@berkey your recommended approach to learning & studying poker was interesting. Do you plan to add any guidance to the website to match? Perhaps indicating the order in which courses should be done to achieve the marco/meso/micro approach that you recommend.

I've watched this POD on / off for a couple of years (living mostly in the Philippines) I try to find gems that are meaningful to me. Talking about staying sharp or fresh or motivated. I'd like to flip the convo to ONE specific thing. ** What tournament are you played? Location and buy-in amount. I say this because I've run better than average in maybe 30 lifetime tournaments .. but "I think" it's worth taking your "Shot" in the WSOP Main, even if it's far above your payroll. Because soooo many players in EVERY rebuy tourneys play ultra agro and as a percentage, your ROI might be so deluded, it's BETTER to play in the "One tournament" that levels the playing field. No re-buy, and it's so important to so many, even the agro players must respect the tourney. One man's opinion. Curtis, 56, retired Navy, math and strategy has been my life.

Berkey you're just flat out wrong. Can you go heavy and lift weights everyday and get better? Or do you need to stagger training and recover? Can an NFL player play a game everyday? One mistake in poker, and you potentially lost your weekly or even monthly earn. Unlike a normal job where you can just clock in and go through the motions if you're having a bad day, you do that in poker, you're going to LOSE MONEY. You play when you feel focused and sharp, simple. You can do things like diet, meditation, exercise, study, to increase your capacity for the former. Does a brain surgeon "force it" on a day where he's feeling off? Exactly. Get off your high horse. I want players in my game who aren't 80% + and are forcing it. I will exploit the shit out of them.

100% awful take from berkdawg. It's not that complicated, poker is a game of making decisions. If you do things that affect your decision making like playing too much and neglecting other areas of your life like sleep, nutrition, general life balance then your decisions will be worse and you will play suboptimal.

@@MikeyGrandeexactly - then you add variance (which volume is supposed to cure) and the seesaw is wildly upset

I think also there needs to be a discussion re the quality of volume - if volume cures variance why don’t we talk about how, within that volume, there can be varying quality, and arguably diminishing quality

Berkey seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to the DNegs decision to play less. "Building a callus around it" sounds like David Goggins cult nonsense which we all know Berkey is down the rabbit hole in.

He always talks about solvers and theory but I never hear him talk about actual live hands he's played recently. I don't even know what he does. Is he a 2/5 grinder? He used to be an online player but I'm sure Berkey put a stop to that.

Daniel and Helmuth have a lot of insecurity and success in poker is their identity and one area of notable success…consequently neither wants to lose that and both want to further their legacy in poker. For Helmuth that’s winning bracelets and Daniel wants to increase position in lifetime earnings and WSOP PoY wins so both play a lot of events and fire a lot of bullets and travel to Bahamas and Europe for WSOP bracelets.
