And funny…Jerry’s face is serious as he says “ she likes it cool, so we’ll allow it” meanwhile Linda smiling ear to ear….hahaha. Too funny. Well done you!

I'm 51 and still work full time. I live in Georgia in a 3000sqft cape cod. I'm amazed at the difference in expenses. I've been off work for a couple of weeks. My best friend messaged me and asked what I'm doing. I said loving life. He said he would love life too if he had more money. I was thinking what does that have to do with time off. My expense are very low compared to this. I Paid off my mortgage in 2019. My taxes and home insurance is $310 a month. Water bill which includes trash pickup is $56. Electric bill was $87 last month. 2 phone lines are $112. No cable or internet. No amenity fees. I'm 150ft from a park. I can go for $20 a day. I choose not to. Free park is 2 minutes away. Food is $150 but that includes a lot of hygiene products and face mask etc. Car insurance is $107. My teenager crashed my car 3 years ago. That will eventually come down. My medical insurance is $40 a week. That's thru my employer and includes dental and life and disability. I'm 13 minutes from work so gas is cheap. I mow my lawn and clean. Me and my daughter cut each others hair. We wash our own cars. My daughter works as a cook and brings home leftovers. Last night my dinner was BBQ pork plate with baked beans and baked potato. I'm feeding my 3 outside kitties the huge meatloaf she brought home the day before. I'm probably living on 1500 to 2000 a month.

I can’t afford to live there and this was extremely helpful. It would have been disastrous if I had bought a house there and then tried to manage on my SS and retirement. Oh my, you just saved me lots of distress. Also, I know my personality well enough to know the rising amenity fee would upset me … and all the rules would irritate me in the end. Thank you so much for being good people and being transparent. I’m really glad you two are happy!

MY Aunt and Uncle sold their house for $550,000 in Michigan and bought a $325,000 used home there. They bought it outright and paid off the bond which was $23,000. My Uncle told me by the time they paid off everything and bought three golf cars, one for him, one for her and a three seater, they still came out $95,000 ahead. He says his monthly cost is about $650 a month to live there. They love it and are living the time of their lives. I am so happy to see them enjoy their lives. I agree it's not because you live where it'll flood, but during a storm claim many people don't know it but your claim can and probably will not cover your damages because the insurance company will claim that damage occurred because of wind blown rain and pushed by winds. Yeah no flood coverage guess what not covered..we live along Alabama coast and know better..we live 40 miles inland and are not in the 500 yr. Flood plan but we have flood insurance

I pulled out my budget here in Georgia and was ticking off all your line items. Very thorough approach. You add in some of your Misc. noted at the end for gifts/vacations/donations and you're tacking on another $10k per year plus adding in for some earlier "conservative" numbers. Now you two are almost at the Financial Planner designation stage. Next step is where does the revenue come from (obviously an individual case by case)........so the only budget item left out is "Am I saving money each year or drawing from savings each year", which changes as inflation and age contribute to the calculations------------Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. JOB WELL DONE!!!!

@@JERRYANDLINDA I'm the single 76 yo dude who commented earlier. My late wife and I took cooking courses at a local community college early on in our 57-yo marriage and loved to cook together. When she was working full-time and I was working from home, I did all the cooking. Even now 10 yrs after her passing, I cook all the time. Not just BBQ, which I can do with a plumb, but with full course meals. My back yard patio is a 'hood gathering place about once a month where my neighbors bring their delicacies and I provide a new recipe on roasted herb chicken or garlic infused pork tenderloin or even homemade potato chips. My freezer is always a go-to for an-alone left-over meal. I have b'fast out at a local french bistro once a week after my work-out at the Y or a burger and $2 beer at the local minor league ball game. BTW, no pool either. Retirement living used to be less expensive than your typical expenses while raising your family. The Villages is a bit of a premium experience and with property values skyrocketing your expenses are similar to our middle class area in South Florida. However, your home insurance is about 1/3 what we're paying for a similarly priced home and your utilities are a little less. Great info, thanks.

Agreed! I live in Palm Beach County.. out west of West Palm Beach. I have 1.5 acres in Loxahatchee. House is ranch style (just 1500 sq ft air conditioned), I have a 3 stall (tongue & groove) barn with openings to paddocks. I have a 130x80 arena. We just shopped insurance, as it went up substantially this year. We have top end coverage (and costs have skyrocketed to replace this home (or barn!) and we currently pay $4300 a yr for insurance (including flood). We've been through a couple of 140mph hurricane winds and had minimal damage, .. mostly fallen branches from palm trees. I guess moving to the Villages and having those costs, would be like me having 3 horses in my barn here! LOL!! Don't even have me tell you their yearly expenses.. cause if hubby saw it, he'd have a heart attack! LOL! I make just enough through training, sales, & professional photography to cover the costs of the horses.. but never a big profit (unless through sales of a horse I trained!) The horses to me are a passion that I love. If you labor daily doing something you love, .. it's never work, is it? 😁

Cars are built better now re safety. But I do have a V6 2005 Toyota Highlander with only 110,000 miles I bought new in 2005 that still runs excellent for me. Just routine maintenance. @@djbvida .. I have a 2005 Chevy Avalanche that I love! 135,000 miles on it (averaging 8000 miles a year) and its barely ever needed anything more than tires, oil changes, a battery or two 😅.. a carburetor and lastly, a water pump. But! It's paid off! It's a special tow package (pulls my horse trailer!), and has lots of bells and whistles with leather interior, awesome (heated) seats with lumbar support etc.. I was thinking of selling it and getting a Kia Sorrento! I'm still weighing all the options of doing that. I had some health issues that put me in a wheelchair, then a walker, and now I use a cane. Even with my extra "step up" for getting in my Avalanche, it's still a bit difficult. I am debating if I should keep it (as I'm getting stronger weekly!), or to get me a vehicle a bit more low to the ground! 😁 At 68 yrs young 🤪 .. I'm seriously contemplating the latter! Especially since I only use my horse trailer 4-6 times a year to haul to horse shows (and I could hire that done cheaper than the horse trailer upkeep!) It would be kinda neat to have a backup camera.. LOL! But, in my heavy Chevy, I sure feel much safer in it if I was in an accident!

People also must realize and I hate to say it is if you can afford to live there if a love one passes away. I have friends who purchase homes in the Villages and someone gets sick and passes away and now they can't afford to live there anymore and sometimes it is sad. I tell people couples should live like there single so when someone passes away they don't have to move. My sister and brother-in-law have a huge home in the Villages where they stay for the winter then they comes back to St.Louis in the summer. They have a company that takes care of everything. I visited them a couple of times and it is very nice place to visit but it just not my cup of tea. Great Video!!

Thank you for such thorough and informative video! Well done! 👏👏 You are both very lucky to afford such a lifestyle for which you obviously must have planned well and worked hard for. Enjoy it in good health! Unfortunately that lifestyle is not possible for many Seniors in Florida. The cost of living is truly getting out of hand particularly in Miami/Dade County where the average/minimum salary is relatively low compared to the high cost of living. Many native Floridians are living in poverty nor can afford a descent retirement life. Very sad!

And let's face it. a LOT of people work hard, plan, and save well for retirement but that doesn't always equal out to a good retirement . We have good buddies that we're ready and set to go and travel and have a lucrative and relaxing retirement and then health and the loss of one of there retirement plans due to the recession that hit back in 2008 forced them back into the workforce with no plan retiring. This couple above is one of the lucky ones.

Wow your insurance (all kinds--homeowners, car insurance, etc) is so cheap! I pay a lot more than that on a 124 year old house in the middle of Tornado Alley (Kansas). Your utilities are amazingly low--I thought cooling a house in muggy, hot Florida would cost much more than that. Thanks for giving such a detailed breakdown of expenses.

My goodness! My all-electric bills are much higher here in N. TX. Summer months run $800-900 with Fall & Spring being $400-$500. But there are other necessary items you mentioned that are less costly here, and your extra fees are certainly cause for honest consideration. Thanks, and blessings to y'all!

This is the first video of yours I've watched - and I just subscribed. You did an excellent job! I'm turning 62 this year and planning to retire in the next 3-5 years. Obviously I'm looking at retirement life options, hahah. We own a small horse farm - 17 acres. It is bordered on 2 sides by a river and the area is absolutely beautiful. My wife has never worked and stayed home and raised our 3 kids - they are all now in college or graduated and living elsewhere (with great careers). I know we will keep this house as our son wants to come back home eventually. I am not certain we could afford a second home - even though I know my wife would like it - she likes people and activities. I have looked at the villages as a possibility. I could pay cash for a home if the home was under 500K and would have 7-10K monthly for expenses there. The taxes and HOA fees concern me. In a perfect world my wife would go there without me to stay for months at a time as I'm not a fan of crowds. Anyway, your video certainly gave me some intelligence to ponder.
