Why Luna Lovegood Is The Most Important Character From Harry Potter

Harry Potter has given us some of the most amazing characters that will stand the test of time, it’s such an incredible world and I’m sure that out of the millions of readers who’ve been so devoted to following harry’s story, they can all relate with one character that’s specific to how they feel about themselves. There’s characters that we can all agree played hugely important roles, not just in the storyline, but as a representation of being the best they can be, which influences us all to be the best we can be. The person I’m talking about is Luna Lovegood. Luna, in my own opinion is possibly the most important character from the entire series as she sets such an amazing example of living life as she sees fit and in today’s video I’m going to be highlighting a number of examples and instances that will show why Luna is one of, If not the most important character in the Harry Potter series.

Mark Lumley Why would it be wrong as a teacher to prevent bullying? Isn’t it a teacher’s job to make sure students learn in school and to help make sure there are no obstacles, like bullying, to prevent them from learning. Think of how many kids would be saved each year if their teachers stopped the bullying. Teen Suicide rates are not going down after years of schools saying they will do something about bullying in the wake of the Columbine shootings. Instead of apologizing for protecting your students you should be challenging other teachers to do the same.

The Problem i see is: most Teachers think they have enough work and/or are allready totally desillusionated by their students, so they simply gave up and now smile on Teachers who refuse to do the same. At my School - im German and go to a Gymnasium which is the same as High School if you want to say so - we have a SchulPsychologe, someone who is payed to take care about bulling and stuff. But i remenber that i always went to my Class Teacher or my Schulbegleitung - thats somebody who helps People like Luna in the School so they dont get Problems - so i dont know how much that helps. I also hab my Problems with bulling, but after everbody knew whats special about me, it stopped. Now it starded again because of some new Kids in the Class, but im okay. The Teachers know whats going on and already told them of.

That's a wonderful question. When I was growing up (the 60s - 70s) the concept of being interested in anything but sports made a target of you by everyone in school. I built models of space-themed shows, especially Star Trek, which wasn't very popular until after The Motion Picture came out. Even then, I was picked on for building model rockets... That finally worked! My inspiration came from the character of Scotty (James Doohan) who autographed my homemade model of the Enterprise with the phrase, approved by Scotty, on the primary hull then gave me a huge bear hug. It was the only encouragement I ever got on my love of science, but it was enough to make me strive toward what I loved. I put my skills to good use over the years and it all came from my inspiration of James Doohan and his character of Scotty. Luna Lovegood reminds me of how I was treated at that age and I was happy to see that at least she had a caring father, but was strong enough to endure everything else and maintain her compassion and caring for those around her.

This is why Luna Lovegood is the HP character I most connect to, and am alike. We both are school outcasts, and have our quirks that people don’t like. However, our confidence in ourselves prevents us from feeling bad about it. Luna makes Ravenclaw proud. Neville does that for Gryffindor. Cedric for Hufflepuff and I think Narcissa Malfoy does it for Slytherin. Out of all the Harry Potter characters, I think Neville has shown me that it's okay to be different and to take a bit longer to come into your own. Neville's plot arc is absolutely amazing and the amount of growth he goes through is really astounding. Out of non-Harry Potter characters, I'd probably say Jace Beleren from the Magic the Gathering storyline or Nott the Brave from Critical Role (campaign 2).

I worked at Universal's Studios Hogwart's Express when it first opened. During my interview, they asked me a lot of Harry Potter questions. But, the only one I truly remember was "Who is your favorite Harry Potter character and why?" I said "Luna Lovegood. Because she reminds me of myself. Everyone just thinks she's this quiet, crazy, ditzy blonde (P.S. I have Platinum blonde hair as well), but in reality she's the most self-aware and intelligent character and she sees all things others don't. Physically and emotionally." I got the job. BONUS FACT: While working on the train, all the Harry Potter cast members were there recording promotional spots for the park and other TV shows. I turned around really quickly after opening the gates and nearly plowed right into Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood actress) of all people. Our faces were like 2 inches away from each other. I was fan-girling so hard, but we aren't allowed to stop them and talk. So, I just had to apologize quickly and get back to work.

I'm from the "Woodstock Generation" and Luna is the type of girl I was attracted to when I was younger. None of the other Harry Potter characters reminded me of my school days friends. What character made me feel it’s okay to be different? Honestly. It’s a tough call between Neville and Luna. But I’ll pick Neville, because I relate to him the most compared to all the characters. Where I was bullied endlessly when I was younger, was rather weak. But later developed with skills and inner strength. For me, the character that showed me, that it’s ok to be different is Neville Longbottom. From the first books on, he was not the typical brave griffindor and he himself thought, he wouldn’t fit into the house. But he was a different kind of brave and in a much more meaningful way than plain old „I‘m Griffindor an I fear nothing“. He stood up against his own fears in Moments of importants. To protect, what was valuable to him.

Luna is everything I want in another human. I love this character so much ❤ Edit: in the movie, having luna shout at harry shows her strength and importance to the series because it shows that even though we are happy with how we've shaped ourselves we have to become "werewolf"(thanks joker) to really get our point across. Sirus is the character that taught me that it's okay to be different, especially if you come from a difficult family. My family is very conservative, they are racists, chouvinists, homophobic and things like that. I was always "the bad apple," exactly like Sirius. I ran home because I was not willing to follow those family values. Sirius told me that it's okay to be different even if you have to give up the family in which you were born. I wish JK would give Sirius a happier ending. The life of the Black brothers was so tragic, they they deserved a better ending.

I believe that Luna Lovegood was far from a secondary character. I believe that Luna was a Median - she could hear and speak with the dead, which she calls NARGLES. She is also gifted with extrasensory perception...she knows and sees things other don't or just ignore. That is why she was called Loony, because she is often seeing and listening to someone others couldn't see or hear.

Honestly, I'm sick of haracter telling me it's ok to be different... This message currently became more common even than love story. Although, Luna is different in kind and respecting way. It makes her, in my opinion, better haracter than majority of "dare to be different" characters who are different in arrogant, self-centered way.

Thank you for this video. I was surprised when I took the sorting test to be sorted into Ravenclaw (not that I wanted to be in Griffindor, I just didn't want to be in Slytherin). I've never considered myself to be "normal" but I've never been as odd at Luna. I was impressed with her calm in the books and movies. I always thought Harry Potter’s characters are tiered. 1, Harry, Ron, Hermione 2. Dumbledore, Voldemort 3. Snape, Sirius black, Lupin, Hagrid, Arthur and Molly Weasley 4. Luna, Neville, Fred, George, Malfoy father and son. 5. Various death eaters. 6. Etc.
