One of the best westerns made. Brian Keith was a good comedic actor and Dean Martin was a good actor too. And Ben Johnson was the greatest cowboy actor to live.
@DUCKSAREEVILLLLLLLL2 жыл бұрын
Ben Johnson should have been the lead in many westerns. He must have had an abysmal agent. The guy was an actual, Oklahoma cowboy; he didn't need that horrible, fake, Hollywood, Southern accent. Hollywood screws everything up, to the point that Italians had to show them how to make westerns.
@echo-channel778 ай бұрын
My only complaint is the awful music they selected for 1970s westerns. It was always either hippie crap or something that sounded like theme to that cartoon Peanuts. 80s we're much better, and by then it was getting politically-stupid.

Never heard of this, but Keith and Ben Johnson's are always good, and Deano is also, surprisingly, believable. I thought he would camp it up, but he didn't. There seems to be an endless supply of decent westerns out there, if you look hard enough. Could have done without the Bachrach music though. It always pinholes movies of the sixties and seventies.

One of my all-time favorites. My boyfriend's mother was a supervisor at Technicolor and brought this movie home one time, on a reel. Watched it over and over until she took it back to Technicolor. That was a very long time ago.

The music is so seventies, it detracts from the movie. The acting is fine, even Deano, but, alternate music would make the whole movie better.

An early 70's western/comedy. Nobody replaces the "duke" for king of westerns but the actors in this movie were all the rage of it's day just the same. The westerns of this era had the women wearing makeup of the 60's and 70'sfashion and they almost never got dirty. Their clothing miraculously got cleaned and pressed by the next scene. The Indians were usually blue eyed white men with wigs, and talked really funny, nothing like any first nation person I have ever met. Oh well.... such is the literary license of the era. I used to have to watch westerns all the time because my dad was a fan of westerns. Now I just watch them on my own as a reminder of simpler times when a simple hospitality extended determined whether a person lived or died from the conditions of living in the outdoors. If a western has Dean Martin in it you can bet there is a note of comedy to it..

I always think of the life of horses in the real ol' Western cowboys days. Films show them like cars, park 'em up & go shopping! They seem so fast full out. Called the Quarter horse. Native Indians didn't have horses until the Spanish & Quakers arrived. The horse didn't exist in the Americas North & South. Steal one & it was the hangman for you. Beautiful animals.
@susantunbridge46123 жыл бұрын
There has been a horrendous amount of abuse of horses in western movies over the years. The Hobbit was a really bad one, and there has been abuse, deaths etc. in movies filmed in Alberta. Going fast full out is not always the best treatment of horses, they do have bones and ligaments, and lungs. Most horses used in movies were Standardbreds. The Quarterhorse was developed for speed over a short distance. Horses did exist in the Americas but were hunted to extinction for food. Having Dean Martin starring would probably go some way to making sure that they were well treated as they seem to have been. He was a good rider and a good horseman. Roy Rogers was a legendary horse trainer, who stood out because he was kind to them. He trained "Liberty" horses. Viggo Mortensen always adopts any horses that he works with on screen, because he knows what their lives are like. There are organizations that try to ameliorate the abuse, but it's not always successful. And movies probably have something to do with the fact that Willie Nelson rescues so many horses.
