When I was in elementary school, the school had MECC educational games. The school didn't have Oregon Trail, though, so I always associate MECC with dancing bears.

Not striking a deal doesn't mean you lose all rights as the copyright holder. The problem is that they did it on goverment propperty on government time/pay. So really, that first school actually owns the game and could've sued the dev for not only deleteing it/ but transfering it without explicite permission.

Great video 👍 I'm glad that the three initial 'devs' have received the recognition they deserve (and some benefits) because the most important thing about their game isn't the money but _how they wrote an educational program that kids actually learnt from!_ There were thousands of educational programs that came & went during OT's rise & proliferation, but clearly these three guys captured lightning-in-a-bottle with the underlying game design. Brilliant! 👌

So let me get this straight,a few teachers went above and beyond to make something nice for the betterment of the country, and rather than encouraging the Devs and striking a more favourable deal, and outright doing a right thing, the gov basically took their program and not only exploited them, but also actively suppressed any involvement of the people who worked on it.

They also helped make spin-offs with different themes 1 prime example that got me interested would be Organ Trail: Director's Cut which is a zombie apocalypse variant of the game.

Thats not how copyright works. it's because it was done on company time/on company hardware and it was government owned. They owe you nothing. Had it been a private business and been worked on outside of work hours, just puttin git on hardware doesn't constitute waiving all legal rights as a copyright holder.

@@OldSchoolDudeGaming Sure but the video says that he made a deal with mecc for porting his game into their system without imposing any condition, he could basically ask for a loyalty for his game and get rich and he didn't because he was naive and nobody thought the impact that his game was going to have later so yes it was his fault for believing that mecc was going to recognize his job after seeing the success of the game.

I actually live in Minnesota (Lakeville) never heard of the game but im only 12 sooo heres some fun facts: Mall of America is the only one in the world and has Nickelodeon universe (which is like a amusement park), they also plan to build a GAGANTIC water park. Minnesota zoo is turning there monorail into a walkway. there was also a great hotel and amusement a park witha train to take you there. its now i beach but it has a sign about its past. it also has VallyFair, i recomend going there if your in Minnesota (for vacation or for family anything really)
