This is so unbelievably sad. Unfortunately all our countries have horror stories in our closet with similar results, the perpetrators don’t face the Justice they deserve. If the family members now in Australia were involved in this then absolutely take their million dollar golf course, sell it and try and repair some damage to survivors. Just my thoughts.

Just watching the videos playing as you spoke made me burst into tears. You can see the pain ad anguish on their faces and it breaks my heart. I will never understand how any human being anywhere in the world can abuse others. These people need justice. Thank you for bringing this to light.

I think there have been social experiments where people were given roles to play, like guard who tortures and prisoner who is tortured. I think psychologically the proponents ended up largely adopting their roles, perhaps not eagerly, but eventually. This kind of goes with how I've come to think about life, people, the world etc. That people are not innately evil but can end up doing evil things by being born into or adopting roles. I really think we all have components of good and evil and could with difficulty or ease commit crimes in certain scenarios or with certain backgrounds. Of course this is not admirable, desirable or beneficial to either or all parties for so many reasons. So I think it is also possible to override these natural tendencies, influences etc. Again perhaps with difficulty or ease I don't know. I really think this is part of the meaning of life, that we can and do all kinds of things, both admirable and criminal, and we see or become the result. Eventually through experience we realise the better way, like spiritually evolving or something. So we become good people by experience and choice by evolving spiritually, for example we are all watching this with horror thinking "how could this happen"? So this is part of our evolution, to make decisions against these kind of things happening further. By harming others we and end up harming ourselves.

My friend from Daegu (of all places right?) was talking very briefly about Chun Doohwan and he’s usually an easy, happy-go-lucky type person. But when he mentioned him and spoke of him, he was very cross. And he ended it saying, “I don’t want to talk about him anymore!” And looking through the course of South Korea’s history during the 80’s, I see and understand why.

The squid game movie in Korea was rejected several times by the producers of several major media in Korea in 2008 until it was finally accepted by Netflix. Maybe this is the reason why they refused to show the squid games movie, because they nug some big cases in Korea that have happened.

We have this problem in the US because prisons are being privatized ... In counties where the y are privately owned they go out of their way to make it difficult for you to stay out of prison after having been arrested for minor crimes ...

Empty apology? They should create a committee (something S.K. gov loves) to sue everyone involved (or their descendants that have big business now) and compensate every living and surviving families of the deceased. In S.K. nothing will make people regret sincerely when the regret costs them big bucks. Bowing down? Korean people already overused that gesture a very long time ago.

I would not have thought that I would see things that I experienced in my youth, it took me a few moments before I started writing. I have origins in Romania (but now I live in Italy) and what you said in the video I experienced them in my youth because I grew up with Bolshevik-style communism, all dictatorships used orphaned children (let's say) because they were trained and raised with a purpose, my family's lands were confiscated and for as my grandparents opposed, they arrested them and forced them to do forced labor, and we were seen as a plague, you couldn't trust anyone because even your brother could betray you in exchange for a better life good, but many disappeared after being used and no one saw them again. My father did 6 months of forced labor because the neighborhood brigadier (he was my father's first cousin) found me (I was 5 years old) with a stuffed dog, because their doctrine was that everyone should contribute to the growth of the nation (as they said) and so at 5 years old I worked together with adults, and there are many things that I can't even tell them because it would be something more like Squid Game. Communism fell in 1989, there were also trials in Romania, but until today 100% justice has not been done and now we have in power phenomena from the time of communism and they sit well in parliament and make laws as they like, so we have another dictatorship but modernized and the difference between the past and the present is not too big, and honestly I don't expect to see who knows what changes in Korea too. I'm a Bts fan even though I'm a certain age but I see too many similarities with my home country and I'm amazed how Bts managed to make a world name from Korea . I hope I didn't offend anyone with my speech.

the economic growth of Korea was huge in a short amount of time, and there were already 3 waves of Korean cultural, soft power (BTS came out of 3rd generation kpop). This may have created different circumstances that aided their success. I am also sorry that you went through those hardships in the past. Thank you for continuing in humanity and not perpetuating hate in your life.

I always thought "Squid Game" was based on just general societal frustration in S. Korea, but holy shit, it's basically a fully inspired horror story that happened in real life. 100% agree with credibility issues. It's fucked up.

Sadly, shocking as this story is, I am not that surprised about the levels of corruption involved. I get the impression from many kdramas that the police service in Korea is not trusted and certainly not treated with respect, and I'm certain their involvement in this kind of thing is not forgotten. Koreas history is full of abuses like this one and, yes, the 1980s is NOT long ago at all - I'm certain that experiences like this, the presence of such places in a society and the fear they invoke, will remain a scar on the whole society for generations. Yes, Confucianism is part of the issue, but everywhere people are trained from childhood to comply, to keep their head down and keep silent. It makes me very very sad, and also makes me feel more than a little sick. It is hard to imagine how Korean society, as currently structured, could ever award justice to survivors and their families, could ever adequately punish those who benefited from this system. And ... yes, I'm damn sure the system flourished elsewhere too, and perhaps persists to some extent in the current care establishment. Very sad, but thank you for telling this story.

I don’t know much about what happened to Koreans between 1915-1945, but I know a lot about abuse and trauma. When you speak about what happened in this later atrocity, my first thoughts were about how horrific it is. But I wonder if this is like generational trauma - re-inflicting the fear and violations they know, onto vulnerable people. I only know the situation the last survivor of the r@pe rooms. (I can’t bear to call them “comfort women”) from her retelling to the Asian Boss channel. Anyway, it’s just an idea that the perpetrators of the “Brother Home” may have been reliving the violence. I understood your explanations because I could compare them to American crimes. On a smaller scale, people will run a group home to collect benefits from the tenant. The criminal landlords would mürdër tenants to continue collecting the benefits. Other situations were our 48 hour notice to citizens of Japanese descent that they must board a bus. Then our government held them in camps for years. As far as I know, there weren’t physical violations, just interrogation, loss of freedom, and loss of their businesses and property. I am also reminded of our unforgivable medical experimentation on black men who had syphillis. There’s a joke and punchline all in one sentence “We’re here from the government, and we’re here to help”

I noticed that some homeless people in my country prefer to sleep along the five-foot way, alleys or stone benches than to sleep on a warm bed in the welfare homes. I have seen the Welfare Department officers rounding up these homeless people to send them to the respective welfare homes or old folks' homes a few times in a year. Each time these homeless people are sent to the homes, some of them will sneak out and start all over again huddling along the five-foot way or alleys. They prefer to have their freedom than to be housed in the welfare or old folks' homes. I know this because I once heard a couple of welfare officers scolding a few homeless men and women for running away from the welfare homes' " You fellas again ? How many times do we have to send you to the welfare homes ? " I also heard these culprits complaining to the welfare officers that they felt stifled living in the welfare home and they would rather sleep anywhere out in the open to feel free. I guess old habits die hard. They may be old and homeless but they like to roam around freely too.

Stellar content as usual Sean. The deep dives are crystal clear thanks to your due dillengce. This is a heartbreaking case. To have your own government participate in the harm of it's own people is atrocious. And it's sad to say, but this is not the only case. Our world is full of incidents like this. And what kind of justice could ever compensate victims like this? When you are sold, 98% of the time you are never seen again. Depending on what your purchase was for in the first place. Soon as your purpose is fulfilled, or you get too old, ugly, out of shape or whatever reason you can no longer be useful, you are just gone. From experience, trust me when I say, there is no amount of money you can throw at anyone who was sold, for any reason, that will give them justice. Their only peace and healing can come from them doing the work in therapy for however long it takes. Sure, someone can help pay those bills, but other than that? I'm good bro. Unless I can see any culprits or patrons/customers of that "business" stone cold on a slab, then nothing is going to help me 🙃 I hope all the victim's are still alive, safe and healthy. I"m sorry for the loss of their freedom. I"m sorry their hearts were broken.

Oh wow..... No Words is right..... 😟😞😞 So much corruption, pain and sufferings. You are correct though, history should be taught, acknowledged and if still existing... reformed, no matter how painful. This is the only way future generations can learn from the past, healing can happen for victims and a better tomorrow can happen.

This is a shocking and disturbing case. As in almost every issue, the expectation of politicians to do the right thing for their people, as obvious as it should be, usually brings disappointment. You need to be a real leader to take responsibility for crimes, yes crimes, committed against citizens in your country and unfortunately many of the politicians today are not leaders. Also here in Israel, in the fifties, children of immigrants from specific countries were kidnapped by the establishment and given up for adoption in Israel or abroad when their families were informed that they had died. There are documents related to this that are in the state treasury that are still prohibited from being released and published. The evidences are piling up, but still no government is ready to open the issue, apologize and do something about it. Thank you for your super interesting videos. 🙏💜

The movie battle Royale comes to mind. It is Japanese movie,; Children are kidnapped, forced ,to fight and kill. Battle Royale ,Squid games Art imitates life. Sadly there many are atrocities all around the world; and in history the of our world. Until we see each (others )as human beings mint to be honored (respected)and not as a source of amusement or income things will never change! Love that I can have a safe place to have a conversation with someone Korea and different people from the world. I love your channel. ( So much for squid games.)

This is awful! I feel awful for those victims of this place and the gov't. Now people kidnap women and children to traffic. Where I live in Ohio we have a major interstate highway nearby. Last week my daughter-in-law was shopping with my 9 week old granddaughter. Some woman kept following her around the store. She would go to another department to get away and the woman would show up and watch her. She finally texted my son to meet her in a particular department. Once he got there the woman disappeared. It's a scary world. We live in a very safe middle to upper class town. But it's only 15 minutes from that highway. Apparently it is also a pipeline for drugs from Mexico. Aish.....

1-Since the beginning of time man has been cruel, violent & evil against their fellow man. (Ex. Hitlers concentration camps, numerous wars inc pows, prisions, mental institutions, slavery, etc.) Every country has skeletons in their closet!! 2-I had never heard of Squid Games & after a quick google search I found the Netflix movie which reminded me of the Hunger Games. 3-Currently, in the US there’s stories regarding Jeffry Epstein’s sex scandal involving high level officials as well as Prince Edward; the women’s gymnastics team sex scandal involving the team doctor; and NOW the open border policy of President Joe Biden whereby women & children are sex trafficked as well almost all living in poverty and the dirtiest of all jobs.

Every country has these types of sad stories to tell. My sister has twins, my aunt has twins and going back to my Paternal Grandmother, a set of twins in their family perished in a concentration camp during the Anglo-Boor war. The Squid Games has opened up a can of Historical worms for SK and the debt issue! It's good to be honest about the past. Like Appartheid in SA. Sad, dark and horrible history! That is what the arts are for, to look at the past and the present with an honest and objective magnifying glass! 🔎

Thanks for enlightening us, sir. I have yet to watch Squid Games. I must muster up my courage first before I watch this drama. Normal fighting and rough and tough tussle I can handle watching but intense fighting with mind games will give me heart palpitations. Sir, you do have a very clear and smooth skin. Dare I say baby skin? Chuckle....chuckle.. just pulling your legs. And, yes you are right about needing oil to fight oil. I once watched a drama where the big boss was poisoned and he was given a dose of another type of poison by the Chinese physician. The henchmen were going to beat up this Chinese physician for giving their big boss poison instead of antidote and the Chinese physician told them, " Take it easy guys. Your boss will be all right . Sometimes we need to use poison to counter poison. "

I think you are right. It's much more heartbreaking 💔 when people from your own country hurt you. Very sorry doesn't cut it. So heartbreaking. So sad.... imprisoned against their will. It reminds me of SJM. They knew what happened. They did nothing. So frustrating for the whole country. Any Korean citizen could be a victim. And you are right. It's happening somewhere else in another form....be sure of it....

I would literally use Frankincense oil based dead sea scrub for makeup remover with a mild soap bar and face brush. As harsh as it sounds it just isn't. I hate strange chemical concoctions with unknown residue that doesn't work and don't know what the result of it going in me could be. Frankincense is regenerative, oil based with nourishing and invigorating dead sea salt; soap to degrease and remove only the excess oil and cosmetics. It works; simple natural ingredients.

why are you showing dirty laundry of your country to the world? yes all these sounds horrible. but how much of this is really true? I was born in Korea in 1972 in Busan area. and in Korea it is normal for kids to be walking to school. I never had heard of anyone missing or kidnapped in school. If this was prevalent, no parents would let kids walk to school. I walked to school until 1983 when I moved to the States! I got lost when I was in kindergarten twice amd both times police notified my parents. so I ask whether how much of this is really true. U.S. demonized all orphages just like this. yes if there were wrongs really done, those need to be brought to justice. I am pretty sure many homeless were sincerely helped as well which do not make it to the news bc those are not provocative and 'interesting'. are you sure these ppl were not allowed to leave like a jail cell? ppl would have tried to escape and everyone would have known. that place is not in some island.

God is absolutely correct when he says, “man is constantly evil all the time “! What you described is what has been and is still going on all over the world and will until Jesus Christ returns for His inheritance from His Father! If one studies the Words of God it’s all in there! He also tells how things will get worse and worse until He returns! I never watched the Squid Games as I knew it was evil just from the advertisements! Anyone watching that garbage is putting money in someone’s pocket that definitely does not deserve it!!! They are still making money off the horrors of others! No government will address this because they know this has gone way beyond fixing as all the governments of the world are in on it in some fashion or another! There is only one fixer and He is not physically here yet, … but He’s definitely coming! You can take my words to the bank!!!!!!!
