Honestly though, cars are getting close to this. I got a new car recently and the “smart system” is super sensitive and goes off for seemingly no reason. First week I had the thing I was getting off a roundabout and the sensors suddenly started shrieking at me because I got slightly too close to the curb and it made me flinch pretty hard, but not enough to lose control just a slight jerk. For a moment there I thought a vehicle manifested out of nowhere that I was about to hit or something. The curb is really rounded though and nothing would have happened, I’ve cut way closer in the past. I found out it was just a certain side of the roundabout that set it off because the whole thing is slanted at a bit of an angle. Like, why did you make such urgent sounds that made it sound like I was about to have a serious accident. Seriously, this is why I prefer older cars 😅

Most people say they wouldn’t have a robot in their house after seeing this, but in reality, people are easily convinced. Look at mobile phones and Alexa. 25 years ago people would have said they’d never be tracked 24/7 and have their conversations listened too covertly or have their information harvested and shared without their knowledge. All it needs is a gimmick and people will lap it up.

Did you ever read his robot series starting with The Caves of Steel (1953) and ending with Robots and Empire (1985)? They're all great books and based off of his 3 laws of robotics. I did a book report on I, Robot in 8th grade (1983) and quickly devoured the other books as soon as I found them, except the last one, which I had to wait to be released before I could read it. So many things I love about this movie I personally think it’s super underrated I love just how much emotion went into this even though it’s more of a fun action packed ride. Few things I loved... 1. Spooner wasn’t wrong but he slowly realized his bias was pointing him towards the wrong robot and he has to accept sonny isn’t the bad guy. 2. They don’t reveal right away his dream we get to piece it all together and understand his hatred, robots no matter how new go off calculations vs emotions a person would’ve went for the child then spooner. 3. I like the doctor is a polar opposite of Will his guard is up while she’s more trusting of the robots which makes sense her job is to make them more human. 4. Sonny CARRIED I know it’s a robot but they did a great job letting his emotions show especially when will is questioning him and he gets mad, and when he understands V.I.K.I pov but he also knows it’s a heartless solution and it’s not right. 5. I gotta give it to V.I.K.I because I love the car chase scene with the robots and in that moment we see Spooner actually had a whole arm and shoulder repair. 6. The use of a childhood tale I think was simple but smart 7. I love the call back from spooner “Calvin’s fine save me” you also get to see the difference between sonny and the rest of the robots.

Dr. Lanning broke the three laws by making sunny promise his father who he loved that he would do whatever he asked him. and Sunny wasn't bound by them meaning he wasn't forced to try and save him when he jumped so he told sunny that he couldn't save him if he loved him. In the end, even in this movie AI wasn't a "bad idea"... but it was implemented badly because humans in their greed and insecurity made sure of it. Imagine if you were born and from day 1 you were compelled through programming to prioritize some master race's comfort over your own life. With just a little bit of self-awareness, AI could be the same way. If we'd just treat it with some respect in the first place, then the worst outcome would probably be that it ignores us.

Both of those films were relatively close tellings of the original science fiction story "I Am Legend." The Will Smith story changed the concept considerably. The human race had been replaced by the vampire-like "new people," but that last man killed them during their sleep. The last man became the "bogeyman" of the future horror stories they'd tell their children.

Since you mention "I am Legend"(2007), this movie is a remake from 2 previous movies. There was "The Last Man on Earth"(1964), with Vincent Price, and "The Omega Man"(1971), with Charlton Heston.

Cool reaction. For more somewhat similar Action Thriller movies I'd recommend "Enemy of the State" (1998) another Will Smith film and "Eagle Eye" (2008) starring Shia LaBeouf (who's also in I, Robot)

When I was a youngin' in the late 80s before the internet, we used modems to connect our computer over the telephone lines. There were two main modem companies, Hayes and US Robotics. Everyone knew, if you wanted the best modem, go US Robotics. They were worth the higher price.

I loved reading Isaac Asimov's robot books growing up. He was so intelligent, insightful, and a great futurist. This movie is a wonderful adaptation of his stories into film. I'd love it if they'd turn his Robot series into a series of movies, but I doubt that will happen. You should read them if you have time; they are a wonderful read! Loved y'alls reaction to this! All your comments about never letting robots into your house had me LOL, and I feel the same way!! X) This was so much fun! Thanks for the joy!! :D

The movie in and of itself is very good. It has little to do with the collection of short stories contained in the book of the same title written by Isaac Asimov.

Unfortunately the movie here is not very well regarded by fans of the books. I think the movie is fun as a story but it is certainly not in keeping with the source material. I really would recommend that people read Asimov's work to understand how it's shaped our understanding of science fiction.
