I had a diesel car with start/stop system, in -17 degrees celsius it stopped the engine at a red light less than a mile after start up. This is extremely bad for the engine but it could be turned of after every start up if I remembered to do so. In Sweden they ran a test on urban vehicles for a year and the estimated fuel savings were a mere 4-5 litres. This whole video must have been produced be green enviromentalitsts.

This is cheer leading for a system most consumers do NOT want and look to bypass it if possible. I do not like auto stop/start. The one vehicle we have with this feature has the most soot-covered tailpipe I have ever seen. I suspect that the fuel saving accrues to the manufacturer's CAFE score to a higher degree than to the consumer. I now buy HD diesel trucks to avoid auto stop/start entirely.

an awful amount of money and research went into adding the dumbest component to an already over complicated, parts intensive power train. take that starter motor, increase the size, add a big battery and you have the solution to pollution, wasteful use of energy, and a cheap to maintain power plant.

Its extremely annoying, the engine shuts off just when you need power... That two second delay causes me to miss my opportunity to safely get into traffic. I can't stand these environmentalists. I wish we can legislate the most annoying expensive mandated stuff imaginal upon them for equal suffering...

More robust batteries, hi performance starter motors, ecu, computers. All that to theoretically save nature, some money, fuel... Nonsense

It and I say it because it was AI talking, anyway it kept saying wear on engine components and never actually mentioned actual engine components.

Exactly. Who cares about the starter alternator and battery. The problem is the wear on the engine which is crazy. Modern engines wear out quickly enough in part due to manufacturers silly engine oil changing recommendations. The last thing you should do to an engine is repeatedly start it and stop it. This video is pure propaganda for the net zero brigade.

@GraemeBeardsley completely agree.
