12:15 i immediately knew Leighton was BSing cuz i know exactly what it is: you light coal under a rail before joining it so you can expand the short cut rail because summer heat cause thing to go spaghetti noodle bending. after it expands enough, you quickly get the welder and do fast. in canada (i learned it from a railroading documentary about CP and CN) its called a Fire Snake. im not sure for US and UK rail. tbh that could straight up be another slang term used by random people on a random RR cuz reasons Edit: what i described is the process done before the head baking lol

Deadwood is also a wood firing term. You want to avoid throwing dead wood into the box since it will kill your fire. Typically is green or otherwise wet wood. The other end of the spectrum is atomic wood which burns forever, though the latter is probably not a 1800s term I am not sure how far any of those terms go back.

Brett's vaguely northern English accent is actually pretty decent, though I couldn't say where it's closest to. All I can say for certain is that being from Yorkshire myself, the accent he did felt to me like "less of an accent" than their normal speech or any of their other UK accents, so it seems likely he got within 50 miles or so of me.
