Re Truman looking at his wedding photos.... What he noticed was that Meryl had her fingers crossed. I don't know if kids still do it these days, but surreptitiously crossing your fingers (usually hiding them behind your back) while making a promise meant that you weren't *actually* making that promise. It was a "cheat code," as it were, for kids -- a way to later break the promise and technically not be lying (in kids' minds, at least). "But you promised!!"... "Yeah, but I had my fingers crossed, so it didn't count!" Kid logic. So Meryl crossing her fingers in the wedding photo showed that she didn't mean her wedding vows to be real; it was just part of the role she'd been hired to play.

This is one of those movies where no matter where I start watching from, it's so good and just pulls me in. Stellar from all fronts - Jim Carrey, the script, the other actors. And the originality. Ironically, this came out before reality TV hit the world by storm. Talk about foretelling.

The Asia and BJ show we are watching you. You are like Truman. Reality TV. Imagine if the world we live in is the only one they will show us.

This reaction started out pretty well, but then there was just a bunch of watching you two sitting there watching something. Did something happen in the editing? I've noticed it on some of your other reactions. Is there a certain protocol when it comes to editing for different movies?
@JoeR2033 ай бұрын
I feel the same way. At least let us see what you're reacting to. I know it all boils down to copyright issues so that's why they only show 3 seconds at a time (which is so annoying) but other reaction channels show longer clips but they'll superimpose a watermark on screen (also annoying when they don't have it faded enough) and they don't seem to get shut down.

What is interesting is how the Truman Show in a lot of ways predicted the future in terms of they amount of reality TV we have these days especially Big Brother but even social media and are needs and desires to watch other people living their lives through various platforms like TikTok and....KZbin.

Sylvia was kicked off the show because they wanted to make sure he married Meryl. Sylvia is watching the show waiting for Truman to figure things out and leave the show so she can be with him in the real world.

They had their moment years ago, but I think she's just an activist at that point. Just my take. I'm sure there were a lot of people who saw the immorality of the show.

I always imagine Truman met up with Sylvia and she helped him sue the production company for a lot of money. She's probably got lawyers.

Fun fact: The neighborhood and town scenes were filmed in a real place. Seaside, Florida. It's a pretty seaside town. There aren't a bunch of actors walking around dressed like the 1950s though. lol

We go to Seaside Florida every summer. It is an incredible town and there are hundreds and hundreds of bikes available to go around the town. King Charles visited in the 1980's and said it was one of the top planned commuities in the world. Another fun fact: no two fences in Seaside are the same.

King Charles also goes to another Andres Duany designed community in Vero Beach called Windsor. He plays polo there. It also has a golf course.

This movie came around when reality tv took off. Another similar movie that came out around this time was ED TV.

You should watch Falling Down starring Michael Douglas and Robert Duval. Also check out Money Train starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.

It also represents that mankind cannot contain the yearn to explore. Some take comfort in their own cave, others go out and discover. They underestimated Truman's yearn to explore, and paid for it dearly.

Did these two pass out when the movie was explaining that people were watching Truman on TV? Because they spend almost all of this movie confused about a detail that was literally in the trailer. They are treating this like it's some massive puzzle box that you're only supposed to figure out at the end, yet the premise is right in the title. Hard to watch their befuddlement.

Jim Carrey’s 1st movie was a supporting role in Peggy Sue Got Married. It was the rival studio’s response to Back to the Future. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather), so it’s pretty good. Stars Kathleen Turner and Nicholas Cage

Sylvia was Truman's True love and she loved him too so she tried to tell him and they kicked her off the show in the end he exits the studio and you see Sylvia running out of her home because he left the set and she went to find him so they can finally be together because the only thing real in his whole life was THEIR LOVE ❤

Love this movie. The first time I watched it, I got so emotional for Truman. I can see something like this happening in real life, which is just messed up.

The neighborhood is real. It’s called Seaside in south Walton county Florida. Just west of Panama City.

This was partly inspired by Jennifer Ringley, a college student who set up web cams all over her apartment. You could go to her website and see what she was doing 24 hours a day.

This is absolutely my favorite Jim Carrey movie - it's not the funniest, but the ending is absolutely *perfect,* and Carrey is a natural fit for the role. I love how the In-Universe audience is just as on-board with Truman leaving as we, the viewing audience, is, and the fact that we don't see what happens to Truman after he leaves is the entire point - it's now his life to live as he sees fit.

Have not seen this in a long time. The idea of following an individual's life from birth for tv is amazing. How it could be interesting every day is a farce. Without the creator's guidance how could it be worth watching......every reality show today. BJ you have a hilarious static chuckle. Cool.

Ed Harris was also in The Abyss, which you just watched. Another movie he was in is called "A History of Violence" It's a lesser known movie, but is pretty great. You should watch it! 👍

The most amazing part though, is right before Truman meets his father again, when his friend is talking to him about finding him. Truman starts tearing up, not because of his friends speech, but because he realizes his best friend in the world is also in on this deception. And right after that, after Truman figures it out, only then do we, the audience, finally get confirmation of it.

Sometimes movies and stories are allegories. In this case - the corporation (product placement) is more important than the person, which is quite the American theme.

I've always really liked this movie but I have to admit that I do wish there was some indication of Christof (the show's creator) facing repercussions for almost killing Truman (and being willing to do so). Instead, he gets to have a little "god" moment at the end, talking to Truman from the sun. Yeah, sure, Truman walks out anyway, Christof's show is over, etc. but Christof presumably just gets to revel in his overall success, be celebrated for making the show (and f-tons of money), and sit back and think, "What a piece of art I created" instead of facing some sort of comeuppance. For me, it's kind of infuriating and dampens the good vibe of Truman taking charge of his own life and walking out into an actual, private life. I know it's not the point and, admittedly, it would be hard to squeeze that moment in at the end without stepping on Truman's exit but, man, even just a quick ADR'd line from offscreen about authorities wanting to talk to Christof just before Truman says goodbye would've been enough.

Who's watching him? Everybody! When he saw behind the elevator...craft services. The travel agent taking her bib off...she had to rush out of make-up. So many clues.
