When I was young in North Central Ohio every Friday night we watched a show called Chiller Theater and Ghoulardi , They played old horror movies and would play this song during intermission. We loved it and jumped and danced around until our mom told us to quiet down. 🤪 Ghoulardi was a beatnik looking guy who would blow up things with firecrackers. He blew up a live animal one night and was suspended. We kids all could not wait for Friday nights. Good old days. 🙃😎🔥👍🤪🤴

Trashmen great Midwest garage band from early 60's. Good versions of Herietta, Rumble, Ubangi stomp, king of the surf. Just a classic representation of the non top 40 songs from that time. Now also go look up the rivington's "papa oom mow mow" and "the birds the word" to find out where this song came from

I think it's an important and very original song. I can see later 60s bands influenced by the energy and general psychotic-ness of it. And it also has that "Garage Band" vibe and even Punk Rock vibes. Amazing how rock music progressed in such an amazing fashion.

In 1963 Surfin Bird was #3 on the Pop charts . I wore my 45 copy out and had to replace it. I still have it and play it from time to time. This song was like freedom from the some old same old of 1963 boring crap, and we NEEDED IT SO BAD !. Still totally outargues even today as well. Keep in mind this was a year BEFORE the Beatles ! We had NOTHING back then and this was a breath of fresh air. and yes even in 1963 you had to love it or hate it.
