I loved this video! i’m a tech student and people don’t talk about how to expand and move up the scale as a tech enough. it’s always encouraging seeing techs expanding and being appreciated! :)

Thank you, and I agree! I recently read somewhere that people that stay with the same job for a long time are more likely to make less money than people who take new opportunities as they come up. Employers are more likely to offer pay increase to new employees than to existing ones. So keep that in mind!

I work as a cna at a hospital and starting school soon for vet tech and salary is one thing I was worrying about. Working with animals is one thing I've always wanted to do

This is something I wish more people talked about. I’ve been very hesitant to go into vet med because of the salary… but it’s always been in the back of mind that I have seen people do well in this career and that the salaries are definitely increasing, are are expected to excel in the upcoming years!

It sucks that people are dissuaded from doing something they are interested in due to poor pay because the field needs people so badly. Hopefully we can get the field to the point where this is not the case anymore!

@@jenniferlyonsvts I am deciding between PTA school and VT school and the decison is so hard for me, I want to help both people and animals. Both programs are the same amount of time and the same cost, but sadly Vet tech as a job is so low paying compared to PTA that I may chose PTA solely based off that 😢if they need people so bad, I wish they would pay more and show more appreciation towards their techs that they need more of! It's disappointing 😢

This was very insightful! I've been working with animals for 5+ years and have my veterinary assistant certification. However, i live in a small town and most clinics/hospitals require veterinary experience How do they expect the field to grow if they refuse to offer employment to introductory experience. Any advice? :/

It can be hard to get your foot in the door. I recommend just talking directly to the managers as many people are open to training new hires even if they don’t directly say so in hiring ads.

I’m not very familiar with Canadian vet tech regulations, but here is a website that may be helpful. www.canadianveterinarians.net/public-resources/careers-in-veterinary-medicine/registered-veterinary-technician-technologists/
