Admired her for what? I sympathize with her but she really created most of the messes she got herself into. I donrt know whether she was in on the murder of Darnley, but she chose to have an affair with Bothwell and get pregnant; she chose to marry Farley when she was advised not to, she did whatever with David Rizzo... Mary would have done much better for herself, her child, and her country if she had thought with her head instead of her heart, or her hormones.
@berenlevia8486 Жыл бұрын
@@suekelley2109 Mary of Scots even though a distant cousin , was a foolish woman and died due to her bad decision making . The 1st mistake was Mary's mother sending Mary to France , she grew up estranged from the Scottish nobels and people,; her aquired French arrogance in dealing with the Scottish nobles made things worse What put the nail in the coffin , so to speak was her disastrous marriage to Lennox, and affair with Bothwell - neither of them thought well of by the Scottish nobles .

@@historyslifestories373 an examination of Lennox's skeletal remains a few years ago shows that at the time of his death , he had contracted syphilis due to his many affairs , and he was fully symptomatic with the disease. There is never enough attention given to Mary's imprisonment in Sheffield - the longest place of her incarceration - at both Sheffield Castle and Sheffield Manor Lodge. She spent more than 14 years in Sheffield. Why do historians constantly overlook this fact? Some of the best letters written by Mary, and some of her finest examples of embroidery were stitched by her during her time in Sheffield. She also was allowed to ride and go deer hunting, under guard of course, through the adjoining deer park near Sheffield Manor Lodge.

my great grandfather x12 was Sir James Balfour of Pittendriech and was one one of Mary's secretary's/advisors. It seems treachery and murder was one of his great skills for he was implicated in the assasination of Lord Darnley and assisted Bothwell to intercept and 'kidnap' and marry Mary. How Balfour kept his head on his shoulders while many lost theirs is nothing short of a mystery to me. Despite excelling in murder and treachery, he went on to be significantly involved in the writings of Scots Law

Hi, Mary was held and executed at Fotheringhay castle - about 90 miles or so away. Not a massive distance but far enough and would still take a number of days to travel. At the end of the day, history correctly (in my opinion) records that Elizabeth had Mary executed no matter what Elizabeth’s subsequent actions were - she signed the death warrant - she didn’t have to. Elizabeth may have been pressured by those around her, but, she was after all queen - and well known for being quite a forceful one at that.

It’s all down to conjecture and which side of the story you choose to believe. I tend to, as a born and bred Scot, believe Mary’s side. And, as for all of you saying she was this, that and the other, Elizabeth was, by far, no angel either and she was threatened by Mary’s right to the throne. So… “Off with her head!” and off it came.

I think about her imprisoned. I imagine her imagining her life back in France. Her life with her first husband. And she was the queen of fashion! Nobody could touch or hurt her. How many people promised to protect her? It seems so strange that somebody can have so much. And then nothing... I can imagine Mary wishing that she was back in France when she was young and pretty. Maybe in her fantasies Mary Stuart even wished that she was back to that little island when she was a little girl before she went to France. She could just be there with her Mary's.
