The rights to The Silmarillion have never been sold to anyone. Thus far, the Tolkien estate will not part with it. While if done correctly, it would be amazing, this is not the time or place for it. I literally saw a female Chinese elf in ROP in the Battle of Eregion! The black elf Arondir wasn't enough diversity in Elf kind. So yea. It would be destroyed by identity politics and an overt social agenda that trumps story and faithfulness to the original material every time. Maybe someday that will change.

It is unfortunate that Tolkien later said there were probably not more than 7 balrogs. Two fell at Gondolin. It is not said how many Valar and Maiar came, aside from Eonwe. I am thinking Tulkas would definitely have come. Eonwe was the mightiest in arms of the Maiar should be greater than any of the balrogs and Tulkas should easily crush a balrog. The greatest of the high elves presumably cannot defeat a balrog but a few of them together could probably keep one at bay. If a few other Maiar came with Eonwe, then the five remaining balrogs of 7 plus Sauron should not have been able to withstand the host of the west for thirty years. I am thinking there should have been more than 5, though not hundreds. Once the bulk of them were destroyed, the remaining would have seen the war was lost. I imagine the nature of the battles/war is that the high elves could easily defeat any force of men or orc, work as a team on the trolls, or if a weather magic was available, bring out the sunlight negating the trolls. The greatest elves could keep excess balrogs at bay, while Eonwe and Tulkas broke the strength of the balrogs. Both of them could probably withstand the winged dragons, but not the others, hence withdrew in good order. One of the dragon's powers is the ability to mesmerize, though probably not against Maiar. Earendil wearing the Silmaril had proof against this power of the dragon and Ancalagon was probably mesmerized by it

Are JRR Tolkiens initial Books of Middle Earth protected? Because The Melkor age needs to be brought to the Cinematic Universe, its an absolute Bad Ass story line, From Eru and the Valar (14 Ainur) to Melkor defying Eru and eventually becoming Morgoth, to Sauron becoming his Successor, I just cant believe no one has ever thought of Bringing this to light, unless Tolkien has this part of his Middle Earth Books protected then that would make sense, However, if there is one Director that can do it, it Absolutely has to be Peter Jackson, his experience, prowess and knowledge of Tolkien Books is unmatched, The Melkor age would be action packed, Dark and thrilling to the Audience, I absolutely Love The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, an absolute stand alone master piece, but if this Story Line was to be made a Cinematic Project, Oh My God! It would have the potential to be just as good or even Better than LOTR trilogy which has stood the test of time Im getting Goosebumps just thinking about it 😂 Please MR JACKSON 🙏🏽 make this HAPPEN!

I believe the reason Rings of Power deviates so much from the source text is because they don't have the rights to the Silmarillion. So unfortunately I don't think they'd be able to depict the story of Morgoth. It would be amazing I agree.

Some poetic license here. The Valar were never driven back by Morgoth's forces, they were utterly victorious. You make it sound like Earendil saved Manwe, Orome, and all the rest of the Valar, Maia, when Earendil was just one among all the Host of the West who wrecked Morgoth and his armies.
@FairlyFictional

Hi, thanks for the comment. It is not actually specified that any specific Valar took part in the war. It is stated that elven forces of Ingwe and the Noldor, led by Finarfin, alongside Men who "fought upon the part of the Valar". Only Eonwe, who is a Maiar herald of Manwe is mentioned as going to the War, and it is not stated that he fought. Also regarding Ancalagon, it is written: "and so sudden and ruinous was the onset of that dreadful fleet that the host of the Valar was driven back, for the coming of the dragons was with great thunder, and lightning, and a tempest of fire." "Before the rising of the sun, Earendil slew Ancalagon the Black, the mightiest of the dragon-host, and cast him from the sky; and he fell upon the towers of Thangorodrim, and they were broken in his ruin. Then the sun rose, and the host of the Valar prevailed, and well-nigh all the dragons were destroyed."

Morgoth was defeated but not destroyed. He is still around somewhere. His return was a great threat to Sauron . Sauron was CONSTANTLY worried of his return. He wanted to defeat Morgoth and be the ruler of the world. Sauron asked for people to serve him and destroy those who refused him. Such a pitiful way to ask for help in dealing with Morgoth. Sadly it was the wrong way to approach people too.

Sauron was more like Lucifer who at the beginning thought that he would bring better order to the world than God, under his rule Morgoth was a bit different, while a bit like what Satan was after his fall Morgoth in the beginning wanted to create like the other Valar, to be revered and worshipped, all while having agency in creation and to rule But when he manifested in Arda in physical form, he appeared as the Dark Lord Morgoth And his power can only corrupt and ruin, leading to the creation of fell monsters like the Orcs He began to realize that was all what he was created for, that he has no real place in creation like The other Valar So he spitefully sought to destroy Eru Alluvatar’s creation, for the sake of destroying all life and make it ruin For Morgoth like Satan after his fall, knew his story was broken that his fate is all there is, to be creation’s villian. Despite kmoring all that, he kept fighting anyway, he created monsters split his own power to empower them, and no real plan besides spiteful destruction and ruin, to erase light from Arda. Sauron had more of a plan. He followed Morgoth out of Loyalty and may have thought his master can help fulfill his goals Sauron didn’t want to destroy creation, he was at heart a builder, and saw creation through the eyes of a builder, and saw flaws. He saw creation under the Valar was flawed, especially how free will and the separation of races, would cause conflict and turmoil If Men, Dwarves, and Elves didn’t have a common enemy in Orcs and Dark Lords, they’ll be fighting eachother Sauron at the start didn’t want to conquer the world through destruction. He sought using the Rings of Power to bind free will of the leaders of the races, to his control and control the world through them, creation a new order that’s efficient under his rule The failure of the Rings controlling Dwarves, and Elves, fell apart the plan, and Sauron had to turn to conquest to do it. And later lost his physical form to intervene, when he lost the One Ring (in movies not books as he simply retreated ) Morgoth was like a mad dog lashing out until the Valar can’t ignore him and intervened to cause his fall But at the start of it, Morgoth simply wanted to have a part of creation, to rule yes, but also create and have agency in creation which wasn’t in the cards for him. As if he was truly created to become the first Dark Lord

@@FairlyFictional I suppose Sauron, he may never defeat the Valar, but his cunning is more dangerous than his raw power. In truth he would have at least won Middle Earth if he hadn’t either lost his Ring, or got it back before the end. Even separated from the Ring, and at least in movie version was unable to interact physically. He still plots and schemes, and manipulates so many others foe and pawn alike. The fall of Numenor alone highlights his threat. Despite having at the height of his godlike power with the One Ring, he surrendered to Numenor. Morgoth would have tried to destroy the city with armies and may have lost with Numenor’s might. But Sauron didn’t use magic or armies against them, he allowed himself to be taken prisoner and used the pride of the Numenorians to win them over. Going from prisoner, to adviser of the High King, and began to make the Numenorians not only worship himself but fallen Morgoth. Such a fall was such a threat, the Valar had to break their vow of noninterference and make Numenor sink. As flawed at the Rings of Power series was, the one thing they did right was Sauron’s portrayal He allowed himself to be thought of as a lowly man, to be taken prisoner, to be beaten up, endure failure, yet patiently took it in, and played his role until the end. That’s Sauron, who would have conquered the world with his patience and cunning, with magic as a supplement to his title as Lord of the Rings, and successor of Morgoth as the Dark Lord.

My LOTR lore is a bit rusty, but isnt there a rumor or hint that Morgoth might have escaped the void through Sauron when the two beings. ''according to the hint/rumor'' emerged and became one? But then again there is also the rumor that Sauron isnt Sauron at all anymore, and that he is possessed by the spirit or Morgoth who thus lives through him? Or is that only a fan theory?
