You know what pisses me off? I've met people like Cheryl throughout my life: the kinda people who have nothing in this world material wise but will literally rob themselves to give you their last dollar or grocery. Selfless isn't even strong enough to define people like that but I've been fortunate to have met a LOT of these folks. And yet in this particular case, a scumbag like this takes them away and leaves us with one less shining light in a world of increasingly darker places.
@Rompelstaump Жыл бұрын
Tommy Lee Jones in no country for old men said it best in his recurring dream about his Dad and the darkness. We carry the fire because we know it's right. It's extremely rare and extraordinarily difficult. We carry the fire so that the ones we love know there is a warm place waiting for them through the biting cold and bitter darkness. It's what is expected, but people are rarely capable of seeing the job through. This world has always been an inhospitable, cruel place where it seems that the ruthlessly wicked are all around us. That's our challenge! Be like Cheryl knowing what happens to good people. Courageously kind and perpetually generous. We have a great example disciplined monks, people like Jesus who fight for the weak and hold the strong accountable for abuse of their strength.

Before you start sending hate for my response, I do not condone what he did at all and yes agree he should be punished more harshly than just 20 years, just wanted to open a instinctual/primal door instead of the logical thought process, his flight or fight was likely impaired and he simply went into panic and did both. I also agree he very likely negotiated a reduced sentence for his testimony which... The fact that this foundation does exactly what it’s supposed to be doing just reinforces what I have always known…. This is a good man and a great example. I’m so grateful that a very popular KZbin host is also a seriously fantastic role model. Serving our country and becoming a Seal (which is an incredible accomplishment), then after having enormous success with a KZbin channel that is interesting and often funny, he uses that success to further serve and help others. And it’s a fun channel to watch! I’ve watched since early on and I’ve seen the channel grow. I remember telling my husband when it hit 1 million and being so happy how quickly it happened. I’m just really stoked that such a great human being is so popular on here! We need more role models like this!

I absolutely love that MrBallen does this, it's such an important cause and I love his transparency about the charity. I started following the channel because of his missing 401 videos. It's really nice to see a successful youtuber give back to the people (or families of the people) that he tells stories about. I do find it slightly annoying that most of the podcast material is reused from the yourube channel, but I can imagine that is because they are focusing on behind the scenes aspects such as the MrBallen Foundation. It probably takes up a lot of their time and energy, so completely forgivable.

Hard time believing that he had a plan to "save" her to win her back. He set up a cover story for himself after telling his buddy from jail to kidnap/kill his ex. He'd clearly scoped out who he could blame to try get the police to blame them too, hence why he probably knew about the "stalker". I'd even bet that the reason she was parked so close to the "stalkers" house is to try and pin more blame on it being him.
@osamu_90 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, the plan had always been for his buddy to _kill_ his wife. Detectives said he had allegedly persuaded his ex-wife to take out a $100,000 life insurance policy naming him as the beneficiary, and he was also the prime beneficiary in her will. The "damsel in distress" story was all bullshit.

I agree. And had already been in prison for plotting an ex-gf's husband's murder? This guy was cold-blooded, not clueless.
@kayleigh3648 Жыл бұрын
That actually really makes sense, cuz what struck me as extremely odd is how he just went right back to sleep after realizing he missed his opportunity… A normal person in that situation would go outside and scope the premises, then try calling the guy repeatedly, then driving around to look for them, or going to his house, or maybe even calling the cops, but SOMETHING!!! The way the story is told is that once he realized he slept through the ordeal, he just went right back to bed with no regard as to where Cheryl and the kidnapper were… What did he think was gonna happen?!? Was the guy supposed to hold her overnight, or give her back and try again another time? 🤨 The whole story is very sus

Well, that he was doing up back then to gain a big number of subscribers quickly. I am not saying this a bad thing; actually, the secret to become successful in this platform, besides the quality/content of your videos, is to be constant in the uploading of your videos such that if you post videos quite often, your number of followers will grow fast. Once you have a good number of subscribers, you can relax a little and stop posting videos so often (which also makes sense since posting new material is a lot of work too) so that's the case of this guy, he's got already 8 million subscribers so there is no need to be so crazy posting videos 3, 4 or 5 times a week as he used to do when he started.
