I would argue she planned Halo's demise without knowing it. She said she wanted "to do things differently". If you think about, differently from what? It appears she is saying she wants to do things differently than how Bungie successfully did it. She tried to reinvent the wheel. I would say that is the result of her efforts regardless. Bungie had a golden goose laying Halo games. Well she wasn't happy with that and changed it. Now we have purposefully "not like Bungie" attempts at Halo games after Halo 3. Arguably, Halo becoming mediocre and no longer a serious flagship was the planned outcome... In other words, she took over Michael Jordan's Bulls after a few Championship Wins and says "I wanna do things differently". I would ask anyone who knows about her ideas and thought that was a good idea... If it were me, I would of replicated what Bungie had done first and then going through feedback from fans, bring them what the fans wanted which would of been, just more. More continued story for each game with small gameplay/graphical updates to polish the game. That was all they had to do, but no. "I wanna be George Lucas". She is a bad name for women in the workforce. The lady who was the art director for Project Gotham and Fable is boss though, she is cool.

@@bmanrrrrr She had the same mindset as Kathleen Kennedy when it came to Star Wars. They both had the arrogance to think they could do things better than the original creators, and they both wanted to make the franchises "their own". This isn't to say that Bonnie didn't have good intentions, I'm sure she _thought_ she was doing the right thing, but ultimately she FAFO'd with the old adage "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Both Bonnie and Kathleen had a golden goose, and both of them managed to turn them in to unparalleled failure drowning in losses.

I remember way back in the day when 343 was announced as the team inheriting the franchise, everyone was so optimistic because of how closely they worked with Bungie and how they'd be carrying the torch without us even noticing. Crazy to see how misguided that was in retrospect.

They did work with Bungie on Halo Reach, but for Halo 4 they doubled down on the stuff people _didn't_ like about Reach and also made additions of their own to make it less like Halo and more like Call of Duty in the name of being "mainstream". To this day Halo 4 is my least favorite game in the series for it, even beneath Halo 5 for me because at least 5's multiplayer tried to return to how previous Halo games handled arena shooters. I actually kind of like 5's multiplayer when I can find a match.

Absolutely with you Luke. The direction she took Halo down definitely wouldn't have been my first choice. It felt like missteps with every release, which is such a shame because Halo is such a special franchise to a lot of people, myself included. Thanks for the comment!

Great video brother ! 19 minutes went by fast. Its super cool seeing the different positions that are replaced by other people and their ability to still try and create consistency with the franchise, win or fail. That imo is one of the craziest things as far as studio dynamics go. Btw Forward Unto Dawn is my favorite live action Halo video. Way better than the current show

You're right, the show definitely has some rough edges. I don't understand why hollywood wants to make content without caring about the source material, but who knows maybe it'll get better in the future. Let's hope!

It still confuses me to this day that 343 changed Halo 4 so much in the name of making it "more mainstream", given that when they took over from Bungie and started on Halo 4, Halo was like the most mainstream franchise imaginable. That would be like if a new studio acquired the MCU in 2016 and completely changed the entire formula and franchise to "appeal to a wide audience" like bruh...

The Bungie Microsoft split ended so badly. Bungie partnered up with Activision that ended up causing many critical employees to leave. 343 Industries got a hold of Halo pretty much dooming the franchise.

I really don't like 343 Industries but I admit they have done some things right. I really do like haloMCC despite all the bugs it once had, HaloCEA was actually really cool swapping between old and new graphics was genious l, I liked the story for halo 4 and I felt like spartan ops was underrated. Halo wars 2 campaign was awesome, Jerome and Spartan red were awesome, Jerome's chemistry with Isabel was familiar and teased a potentiel future halo protaganist

Microsoft should have listened to Bonnie when she wanted release Halo 4 on the Xbox One. That way the One would have launched with the next Halo upon its release which would have really helped the console's sales and H4 would have had an extra 3 years development time which would have been great.

I kinda get the approach now that you've laid it out for us. She obviously had a hook, but copy/pasting the George Lucas playbook isn't a guarantee for success. It works for other multi-media properties like Harry Potter, but neither that nor Lucas's properties started out as video games. Bonnie may have had a vision to be the first one to successfully "George Lucas" a video game franchise, but they kinda forgot that video games aren't linear entertainment. You need to reaaaaaaaaally listen to your audience and keep showing up after you ship.

As bad as Halo 5 was (Campaign Especially) the multiplayer ended up in a really good state, the same cannot be said about infinite. It kinda went the opposite way, started strong but then it was just crickets.

Hahaha. There are too many funny failures by 343... you will not believe this. Close to the end of the video, 343 says "Bungie's old tools is to blame for our failures, we must use a new engine". The new engine comes out and is revealed in Halo Infinite. Then the fans say the new graphics suck. Could the results have been any worse. This is hilariously bad how much of a failure these people are.

It is very simple. The people who managed Halo after Bungie were wrong. In almost every decision they made. Another huge mistake was firing the team who made the Halo Wars games. Halo Wars, though not tradional Halo was successful. Just squeeze profits out of a team and then redistribute them somewhere else. Imagine the people leaving the project of Halo 4 or Guardians? Who in there right mind would abandon the right to put a Halo game on their resumé, that is gold, but behind the scenes, the games must of been so trash they saw leaving Halo as a gift.

Did you even mention how 343's moderators blocked/banned people on the forums criticizing them since Halo 4 whether they were constructive or toxic? MCC was never ever fixed, Halo 5's delayed content plus the removal of splitscreen, 3 missions only for Chief, the delay of content once again for Infinite but an even longer wait, failed to deliver on the promise of splitscreen being in the campaign, how having people that hated Halo hurt the series, collaboration with KZbinrs that cater to normies to promote this game plus the microtransactions? And the first big mistake they made was the Reach Title Update. NOBODY ASKED FOR THAT. Get your info right before you release a video man

It’s more Halo than 4, 5, and is the original vision of Bungie with an open world that is mysterious. Also 2/3 of it was cut cause of time running out much like Halo 2. I don’t understand how many people think infinites campaign is bad that clearly have 0 idea what Bungies vision was for Halo. Halo only became linear Halo 2 and 3 because Microsoft wanted the games do bungie just pushed them out, in a way. CE is a good representation of what the wanted including the original Mac world reveal.

Some of your facts are kinda… twisted or flat out wrong. For example, the Halo bible is not a 343 thing. And the encyclopedia is not the Bible. It’s just a book. Bible is an internal document from bungie which you can find online. Basically a guideline for how to build the game, which I assume Microsoft ignored. Bonnie Ross never compared herself to George Lucas. Lee did not step down, he was fired for destroying Halo. Halo infinite at the beginning of dev was an overwatch style game. On top of engine issue this would lead to the massive length to build the game. With 2/3 of campaign being shelved. I can appreciate a good story and a good retrospective video but please understand what is actually going on otherwise you just feed into the existing halo division. Also you could have talked to several bungie devs. They’re very active in discords and respond to messages. Including Marty.
