Postscript: The position-swapping strategy was banned for infielders at the same time they got rid of the shift, but is still legal in the outfield.
@brettvandekerckhove22992 ай бұрын
I don’t see why you couldn’t still do it
@gordonwhitney60522 ай бұрын
@@brettvandekerckhove2299 The anti-shift rules that were put in for 2023 require not only that two infielders be on each side of second base when a pitch is thrown, it requires that the two infielders that start a half-inning on a given side stay on that side for the entire half-inning. So, under the current rules, if d'Arnaud is at third and Cabrera at second at the start of an inning, they can't switch until the start of the next inning (and can only do it at the start) - and can only switch back at the start of a subsequent inning.

@armadillolover992 ай бұрын
The Mets best defensive option from a pure only-looking-at-the-infield perspective would’ve been to have Juan Lagares play 2B or 3B, because Lagares was a SS through much of his minor league career (in fact in the minors he played 30 more games at SS than he did in CF). But I think Collins felt more comfortable with trying to hide d'Arnaud rather than sacrificing outfield defense by having by far his best defensive outfielder and at that time only true CF, play the infield instead.
