When I saw Sally May in Episode 5 I wasn't surprised by the inclusion of a Transgender character because Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss has a lot of LGBTQ characters like the Hotel group except Niffty who was the only straight character of the main cast in the Pilot.

I love how while everyone has so much trauma and baggage, Millie is just a baddass with zero trauma. All her issues are more normal and less heavy and she's just that awesome. Yeah I think that what is awesome about the trans characters. We know they are trans by looking at their horns and hair but they are just treated as normal everyday imps. No one comments their sexuality or questions their gender. They are just more character for the story or to be in the background. They are just there living their everyday life.

I was talking to a friend about trans people in the hellaverse and passing. In a world without transphobia, if I could be seen as my gender and be marked as trans without taking away from my gender or safety, I would love to be like that. Unfortunately, if I get clocked I am guaranteed consistent harassment, but if it wasn't for that I would be more okay with being identifiable as trans.

So ye, I love seeing so many different representations and not only enjoying them, but examining them like you do in this video. It’s not cringe to make your own personas based on shows, fandoms, or specific creatures because it’s how we further learn and explore our inner selves, as said in the video. I'm no champion of LGBTQ+ (in fact I seem to easily forget about the + in anagram for whatever reason), but I feel the media repetition in recent years tends to be more pandery if anything. But this short did something that felt right. To me the secret was that they never said anything about Sally May being trans but just focused on her being just a normal person (or as normal as you can get in this kind of show).

@@lostboy960 If you aren't trans/nonbinary yourself it's easy to miss! The stem "ism" roughly means "doctrine" or a set of beliefs taught unto others. When used behind the term "transgender" it's to turn the phrase away from an identity, to an ideology. This is then used to demonize trans people and often is tied to the rhetoric that people are "pushing this ideology onto kids". Hopefully this is helpful to you or anyone curious about why trans people or their allies are so adverse to the usage of that term! Thank you for reading my yapping 😅

Damn, having shorts while waiting for new episodes is a genius idea. I'm happy they allowed Millie to shine on her own and give space to Sallie May (plus, we once again saw Wally Wackford with a new job ha ha ha). The different life styles Millie and Sallie live is an interesting subject, considering how different the Pride and Wrath Ring are, plus, it was nice to see more of Imp City. It could be cool a video about the cities of the Hellaverse, considering the big variety, or maybe one about the distinct characteristics between the different Rings of Hell. I would love to see a short about Bee-Lzebub and Vortex to also see more of Gluttony, or maybe about Mammon ... or, who knows, the Glam Sisters? Verosika? Ms Mayberry or Martha and her family? Maybe these shorts could also anticipate the remaining Sins.

I love that you mentioned how much the Hellaverse has struck a chord with the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole. I came out as nonbinary and bisexual late last year, which is around the same time that I got invested in Vivziepop's work. The chaotically queer cast of Helluva Boss was an immediate hit for me and it drew me in. With Hazbin Hotel now being an Amazon property, I sincerely hope that more creatives and show writers can follow Viv's example when it comes to representation 🏳‍🌈

Helluva Boss & Hazbin Hotel have some of the best representation in media I've personally ever seen. Characters with particular characteristics so far haven't been one-note like so much other media, and while those quirks seem to affect how they act and how they interact with others, it's never the only thing they've got going on, and most of the time it's hardly even the most interesting part of their story. Blitzo is bisexual. Probably even outright gay, and has a will-they/won't-they going on with Stolas for ages, now. But the more interesting part of their relationship is their shared trait of feeling like an outsider to their loved ones. Blitz0 is an 'outsider' to those he cares about due to his failed relationships in the past, his adoptive daughter's ambivalence and stand-off-ishness, and Moxxie & Millie's close and defensive coupling. Meanwhile, Stolas is an outsider to his own relationships with his abusive wife he never loved and a daughter who grew coldly towards both her parents after growing up in an unstable household, plus the hints and background that Stolas may not be welcome amongst the Hellish aristocracy. That shared experience and chance encounter is why they connected. In almost any other media I've seen, the same relationship amounts to 'we're both gay so we obviously hooked up', as if someone can only possess one personality trait at a time. Seeing the show handle the difficulties of trans representation in the same, quality manner as other people is a delightful treat, and I do hope we get to see more of Sal/Sally in the coming season.

Side note with the "sinner-sona" when looking at husk he hates cats yet he appears as a cat so they also show things that you dont like or fear. For instance if your scared of water you could be a fish demon or made of water. When making a non hell born sinner-sona its a true represention of what makes you you. All your fears flaws and perfections working together to make a beautiful design that fully shows who *you* are. Its beautiful when looked at this way.

I absolutely love Sallie Maes character and design. They do not make it obvious that she is trans but also do not hide it. She still has her birth horns, you see her roots and in the pin-up merch it was also visible. And I love that. Trans characters usually are pushed into stereotypes (e.g making trans women extremely hyper feminine and trans men hyper masculine) as some writers (who are not trans) imagine that all trans people want to look 200% like their true gender, instead of seeing the HUGE grey area trans folks have when it comes to expressing themselves. As a trans person myself I'm so happy about the casual representation in Hazbin and Helluva. They're there, they're living their life. They're neither the butt of the joke (and if there's a joke based on their sexuality/identity it doesn't stand out as everyone gets made fun of) nor terribly mishandled. They're *realistic*, imperfect and not idolized. And this is why I love these two shows and why they're so comforting. You just know that this setting is open to have queer people integrated into society without having people constantly trying to take away their rights or harassing/trying to correct them like it's happening IRL every day for many queer people. Also this is why I loved the short. They could've went the "easy" route and making it about Sallie Maes gender identity (or struggles regarding to it, if she has any) but nope. They actually wrote a compelling short story about two sisters reconnecting despite their differences in life styles ("city" girl vs. country girl).

It was a very cute short, was happy to see Millie and her side of things got shed some light on. Hope Sally appears in further episodes and gets more outfits or raather i hope we get more costume changes for some characters we dont usually hang out with. I still find the outfit Moxxie wears in the wrath episode very nice and cute for example. Wanna see the same for Millie more. :p

There was a piece of merchandise (I think it was a button?) of Sallie May in a bikini. Originally there wasn't going to be a bulge (implying that she either tucks or got surgery done) but her VA requested that she has a bulge because not every trans woman tucks.

This is the kind of representation that I absolutely love. Sally May(I think that's how it's spelled) isn't a trans character, she's a character who happens to be trans. She has depth, emotion, and a real place in the story both on screen and off. It's not like other pieces of media where they have to whack you over the head with a pride flag to make sure you know "HEY, THIS CHARACTER IS LGBT! LOOK AT THIS! HEY! LOOK! HEY!" It's natural, and I love it.

I have an idea for a Hazbin Overlord OC. His name is Bazar. The gaming demon. (He/Him, Straight Ally(He's evil, but not heartless)) He died in 1980 something and worked for the fictional video game company Irata. His design is very simple. He looks like a retro game character. And moves like those NPC's from Fix it Felix. He is a powerful mind controller. Vox tried to recruit him out of fear, but he realized he was capable of so much more on his own. His minions look and move like space invaders. People can't understand what he says. So he has to mind control someone and talk through them. He doesn't really have evil ambitions. He just wants to mess around with people.

It felt so amazing that, after actually finding out I'm trans, I get to see this short come out and watch Sally in it and go "This is me and my best friend..." Especially because, even though Sally IS a girl, she doesn't ONLY adhere to feminine traits. Which doesn't invalidate her identity, but it does make it clear that there is no ONE way to be a specific gender. She still does hard farm work and she still likes roughhousing. Just a girl being a girl! I loved this!
