The tour guide don't have to work for the government To be happy. This is the colonial way of reasoning that is why we are still in our present situation in Africa today. It looks he's good with his job and might not want to work with the government. If you had suggested sponsoring the man for a documentary that would have made more sense.

As the old African proverb says “Until the lion tells his side of the story, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” We’ve only heard the side of the Europeans, they say we didn’t resist, that’s not true, the Kongo ruler Nzinga Mbemba resisted and fought against slavery, the queen of Ndongo (modern-day Angola) Nzinga Mbandi, resisted, in present day Senegal 🇸🇳 and Guinea , the kingdoms of Fouta Toro and Fouta Djalon resisted, the Queen of Walo (Sénégal) Ndate Yalla was a fierce warrior queen who resisted. Several major African kingdoms took measures to limit and suppress the slave trade, including the kingdoms of Benin and Dahomey. Agaja Trudo, the king of Dahomey (r. 1708-40), banned the slave trade and even went as far as attacking the European forts on the coast. Unfortunately, Agaja Trudo’s successor did not share his view and profited from engaging in the trade.

We used to recite this beautiful poem about Africa in elementary school, here it goes : Africa my Africa Africa of proud warriors in ancestral savannahs Africa of whom my grandmother sings On the banks of the distant river I have never known you But your blood flows in my veins Your beautiful black blood that irrigates the fields The blood of your sweat The sweat of your work The work of your slavery Africa, tell me Africa Is this your back that is unbent This back that never breaks under the weight of humiliation, This back trembling with red scars And saying no to the whip under the midday sun But a grave voice answers me Impetuous child that tree, young and strong That tree over there Splendidly alone amidst white and faded flowers That is your Africa springing up anew Springing up patiently, obstinately Whose fruit bit by bit acquires The bitter taste of liberty. This poem was written by David Mandessi Diop who was born in Bordeaux to a Senegalese father and a Cameroonian mother. Reciting the poem in French is more beautiful!

Its time to bring some Light onto the story of KUNTA KINTE First of all nobody mentioned that Kunta was actually the Great Grandfather of The African American writer named ALEX HAILEY who traced his family ROOTS from America back to his original homeland in the Gambia. The history of Kunta Kinte was passed down through 300 years of slavery through His family very much as history of my family was passed on to me. Not all African Americans lost their African roots of culture and traditions through the Atlantic Slave Trade. The Island became famous after Alex Hailey wrote the book ROOTS and made his pilgrimage from America back to the homeland of his Great Grandfather Kunta Kinte. In the late 1970's and the island became a part of African American History as well as one of the most known tourist areas in Africa.

Great video maya. Thank you again and again for what you are doing !!! Signing in from the U.S. This is an especially heartfelt reminder cause as a child I saw the series " ROOTS" . But I didn't completely understand the significance when I was young . Now that I'm older ...... it is priority 1 to make it back to the motherland........ to home. AFRICA UNITE.........

He will be so grateful for your help. I'm sure help comes when he most need it. it's not easy to do what he is doing. He's a brilliant, intelligent, soldier of unity and truth. Tell your friends and comment to others about giving him more support. What he does is nothing short of astonishing.

I recall watching the TV serialisation of Alex Haileys book Roots back in the 1970s and the massive impact it had then. To people of my generation who watched it, the name of Kunte Kinteh is burned into the memory. Never again

But the real enemies are our own kinsmen who sold their people, they are still here with in governmental positions who sell our resources, never letting the people have a semblance of decent living, see the road to kunta kinteh Island, a travesty. These are the people we need to rise against and flush out.

I watched the Kunta Kinteh film some years back, and I never knew I'll get a chance to have someone going through those historical places, like for real fact. The gentle man was great in educating all of us. I really love this video and I think every African should normally do. This is our story, the blacks race story. I sincere thank you #WoDe MaYa and your crew. I pray you get more financial support to carry this movement to the end. For those who can not support them financially, please let's share his videos maximum possible -I think that's the least we can all do. Let's Other Africans know, Let's the world know that there's something like this going on. This is absolutely awesome! This is African to the Africans themselves And indeed Africa to the world. May God guide you and your crew to the end.

Rena Kalahiki yes they were, most of the salves that arrived in the 1500’s arrived in Brazil. Brazil has the largest Portuguese speaking population in the world. The largest African population outside of Africa is also Brazil. When you study the history of sugar, you will come to understand that sugar was one of the major catalyst and capital in the Transatlantic slave trade. Sugar was the cocaine during that time of history. Most of the people who owned those ships were “Jews” with Spanish last names.

@Leonice Williamson The 1st where always Africans on other Africans. Read about Ancient Egyptians, Ethiopians, Nigerians etc. There is more than enough blame to go around but that was the ancient world. The difference is the level of brutality, forced name change, forced working without compensation forever or until death, started with the Europeans not the Arabs. Blaming Arabs for what is clearly not an Arab practice is ridiculous, It has no historical precedent. Ex look up Africans living in Iraq, they have been there for over 400yrs. They know that they are Africans, most have not mixed, and they are not slaves, Most never where.

@Leonice Williamson Once again Arabs had indentured servitude also, you where not a slave for every study history ex Bilal ibn Rabat. Was a black slave and many others that where freed and where great people in history. Bilal became the governor of Syria, slavery among the Arab was different from the Europeans. Also Slav, is not an Arabic word. What muslim Army went to Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria or Mali? Also Spain Name it? Islam is not by force it’s by choice ex Malaysia and Bosnia
