The last kingdom has made me cringe too many times. Horrible writing, illogical actions that yield the same horrible results again and again, the characters never learn and seem to continuously allow the treasonous snakes among them to destroy their people. One conclusion: the writer has his own view on what life was like back then, and it's a rather condemning view he has, seems he thinks people were idiotic fools.

Alexander Dreymon is such an amazing actor. When Uhtred cried, I bawled like baby. I felt all his pain and all his happiness. I would love more Viking movies based on history. Wonderful true historical piece. Love this stuff. Love the Last Kingdom show. It's obviously not even 50% historically accurate but some of the themes of characters even whole families and people being stuck between Saxon and Dane at the time and the stress of uniting England and the Church are true historical themes and the story does justice to that I think.

Great video. Point of fact, the word viking is actually a verb rather than a noun. It refers to the practice of seaborne raiding into 'enemy lands to steal silver, cattle or whatever else they could lay their hands on, killing any who put up any resistance. To go viking was to jump in a ship, head for foreign shores and loot, burn, rape and pillage, then sail home with the spoils. The people doing the viking were referred to as Danes, Norse, Svear and even Rus, although they all ultimately originated from Scandinavia. The Normans, noteable for one of their leaders 'William' who became known as the Conqueror, who invaded Saxon England in 1066, were also from Scandinavia, hence the denomination 'Norman' from 'Norse Men'. Very much enjoyed this video.

I normally never watched these kinds of genre, but I tried the Vikings show and liked that so I tried the last kingdom and fell in love. Now I’m a big fan of these genres :D Edit: ok guys, recommend me a show like Vikings/last kingdom. Thanks ;)

Vikings Valhala [series - Amazing!] Set more than 100 years after the events of Vikings, the Netflix series has followed the increased tensions between the Vikings and the native English, as well as the warring factions of the traditional pagan Vikings and those with Christian beliefs. Focusing on the adventures of famous Vikings Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdottir and Harald Sigurdsson, the first season began with the St Brice's Day Massacre in 1002, and the show has the potential to continue on until 1066, considered the end of the Viking age by many historians.

Bernard Cornwell is one of my favorite authors and I have read the Uhtred series of novels. Knowing that he is a descendant o the great man makes me want to read them all again from that perspective.

Cornwell's Uhtred is Fictional, as is most of the saga. As Cornwell was adopted, they must have done some real detective work to find his link to the Historical Uhtred.

They're all fiction. As is A Song of Ice and Fire, which The Game of Thrones is based on. That book series is inspired by my Plantagenet, Merovingian and Capetian ancestors. This includes the Red Wedding (I have two) and the Wall, inspired by Hadrian's Wall.

Uhtred is the ultimate Perfection of a Man. He has every possible traits that just knock me out. Being 67 I have never watched a Hero as Compulsive to watch as I do Uhtred & he is the only Man to make my toes curl Even knowing he’s an Actor But I just luv his Character & if Dreams come true I hope to have a One of him with me (nuts ) but so true. I had previously read that there were two or three Uhtreds (the first, second, etc.), and indeed, the great warrior did come later, as pointed out here. I assume that Uhtred (in 'The Last Kingdom') represents them all, as well as any great general/warrior/strategist who would have been a vital part of any of the various kings' armies, and of whom would have been greatly depended upon, though not necessarily documented in history. Anyway, 'The Last Kingdom' is a fantastic series which just gets better and better with each season!

Uthred was a descendant of both the ealdermen of Bamburgh and a powerful thegn of Aethelstan from Mercia of the same name (Uthred being probably his grandson). Uthred is a Mercian name. In Alfred's time, the ealdermen of Bamburgh were crafty rulers who managed to deal with the Scots, the Welsh, and most importantly the Vikings keeping them at bay. They had a limited relationship with Alfred swearing an oath to him of friendship providing relics of Saint Cuthbert. I suspect that Alfred gave them in return silver and relics from southern saints. In 894, Aethelnoth led either an embassy or an army to York and may have met Osberth and Eardwulf of Bamburgh while in Northumbria. Cornwell created a composite character combining elements from the life of his ancestor and those of Aethelnoth, the Ealdorman of Somerset and a later abbot during Edward, Aethelstan, Edmund, and Eared's reigns, who lived past Edmund's time, living into his 90s. Aethelnoth's granddaughter maried Aethelweard the Chronicler after meeting the elderly survivor of Alfred's wars at the estate of Edington (Wiltshire) in 953 during one of King Eared's Witans and hearing Aethelnoth's stories. The meeting had a profound impact on Aethelweard, who arranged in his old age for one of his grandson to be named, Aethelnoth. Aethelnoth's deeds were important and his long life kept the memories of Alfred's wars alive for numerous generations of West Saxons and Mercians in the tenth centuries.

Please believe when I say, any one who claims a particular ancestor, is unless they have, Charters to land and DNA evidence are just guessing at their ancestry. Just because you may have a name that is close to or come from a certain area guarantees nothing. The recording of Birth, Deaths and Marriages , unless on personal papers is very hit and miss until the middle of the 17th Century, unless you have Irish Ancestry.

@@johnfisher697 I have seen people claiming to be the X grandchild of people who died childless. Even mythical characters! King Arthur? Total Fantasists, but it seems the Americans in particular have a need to claim 'Something' I find it very odd, because I was always led to believe the first emigrants were the poor, the dispossessed , criminals and religious nutters! Now we find out they were All Royalty! Fancy that! Let's face it no one had heard of Uhtred before the show! And it is horribly inaccurate, but now he is suddenly everybody 's Grandad! Hilarious!

@@hogwashmcturnip8930Good Morning Sir, yes it's amazing what ancestors people claim to have, also quite amazing are people putting "Destiny is all" not quite sure why but there you go. I don't know if its in this video but someone claimed him as an ancestor and I gave him lots of reasons as to why that is a very hard claim to prove but of course he assured me he could, In the end I gave up trying, I would hazard a guess and say the claimant's are American, and therein lies the problem for the most part.🤣 Cheers

I've been afraid to start season 4. I discovered the show when the first 3 seasons were out and it ruined my productivity and sleep schedule in the best way lol. I was so obsessed and couldn't stop watching. Now I'm waiting for the free time to start season 4 that I can become a zombie and not miss work or something lol.
