If I recall correctlyJim.& Cole tried to talk Bob out of going to Northfield with Jess n Frank.Only going along with it because Bob refused to back down.Later,he blamed himself for not listening to them & said had they not stayed with him after their injuries,they would not have been taken.Bob died in prison,Jim commited suicide after losing his sweetheart & being exiled in Minnesota after their parole.John was lost in '74.Cole & Frank lived till 1914 & 1915respectively.I believe Frank's son was in the First WW.I have a cd of music from the time,played on Jim's violin.Its lovely that it was restored.I don't know where it is though.Unfortunatly.Y have they brought imaginary riders into this movie?They were going to use another town but Jess thought he'd been recognized & they moved on to meet their karma.The James Boys,3 Youngers, Bill Chadwell who knew the area,Charlie Pitts...

You forgot Clell Miller. He and Bill Chadwell, mistakenly called Stiles, were killed in the streets. Charlie Pitts stayed with the Youngers and died before the Youngers were captured. Frank James shot the bank manager, not Jesse. Jesse never went inside the bank. The bank vault wasn’t even locked, but the robbers never checked it.

The best version of the James-Younger story is "The Long Riders" which uses the same family dynamics of the gang with actors...James and Stacey Keach as the James brothers. David, Keith and Robert Carradine play the Youngers. Dennis and Randy Quaid play the Millers and the Guest brothers portray Bob and Charlie Ford. The soundtrack is provided by Ry Cooder. More historically accurate than other attempts to tell the story.

At the Centralia Massacre, September 27 1864 both Southern and Northern accounts said that Anderson's men were headed out when a Yankee soldier shouted "why don't you come back and fight you rebel cowards" Anderson's men then wheeled around and fight they did. Many gave Jesse credit for killing the leader. Now I know that there is often hyperbole in hindsight, however though Jesse may or may not have killed the leader he and 79 other men charged against 147 and won a battle. That is standing face to face against superior numbers and winning. That does not make Jesse some angel but saying he never fought face to face is untrue unless you wish to discard the pieces of history you do not like, and to do that would be as dishonest as any other misrepresentation. I would like to know of an account of Jesse being a back-shooter as I have never heard of one. citation: A thrilling record: : founded on facts and observations obtained during ten days' experience with Colonel William T.
