I would love a take on how the green revolution can be attained without further exploiting the countries that contain the minerals needed for the transition. These same countries are already suffering twofold, one from our destabilization and from the effects of climate change. Or how do we reconcile the issue with the Shoshone nation's protest of a lithium mine on their land but support the banning of keystone...either way we further marginalize this group and as you know anytime extraction services enter indigenous land here in the US is worsens the socio economic condition of nearby res populations.

You might want to give the Freakonomics podcast “is economic growth the wrong goal?” a listen. They interview the author of Donut Economics about their theories and how they’re currently applying them in a few cities. I think it’s one of the most useful things that we can implement currently which countries are likely to be open to. Maybe not the final answer but I do think that it’s a good place to start.
@ShieTar_

The key to resolving this perceived problem is to not let yourself be pressed into overly binary thinking patterns. A lot of engineers & scientist who talk about a "green revolution" seem to think that the current, often wastefull, lifestyle of the upper classes may not be questioned, and the only relevant questions are about how to generate the energy and materials that support this lifestyle. In reality, a broad range of lifestyles are possible, many of which do not rely on the consumption of materials & energy that some of us consider "normal" today. There are some obvious wastefull behaviours that can be given up with no real impact on our quality of life: Excessive long-range traveling - before CoVid, I was often asked to board a plane and travel for 6 hours (each way) just to be in a meeting "in case" my managers needed the team scientists point of view. Now I just put on headphones and listen in on tele-conferences, and in my experience, exactly zero meetings have failed their purpose due to the lack of physical co-location so far. So business flying seems a very obvious waste to stop immediately. Excessive short-range traveling - Commuting seems to be a widely accepted "normal" behaviour these days, but why should it be? Why would it make sense for a person to live & work at two places that are too far removed from each other to walk the distance daily? This seems to be annother topic we may resolve in the wake of the CoVid situation, since more & more companies may become willing to release their centralised control over the workforce, and allow distributed contributions, either by the "home office" approachs for virtual workers, or hopefully by a "distributed manufacturing" approach yet to be established. Commercial Lighting - Even late at night, a lot of business sites are kept heavily illuminated, just for a imagined advertising effect ... which of course is entirely neutralised when everybody is doind the same thing. And is not a useful behaviour from a communal perspective in any way. And of course, this behaviour just escalates around the christmas / roman new year period, when not only the electrical lighting get's much more excessive, but some people also revel in launching explosives into the sky because the flashs & bangs are considered entertaining by some, who somehow do not consider the much more impressive capabilities of modern CGI to be an appropriate replacement for it. Maybe the second biggest one - wasting heat & cold. To this day, I'm not aware of a commercial solution that combines the heating & cooling requirements in a home. Fridges & AC units tend to just dump their waste heat into the environment, while heaters, boilers & stoves generate their heat from electricity like there was no waste heat available anywhere. Centralized concepts of heat distribution & storage can actually achieve much more than just replacing the electrical source for heat generation from a fossile source to a "regenerative" one (that is still using up silicon, lithium & copper). Definitely the biggest one - the hirarchies: Politicians & Managers that consider themselves so important that they need to constantly travel the world to make political declarations about the future of their country/company/mankind/whatever. Armies that constantly travel the world just to destroy civilian infrastructure based on some bronce-age concepts of good & evil, just to declare that there is a new evil now they are done with (or have given up on) the old one. Billionaires spending millions on getting shot to space just for fun. Scientists making the public spend millions, so they can research the impact of low gravity on the growth of some random plants, in the hope they won't get as much flag for it as the billionaries that go to space for fun. But if all those concepts seem to big for you - take it one step at a time. Whenever you have the time & motivation for it, consider any action you are planing on doing, in terms of - How much energy & ressources will this take, and how does that compare to me having a home and eating regularly. Because for just about everybody who has the time to write & read comments on KZbin, just getting rid of the obviously excessive stuff will already get the planted into a much more sustainable future very quickly.

Yea, they pretty exclusively support the rich white farmers. And even then, they forget about them quickly after they’re in office. @laurice8056
@laurice8056 2 жыл бұрын
In addition to the reasons stated in this video there’s another reason why Black farmers are dwindling. Lack of a Will or a Trust and fractional family ownership of their land. Greedy developers and unscrupulous investors have bought millions of acres of land worth billions from Black families for pennies on the dollar. Most of the family members may be spread out across the country and not even be aware that their land is still occupied and farmed by some other members of their families. They may not have ever seen their property or realize it’s true value. Generational wealth is forever loss literally for chicken change. Furthermore, sometimes the Government obtains the land by imminent domain for development of highways, railways and other infrastructure. The Government has also allowed corporations and wealthy investors to claim imminent domain for developmental purposes too.

Great video! It reminds me of the old joke; one day two young fish are hanging out and an old fish swims by. "How's the water today, boys?" the old fish says as he swims by. Baffled, one of the young fish asks the other, "What's water?" In the USA racism is the water we swim in. Many well meaning and otherwise educated, intelligent people genuinely don't see racism when they look around because it's the status quo default situation in which they've lived their whole lives. It's the air they live in, the water they swim in.

Not much to do with race, but I really think we should be taking a hard look at vertical farming with passive lighting solutions. With our current food production, using vertical farms instead of traditional agriculture would mean saving two thirds of our current agricultural land use. This is land that could be rewilded, used for recreation, and to provide sanctuary for indigenous peoples and wildlife across the globe.

Thank you: many important points in this video, which absolutely has a great deal to do with addressing climate disruption. A couple of times the land being "twice stolen" is mentioned, but none of the calls to action included explicit reference to learning from, solidarity with, and seeking justice for First Peoples. Pursuing justice in a land still bearing the wounds of centuries of chattel slavery has also wrestle with the fact that the same land still bears the wounds of dispossession and genocide. This is very difficult, but crucial. So, at the risk of telling an excellent creator what they ought to do next, can I put in a humble request for a future video on land back and decolonisation?

You called people of European ancestry “white”, African ancestry “black” but American ancestry “First Nations” (I assume you’re Canadian)? People from Asia are Asians, people from the Polynesian areas are Polynesian but Europeans and Africans just get a color? Please consider updating your concept from inaccurate colors to race. You wouldn’t call Asians yellow or NAs red now would you? I realize those are accepted terms but it doesn’t make them the best to use either. Same with First Nation. It’s not accurate. Thank you for addressing the core issues of what the US had done since history. As a citizen, I am ashamed for the what the country had done and they still continues to do so. The European/white settlers that first settled on this very land were also immigrants of this very nation since they technically stole this land after wiping out majority of the Native Americans. To top that, immigration laws were made to sway toward white supremacists' favor when this country propose to be a "diverse country" with no main official language at its' core. Then why continue to make the immigration laws even more difficult/complex when the country want to be known as a "diverse nation?" An unfair irony indeed! 😤 P.S.: This comment was accidentally deleted in the past by myself. I wanted to respond to another commenter of my comment, and the person happens to be a racist calling me a racist. A psycho indeed! Nobody is responsible for their race's past or grandfather's misdoings. We can learn from the past to do better. We can not repay all the wrongdoings of the past.

Even though I generally agree with the underlying message and the sentiments of most of your videos (and I keep watching them), I do think that so heavily loading each and every video with the same "standard rhetoric" and keywords does disservice to getting the message across to the wider public - especially new viewers. The amount of subscribers and likes and dislikes of course seem very favourable, but this may just be an indication of an "echo chamber" developing. While most people do agree that social injustices exist and need to be corrected, far fewer see (e.g.) capitalism as an absolute evil that needs to be somehow demolished. If every video is laden with revolutionary message and heaps guilt on people who don't associate the (current or historical) events and realities with themselves, it becomes a lot harder to get through to them. Just something to consider.

I'm curious who you think this is meant to make feel guilty. If you're empathizing with slaveowners and racists to the point that learning about American history makes you feel guilt, then you need to work on yourself.

@@Treebark1313 I wasn't talking about a personal point of view. Public attitudes and structures within society can be improved upon without the need to find a "guilty party" behind every issue. It is precisely the point that there are plenty of people wanting to institute positive change but don't feel they are personally responsible for ill deeds of their ancestors. My concern was about not getting the message across if it is made unpalatable to Joe Public, and it wasn't only about this video but the channel in general (and also applies to their Second Thought channel). Make of it what you will. Keep calm and carry on.

Many good points, several things I would disagree strongly with. But In general, I strongly approve of increased small-scale domestic agriculture, especially if it will be a way of increasing the wealth and opportunity of dispossessed people. However, I strongly believe in private property, so it would be appalling to see that land collectivized. But I understand this channel is not exactly for those of us that believe in private property.

@@108nighthawk Lol then you don't know how modern farming works. Let alone the private property you clearly don't actually have. A handful of mega conglomerates control everything on the farm and own everything on it. All you have is a scrap of paper that says the land is temporarily yours, if you can keep paying off your debts to the actual owners. 95% of private property is owned by mega conglomerates. At best you might have a small plot of housing you own for the moment(assuming you aren't in debt of course). That's as close as you get to private property.
