Sadly, I watched the first one and still didn't know a lot of answers. Having said that, I am protesting the word cembre as a correct answer. Being curious, I looked it up and found that yes, Cembre is a company that makes those types of fittings. They are called AR260D OR AR280 Rail web cable connection system. Probably other companies make them also. It's just a crimp on terminal fitting. It's similar to people calling any locking pliers a "vise-grip".

I'm realizing that it was a poor question. We just call them cembre connections in the industry. Sorry of a Kleenex situation. Lol

@CAPFlyer2 жыл бұрын
When I watched the first one and he said that, I was totally confused because at my little short line, we didn't use any AR260s or 280s. We just used exothermic connectors for both the head and web connections. Then again, we also had pretty bad theft issues in a couple sections of the line, so using less expensive and easier to replace thermite connectors was probably keeping our costs under control better too.
@Hyce7772 жыл бұрын
@@CAPFlyer oh yeah, exothermic welding or CAD welding is also really common. With us being an electrified railroad we use all cembre for the reliability sake.

Back in the day gram worked for BNSF out of St.Paul Minnesota. She was a rail line manager at the rail car hub, gravity car sorter in simple terms. We got two trips every year to the West coast on AmTrack. Talk about a fantastic time, and wonderfull views. Winter was the best time, as we might find our selfs "stranded" from snow fall or slids. The best view was from the power head "engine" in the plush air ride seats. The last trip I took was in 1988 when she retired. Thanks for the shows and the time to make them Hyce.

The Signal Bungalow story; When the first Signal man was using the Signal Control tower the train crews would tease him about his Signal Bungalow (because the first signal control tower was literally in the foot print of the standard American Bungalow) one day a business executive of the Railroad happen to hear this Jabbing of the Signal man and the term stuck for the railroad (cause marketing!) and spread to the other railroads. This term is believed to originate in the western Railroads and stays with the western Railroads.

@Dallen92 жыл бұрын
@@IndustrialParrot2816 I read this in one of the many books on American Railroading that exists. and they state that the proper term is Signal control tower however as these railroaders commit to the term it makes me think that either they can't help themselves perpetuating the joke or that they think this is the proper term.
