Giacomo Casanova is remembered today for his many illicit affairs. After all, the word "Casanova" still denotes a cad who knows his way around women. But however legendary or unbelievable the stories about his life seem to be, the vast majority of them were at least partly true. Who was Casanova, the living legend?

I find it weird that people romanticise Casanova when he literally slept with underaged girls AND his own daughter. I don't buy the whole "it was a different time" argument either -- he died in 1798, which is only just over 200 years ago. The world was different, but not THAT different, and what he did would have been abhorrent to many people of the time. No wonder he was imprisoned without trial.

Very good video. Outside of Christ himself, Casanova is the person I would have most liked to have had a conversation with. Just an amazing man. Just a couple of small points. He actually fought several duels in his life. He carried a pistol " to protect my life and a sword to protect my honor." He was renowned as an outstanding swordsman but, oddly enough, his most famous duel was with pistols against a Polish Count. He was not sentenced to five years in the Leads, the prison he was jailed in. His sentence was " at the authorities pleasure," which meant he could have been jailed for life with no explanation. He escaped with a renegade monk, Balbi, who had fathered three children by three different girls. The picture you had up for Mrs. Wynne ( may not have been your intention) was actually a picture of his only official fiancee, Manon Balletti. Even by today's standards, she really was a beauty.

You got to think, what did women in the 1700's act like? Yes, same female sexual nature(hell, same human sexual nature), but the mannerisms and the way they spoked, and body movement, the woman's bone structure in the face, the dress code, thicker hair, just everything was different about those women. Modern day females can't compare! And how did Casanova conduct his manners around those women? Seduction ain't the same as today as back then. How do you seduce a modern day female VS a women from the 1700s? Yes, very differently!

Can you do one of Matthew Fulk? Born in 1713, he came to 1725 with his brother, Ludwig, from Germany to Pennsylvania, and later settled in Virginia. Some years later, they were captured by Senadoe Indians. When Ludwig was burned at the stake, the chief's daughter (unknown name, many mixed sources) saved Matthew by choosing him to be her husband. They married at about 1734. In 1763, he was appointed by Governor Madison of Virginia to affect a peace treaty with the Indians. (There is a monument erected in his memory near Harrisonburg, Virginia supposedly, but I can't find info on it.) He bought one mile of land in what is now Page County, Virginia, for his son, John Fulk. In 1781, they purchased additional land to the north. The lands later became known as Fulk's Run, Virginia. His wife, often listed as "Sedano" (of many spellings), was described as a tall, tawny woman with grey-green eyes, who could speak, read, and write in English. Innacurate sources speak of Matthew as as being of Scotch-Irish descent, but he and his brother came from Germany. He was, however, possibly born in Scandinavia, but definitely did grow up in Germany. He did not likely, however, travel with Colonel Lewis, nor travel west when the Indians were removed from Rockingham County, "leaving behind a large family of boys and some girls." Someone did extensive research into the Lewis & Clark expedition, and Matthew is not listed among them. Edit: It appears this may be a difficult one to crack. However, if there's a living relative of the female-only line from the couple, there's a type of DNA test to confirm he did in fact marry a Native American Indian woman. Figuring how messed up the true story of "Pocahontas" (not her real name), could you also do one of the true story of "Pocahontas"? There's a geneology website that went over her life in much detail, which has been analyzed and gone over by Native American Indian historians for respectful accuracy.

Hmm..idk about that. Casanova's parents were in theatre during a time of world tourism. He was noted to have a quick wit and attended the University of Padua at 12yrs old, he graduated at 17yrs with a law degree. In todays terms he would likely be the child of Hollywood actors and having the ability to attend a university at a young age especially if he showed significant knowledge of the subjects. He most likely would not choose to have children and would live his life like a lot of rich old men do.

Ngl my dude, as much as I like this channel, and this video, this is not accurate. Casanova didn’t settle down at Count Waldstein’s castle because he got tired of his roving life. He was stuck there because he blew his fortune, was too old for women, and had no more blessings to count. He wrote his life story because he was miserable, and that was the only way to pass the time.

Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, born in the New Spain, never visited Europe and died in 1695, long before Casanova was born. She was a most recognized female writer during the Golden Age of Spanish literature. She actually appears in the $200.00 pesos bill.

He acquired multiple STIs during his love adventures but he also developed his own treatment for them.. @@crazy4beatles Ignoring the fact that Casanova was well known in his own time and other famous people met him and wrote about him, if you actually read the memoirs, he continiously says that they will be published after his death. So they cannot come after him, after they become know in the public. Furthemore, many times he chooses to use the first letter of a name and not the whole name of a person he interracts, because he does not want to cause problems to that person by identification. Lastly, Casanova started writing his memoirs, at the end of his life, spent in Bohemia, as a depressed librarian. He wasn΄t going to write anything, but he did in order to aleviate his depression and avoid suicide. So he wrote, in order to relive his memories. That kind of a man has no reason to lie. He didn΄t do it for the money, as he knew he wouldnt live to see them published. He didn΄t do it for the fame. He almost even destroyed the manuscript. So these characteristics do reinforce the fact, that what he wrote was indeed the truth.
