I disagree that the denial of Christ by Peter indicates weakness on Peters part. Only hours earlier, he was willing to die by the sword in order to defend Christ. It can be assumed that there are some unwritten statements made by Christ to Peter, which caused him to make this denial.

assumptions aren't good when dealing with the Truth. Peter said he would die for Christ, and in that moment he likely would have. But as soon as Christ left his side, he began to doubt, or maybe to think that his time had not yet come, and so denied Christ. Jesus said that if we deny Him before man, He would deny us before the Father. Peter did a pretty heavy thing. He was redeemed by Christ's blood through his faith and repentance, however.
