As a fellow vet tech I get the question from people A LOT “Oh you’re a vet tech, are you studying to become a veterinarian?” and my answer is NOPE. And it’s not because I don’t wanna go through schooling or I don’t think I am capable, it’s simply because I LOVE being a technician/vet assistant. It is so hands on with all the technical things and it’s an EXTREMELY important role in vet med. I love it so much and am 100% content with my position as a vet tech.

it's interesting to see how different schools are in different countries. In the Netherlands there are a few educations to be a vet technician and they're all really different. we have a lot of internships in clinics, a lot of tests to make before we graduate. it's a 4 year education in college and not a lot of people are going to work as a vet tech. most of the students do the education and learn to become something else like a veterinarian or something completely different.

I am still studying ECED, but now I am actually gaining experience in what I aim to start working towards, instead of studying ECED and working on the product versus the process, which could look like getting myself experience working at a center. When it came down to it, after applying for so many positions and getting a few offers... I turned them all down, because I wanted to spend my time with animals instead of children (sorry little ones) I think I led with my gut on this one and that it wasn't an impulse, but also maybe it was

If you become a technician, you can always go on and become a doctor afterwards, especially if you find you love the field and enjoy studying. The tech experiences will help you become a better doctor in the long run. But if you invest all the time and money that it takes to become a vet doctor and then don't like it, you'll really be stuck. That's my perspective :)

You don’t know bad smells until you’ve had a dog eat it’s own diarrhea, then throw it up. I work in a kennel and that probably happens like once a month? You can identify that a mile away, it’s so BAD

What do you think about the RVN initiative? Would be a great idea for a vlog. From an RVT in California :)
@Brendavstwo5 жыл бұрын
glotheworm I actually agree with it, for sure believe the team can work better when everyone is educated. Even for people like myself get Into the field to become doctors, you don’t have to be a Vet Tech, you could work as a vet assistant/ kennel/ volunteer and get experience that way! For sure a great topic! Thank you for the idea!!!

I have a question do you have to go to university to become a vet nurse or can you do apprenticeships while in school yr 10-12 or do you have to get your certificates through vet school since I have always wanted to be a vet nurse and just wanted to know the best way to be a vet nurse.

Staralexis58 Yt this depends on the state. We are trying to move away from on the job training to requiring a formal education. Keep an eye on NAVTA and AVMA articles regarding this! As of right now some states allow vet assistants/on the job technicians to do the same things as an RVT/CVT/LVT. So some places allow you to do the job without schooling. However, a lot of people are starting to advocate for attending an AVMA accredited vet tech program, graduating, and taking your necessary boards.

The vtne is extremely easy, study the basics and don’t slack and it’ll be fine.

How do you shadow first? Do you just ask the hospital if you can volunteer?

Hi! I wanted to ask for your opinion. I also want to become a vet and was applying to vet school but sadly I didn't meet some requirements so I'm trying to think of ways to still continue my education as well as be on the path to reapply to vet school. I did think of going to get certified as a vet tech then reapply a year after. I wanted to know your opinion and your thought process of becoming a vet tech even though you know you want to become a veterinarian.

How do you go from a vet tech to a Veterinarian? Can you apply straight to vet school or you have to start over and do 8 years?

You guys should help me figure out the best vet colleges to apply to I’ve been wanting to do this ever since I was little and I’m having a hard time finding good schools ☹️

So you became a vettech by being cross trained? I'm asking because I'm becoming a vettech in Germany and I want to move to the states in the future, but all I know is, that my 3y. apprenticeship isn't 'accepted' in the states... I'm struggling with that for so long now.. 🙄

Do you just go straight to vet tech school or have to go to coollege then vet school
@simplecontinuous23434 жыл бұрын
Arlettbeauty124 if you want to be a vet tech, you can go straight to a vet tech program. If you want to be a veterinarian, it’s actually not recommended to go to vet tech school (unless you’re taking years off to get finances in order) because it’s extra money and most vet programs don’t count vet tech courses towards your vet school application prerequisites. So usually vet school applicants (pre-vets), will pursue a bachelors degree in biology, animal science, etc. (but it can be in anything as long as you get those prerequisites!) and then apply.

Around how much money does the average vet tech make? Is working in the city better pay? Why is there a lot of debt for vet techs?

Currently getting my bachelor’s in Agribusiness even though most my childhood I wanted to work in the veterinary field. In theory, if I finish this degree and then go to school and become a CVT, and if my state laws allow, could this background prepare me to open my own practice?

are you guys allowed makeup and nails? my current vet tech school says we are not allowed makeup and will not be allowed makeup in the field!

Thanks for sharing this video. Can you be a Vet Tech without the two or four year degrees?
@cjbaby15ify2 жыл бұрын
In the UK you just need a level 2 or 3 animal care qualification, but it's only minimum wage or just above.

Is it easier to learn while working in the field without school or or just school and field afterwards?
@Brendavstwo5 жыл бұрын
Dominique Pryor Like Ruba mentioned in the video, if your in school it makes it easier if you are also working at a practice! But it really depends on your learning style

I recently find this world of vet tecs and vet assistant and it was perfect for me cause I didn't want to become a veterinarian. I was wondering, cause I can't go to school soon(money) ¿which text books would you recommend me to read? I don't want to start the program without theory knowledge 😅

How do you get a job as a veterinary receptionist? I am currently an ophthalmic tech for humans for 20 years but would like to switch fields. I still have to work but would like to get into vet tech or assistant. School here is expensive so I need to work some where
