It's the default display I believe. When the 313's were first introduced on Southern, the screens did not exist. When they put them in (of which many quite funny teething issues followed what a surprise) - this message was shown first. Then station names on the screens came, then they got automated announcements working (which often jammed or failed).
@underc51803 жыл бұрын
@@CBeaumontHIGTFY That's interesting information. I wonder though, why don't they just turn them off? I'm assuming that if they could they probably would be off, but still
@CBeaumontHIGTFY3 жыл бұрын
@@underc5180 I think they are wired in to operate when the train is "ready for service", in other words when the trains interior lights are on, 3rd rail is detected and either white cab lights and driver present or both ends are red lights. Thinking back, when they were first installed, the message on initial services may have been "Welcome aboard this service", so the Southern bit must have been added later. When announcements started, it was "Welcome aboard the Southern service to "destination"" (triggered on door release). Stopping patterns and next station came quite some time later if memory serves. Alas I've not been able to use the train for a long time now due to the virus, indeed the only times I did use the train in 2020 (to get to hospital appts) - I ended up on the GWR on one time, the other times all 377. So, my point is that things have probably changed again whilst traffic is light.

I am still having to go to London every so often for work, I was approached by a woman in January outside a test centre and she said they were offering the LFT to anyone without symptoms. It didn't occur to me until afterwards that if the test came back positive, I'd be stuck without a way home! I think the LFT are not as accurate which may be why the text message is worded the way it is.
@hammerth14213 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the accuracy of a test is dependent on the incidence of what you're testing for. At low incidences, LFT is just barely better than a coin toss. It improves vastly if you do two tests per person but that means that you can only test half as many people.

Great to see you safely out and about. I completed a similar test at home back in September by invitation of NHS arranged by courier in both directions. As you found, the self administered swab takes less than 5 minutes. However, the assembly of the flat pack box containing the sealed swab for return courier collection took the best part of an hour. Fortunately many of us have a lot of time on our hands these days. Cheers.
