The coast guards are very brave men and women. The sea is so beautiful, but so deadly. I have crossed the Irish Sea many times and it can be hair raising. I can see your grandfather was a remarkable man. I admire your analytical mind. Well done for finding so much about him .

Thank you buddy, this 15th January marks the 200th anniversary. Although sadly, I have seen very little about it in the news. It would be a shame if it’s forgotten. Thank you for you lovely comment about my analysis 🧐, I am very much like that. I try to think outside the box whilst researching. You can also learn lots about your ancestors by understanding the place they lived and the time period. It can add a big dimension to our forebears and in some way bring their story to life. 😊 I have never been to Ireland, but I would certainly love to go

@@StephenandYhana That's a great way to look at history, probably that's why you have such empathy for it. You would love Ireland l am sure. Just tell them your a distant cousin of John Wayne and you will be set for life lol !!!!😎😅

Amazing family history, we still have some old Life Saving Stations in my area. Nice being able to return to Walton on the Naze.👋❤️
@StephenandYhana3 жыл бұрын
😊😉 Actually I filmed those two Walton On The Naze videos on the same day as the fossil hunting, but it took me a while to put Jonathan’s story together. I really hope I did his story justice as I’m sure he was an incredible man. The US coastguard must be just as old as ours here in England. They don't always get the recognition they deserve. They do an incredible job, both life saving and protecting the coast 😊 thank you guys, will catch up with you both soon

The Life Saving Service was formally made in the 1850’s, but there was predecessors to the service. The Francis life car was first used to rescue passengers and crew of the Aryshire in 1850. The location is very close to me and I have met family members of rescued passengers.👋

I had a lot of fun researching his life, I can imagine he was an incredible man. Those Martello towers near you, were probably lived in too by Coastguards. I need to find one that allows visitors. As I would love to look inside. Thank you buddy for the comment and for watching too 😊😁

Thank you buddy, I can’t imagine what life was like in that tower - Apparently it was cold and damp. Perhaps a reason why Jonathan jr died young. A big thank you for watching 😊

I had to go back an watch this, Stephen. Fascinating to imagine Jonathon and family in the Martella tower. Is it possible to go inside? Jonathon was rightly proud of achieving Admiral, and you are rightly proud as well. I read some books about Captain Cook, as he explored early Alaska. If I recall, he lost 50% of his children. Although infant mortality was much higher then, I had the same thought as you, and I am sure that you are right, that they grieved no less. It must have been very hard. Amazing work, Stephen!
@StephenandYhana2 жыл бұрын
Awwww thank you guys, for watching this again. It means a lot to me as it’s certainly a story I’m very proud of in my family tree. Sadly the Martello tower in Walton is now owned by a caravan park and used for heavy equipment and generators. But the outside is as it was all those years ago. There are two more towers further along this coast, one is now a small museum and the other a bar. I haven’t visited either yet, but I do plan to do so later this year. This story is being followed up as a podcast and I have been asked to take part which is pretty cool and the radio station is turning the story into a short video for their blog. So I’m over the moon that I have been able to share his life’s story in more than one place. Sending you guys my very best and looking forward to catching up with you again soon on your channel 😉😊
