interested in himself and his. He wants power and that’s all. However, if you mess with his family, then his loyalty goes out the window. I think his punishment was watching his son, who I do believe he loved, grow apart from him. Another thing I think is interesting is the story of how he created the time turner, but didn’t use it because even though he could use it to go back in time to change events, he realized that by doing so Voldemort would more than likely be in power, and he would rather be a pariah in the present than for that to ever happen.

@@chendror872 I was always under the understanding that during the 1st wizarding war Snape was the right hand of voldemort, but maybe I'm wrong on that. Bellatrix was definitely more prominent in the 2nd war. Regardless point stands. Safe to assume Snape slit some throats.

@@Hamilgame he never did. Other wise why would Dumbledore not have asked, "How many people have you killed in the past?" Instead of, "How many people have you watched die?" This was in Deathly hallows, Snape's memories, the Prince's tales. Dumbledore was trying to convince him to kill him. In the same memory, Snape was concerned about his soul-the same reason Dumbledore didn't want Draco to kill him-to protect Draco's soul. In half blood prince, Snape wanted to back out even after making the unbreakable vow, in Half blood Prince, Bellatrix and some other death eaters do not trust Severus based on his habit of slythering out of action. Snape wasn't Voldemort's right hand man until after Halfblood prince when he had killed Dumbledore, Lucius was, a reason why Draco was annoyed with Snape during Half blood prince as he believed Snape was trying to take Lucius's place. All these things indicate that Snape never killed or tortured anyone. Compared to Pettigrew who had without any hesitation killed Cedric, an innocent teenager. Snape had other useful skills. He probably just brewed potions for Voldemort during the first wizarding war, plus, unlike Bellatrix and Lucius, Snape didn't join because he supported the cause, he joined out of lonileness, wanting somewhere to belong and his friends from Slytherin, Lucius, Avery and Mulciber were the only ones to accept him and welcome him enough for him to join the death eaters. Lucius malfoy was a Slytherin death eater version of James Potter-he welcomed an abused, lonely, half blood, poor, neglected, muggle raised child (Severus) into Slytherin the same way James had befriended both Sirius and Remus. Plus in prisoner of Azkaban, Snape planned to bring both Sirius and Lupin up to the castle for the Dumbledore, to deal with, instead of killing them. While both Lupin and Sirius planned on killing Pettigrew right in front of three third year students.

Probably. It's never stated in canon but I can imagine he's killed Muggles and Muggle-borns.

I hate how the movie didint show how draco became a death eater and talking to lord voldemort
@timkjggxyz61245 жыл бұрын
You saying Lucius became Voldemort's second in command. That sort of confirms my theory that he was someone like Voldemort's right hand. after Voldemort's return Lucius is not anylonger someone Voldemort thinks is a great servant, but a man to use for anything and someone to laugh about. Voldemort wouldn't care if Lucius died.

@@bobbysingh5666 i have an explanation... I have a thought once during 2003 right after my first time watching The Patriot "this white haired guy might be the fatally wounded Colonel Tavington who actually survived the wound and going back to UK after the Independence of America, and because he could not accept the lost he went to find some magical power to the dark lords" and here go, we have Lucius Malfoy. 😂

Lucius was a racist terrorist before falling out of Voldemort's good graces and he's still a racist terrorist after that. There's nothing to feel bad about. He should've been sent back to Azkaban after the Battle of Hogwarts regardless of if he stopped fighting for Voldemort or not.

Lucy's Malfoy may have been an asshole and may have been overconfident?, arrogance, and vain but there was no need for the dark lord to mistreat him the way he did. I get it that the darklord wanted to make an example of him but I think it was too harsh for him especially when he broke his wand. Why couldn't he leave his wand intact. why did he have to break off the snakehead. it was part of the Wand, part of its demise everything L? Lucius has stood for. I have this walking stick wand myself and I adore it it's one of my favoritewands in my collection and I still keep it in the Box where it was shipped from so that way no scratches at all or anything hurts it because that is my favorite one of all time even though it is a Death Eater wand it still shows Elegance, and Beauty. There was no need for that. The dark Lord loved to embarrass his followers where Gellert Grindelwald would have brought their self-esteem up, he would have made the Wizard worthy for his cause, not humiliation. The Dark Lord with a bully compared to Gellert Grindelwald was a saint compared to the dark. Yes Lucius did have a second one but it was old and boring not compared to the first one where it has Style. Lucius was okay in my book.

Personally, I Think Lucious was sufficiently punished by Society however for the rest of the Death Eaters I feel there are five options: 1. acquit those working under the imperious curse, threat, or family pressure i.e. mainly the children of death eaters and other similar cases 2. probation for those who joined but did not commit any major affronts i.e those who join only after Voldemort had seemingly one and was the ligament leader 3. a sentence of 10 to life with the possibility of parole after 15 pending good behavior this will apply mainly to those followers who were not branded, cloaked, and masked 4. a life sentence for the majority of the death eaters 5. for his top 7 still breathing death eaters let them join their master and other fallen in death
