The Internet has killed video games

I feel like you're working backwards from your conclusion. I looked around online, and I couldn't find anyone making the claim that Alan Wake II was better on PC than on PS5. That was just the only game I played that you were claiming was considered better on PC, so I didn't check on the others. I can't understand for the life of me why you would say that fantastic games like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West somehow don't count. Just because there's a PS4 version available for them? Okay. I guess that somehow makes the games so you can't play them on your PS5? The PS5 versions of the games are still better. These are two of the greatest games that have ever been made, and are both far better than anything from the 2007 era you compare this to, and you just find a reason to say they don't count? If I went and found nitpicky reasons not to include all the best games from previous generations, those generations would also suck. PC gamers are always going to claim that every game is better on PC, while crying on message boards about how buggy and terrible the game is on PC. That's a tale as old as PC gaming forums. I care not at all about a console start screen. That's just something boring I have to look at before I get to my games. I'm not sure why you would get all nostalgic over that. I guess it was kind of exciting when I was a small child, but I haven't cared about that in a long long time, if I ever really did. I mostly remember being frustrated at having to wait through that screen to get to my gaming. In fact, I seem to remember getting a game shark for PS1, just because it let you skip that intro screen. As far as the installs, if you have good internet speed it's only going to take 15 minutes or so to download most games. An hour if the Internet is running kind of slow. 90 GB game, 1 Gb/second Internet speed = 12 minute download. I get that not everybody has good internet, though, so I could see why that could be a problem. But that's just the reality of gaming. Games have gotten bigger and better, and with that size comes the requirement to install the game on the system. You won't be able to run a game off of a disc anymore because it's very slow to read information off of a disc. The system has to be able to access that information faster than a physical disc will allow, or you're going to be looking at very long and very frequent loading times. There is no getting around that. You may as well be complaining that if you let go of your controller it will fall to the ground. Gravity isn't going to stop because you complain about it, and no game company is going to come up with a fix to get rid of that pesky gravity for you. It's not like you're going to be able to play the game quicker if you buy it on PC. That's one of the problems with PC gaming. You have to do installs, and settings tweaks, and driver updates, and often look online to see if anybody knows why your game isn't working. That's the biggest reason I don't like PC gaming, is because it could take a week to get your game working on a PC. So it might take an hour or two on your console if you don't have good Internet? Okay. And your complaint is what again? That big complex beautiful games take longer to install? Would you prefer to go back to 2007 graphics, to get rid of those install times? If I'm really excited about a game I'll have pre-ordered it, and you can typically download and install it several days before it launches, so you can start playing it the second it launches. I've frankly stopped buying physical copies, because digital copies are a better value and are far more convenient. I acknowledge that there are some potential problems with digital over physical games, but as of now the advantages have far outweighed the disadvantages for me. I have hundreds and hundreds of games on my PS5, and I don't have to clutter up my house with boxes and boxes of...well... boxes. And I no longer have that problem with opening a box wanting to play a game and finding the wrong game in the box, and then having to go on a hunt through every game box I own putting the games back where they belong until I get back to the game I'm looking for. But updates? First, there are very few 200 GB updates. Most updates are 2-6 GB. You'll occasionally get something up in the 50 GB range, but that's really rare. But why are you waiting to update your games until you want to play them? My Playstation automatically updates all of my games at night while I'm asleep, or in the background while I'm playing other games. You do realize it has that setting, right? I have literally never had to wait to play a game because it needed an update. I never realize a game even needs an update until it's already downloaded and ready to install. And even that, only when there's an update for the game I'm playing right then. And even then, only when I'm done playing. Most of the time, it is installed and I just get a notification telling me there was an update. Most of the time, I don't even notice the update. My PS5 also came with a microphone. It was a little headset with earbuds and a microphone built into the cord. It worked surprisingly well, although I did eventually replace it with a better set of headphones because I don't like earbuds. Are you sure you didn't just accidentally throw out your microphone? It was pretty compact. I have 2 PS5s and they both came with microphones. Maybe newer consoles don't have microphones? Maybe they didn't include them in Canada? I don't know, but I got them. I'm not much of an online gamer, but I've spent more time using the in game chat on PS5 than I ever did on any older consoles, by a very wide margin. The ability to just turn on and off your microphone with a button press on the controller makes those features usable. On older generations, if somebody was using a microphone, you could hear everything that was going on in their house. You could barely hear the game you were playing for all the moms and girlfriends in the background yelling about how you should quit playing that stupid game and do something worthwhile with your time. But admittedly I'm not the best person to chime in on that, because I don't really play games for the online community. I prefer to be in the same room with the people I'm gaming with. Hence the 2 PS5s, which I can use both at the same time with a single game with the digital games. Hence the digital games being better value than physical games. I will give you that a couple of really great studios have [_] the bed in their pursuit of the live service model. Ubisoft is basically gone, and WB is circling the drain. That's unfortunate. But let's face it, Ubisoft had a lot of problems already with their formulaic gameplay and 10 billion trash collectibles in every game. But other companies always rise to replace companies that fall because of their boneheaded decisions. Insomniac's Spider-Man series has been comparable to the Arkham games in quality. Ghost of Tsushima has been superior to Assassin's Creed in almost every way. Honestly, in my opinion, if there's one thing that has caused a problem with this generation of console, preventing the kind of reactions you saw with those older consoles, it was the scalper fiasco with the console launch. Scalpers prevented people from getting the consoles and having those great reactions. They made it more difficult and more expensive, and made it so far more people just had to wait until the excitement over the consoles had died down before they could ever get their hands on a PS5. They also made it so that companies had to keep developing their games for the older generation, because there weren't enough consoles in the hands of actual gamers to support game launches for years, because people had millions of PS5s collecting dust in their basements where nobody could buy games for them. They really have to do a better job of controlling scalpers on the next console launch. Overall, I just think this is nostalgia speaking, and you're looking at those old games through rose colored glasses. In my opinion, gaming has just gotten better over the years. If I were somehow transported back 20 years into the past, it would suck having to wait for games to get good again.

I had the ultimate game pass on my Xbox but I was overwhelmed with all the games to play and I would just play a game for a minute and never touch it again. The only games that I ever fully beaten was firewatch and Lego Star Wars. I feel like making games like Netflix ruins the experience.
