Idk if it’s a good throwing knife but it’s definitely one of my favorite knives. I bought it years ago bc it was on sale at a local big box store. It holds its edge and I put it through alot. I normally break the tips off my knives or bend them. I use it as a hunting knife and a general purpose knife on my homestead. I bring it with me when I go camping as well. I’ve peeled bark with it, chopped with it and even used it as a pry bar. It’s not so heavy that it’s uncomfortable but it’s heavy enough to have the umf to chop through small pieces of wood.

The shape, weight and length definitely make it a great thrower, the down side of it is they are very likely to break, that’s why most people recommend tempering cold steel throwers in the oven.

I had this conversation with someone today👍👍 I think I’m going to do that

That's certainly a useful and sturdy knife in addition to throwing. I have a hypothetical question for you. You're out and about with your loved ones. You are equiped with your typical EDC gear. Presumably at least one of those items is a knife you can throw. Assume an obviously aggressive individual within 25 ft and you have already decided that extreme force is likely required. What do you reach for first and where does an thrown knife rank on that list? 🤔
@411Outdoors2 жыл бұрын
I could not love this question more. Here in the United States within 25 feet I’m going to draw my pistol and take my shots. I’m more than likely going to keep my knife with me for close combat if he gets passed my bullets. I would use a knife throwing the same way the ninja used the Shuriken. Let’s say that I was being pursued by multiple attackers and I was able to get the drop on one without him seeing me. I would throw a knife in his neck to stay quiet while trying to avoid the others. Knife throwing is vicious when the perpetrator don’t see or hear you

@@411Outdoors Interesting. The possibility of them having a gun or them taking yours makes that a reasonable response. In Canada I have neither the concern nor the option. At 25 feet we either close with each other or walk away. If I'm really ticked I might warm him up a bit with the slingshot from concealment. But that's essentially hunting, not self defense.😂

Hate to say that's one of the few throwers I ever broke. Really surprised because coldsteel is normally extremely tough.

Very shocked it broke but I’m sure it can definitely happen

What type of grip do you use? I just bought a pair of these, but have never been a thrower before.

It varies, I use hammer grip for rotation but I also do no spin with my index on the back of the blade
