I think it's important for people to understand that when we decided to run this video we distinctly wanted to run it as apolitical. Like any other video on this channel it aims to inform, motivate, and teach but we also recognize the moment. Our aim is to always bring people together and promote communication. All we desire is for people to understand it goes beyond protests. Huey P Newton once said “The Struggle for Freedom, Justice, and Equality Transcends Racial and National Boundaries” Our goal is to promote that very idea but first we have to recognize each other and understand that being different is OK. Having different ideas is ok. So keep it casual here. We simply couldn't stay quiet and we didn't want to put out something that was just "we support". That's too easy. We want to motivate, appreciate, and educate. That's what this is all about. It's ok this was a TL;DR for you. Just wanted to make it clear.

When people say culture in American KNOW they are talking about Ethnic groups. White people made the term BLACK CULTURE it was used as a method of fear and division. UNDERSTAND you have to know what defines a culture. A culture is agreed laws, norms, values, language, arts, music and possibly but not exclusive ethnic identity and religion( that means you can have multiple ethnic groups and share the same culture). How does the word culture reference or applicable to black people in america. Black Americans share the same culture as white Americans. So where did this term come from... white people who used it to say you dont want that culture in your neighborhood but what they are referring to is ethnic group but when you say culture it just as a non existent variable and it leave the person to imagine what that culture might be. When i hear black people say black culture it shocks me that they have accepted that form of division, when they really mean black ART or History etc... do not use the term black culture unless you are referring Africans or societies like Haiti.

There is no monolithic Black Culture. Black Culture is a term that was created by Black Americans because thats who it refers to because in America "Black" is an specific ethnic group who are descendants of the original founding population. Caribbean cultures are different and unique to Caribbeans as the same with various African Cultures. So when you hear "Black Culture" it means Black American Culture.

As a Filipino-American growing up in the inner city, Hip Hop raised me. I took so much inspiration and happiness from the black culture. For anyone else who has, you need to be involved with the movement. The real question is what do we do when the protests end and when everything simmers down? There has always been a cycle of injustice, anger, protest, cool down, inaction, repeat. This is just the beginning of change. Educate yourselves. If you're from the states or any other country with systemic racism, get involved in politics. Sign petitions, call your local representatives, etc. Do not operate under the notion that posting your involvement through social media is enough. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". Let's do better. Thanks for this Reggie.

Stereotypes have been used and abused throughout history. Every culture has been a target at some point and time. Black culture has some amazing aspects to it. As American as it gets. Many are so proud of their ancestors and culture. The Italian culture is one that is so strong among most Italians as is black culture is to them as Jewish culture is to their ways. Each culture has become a diverse thread that’s made America what it is and needs to be celebrated with pride. At the end of the day we’re all Americans first and foremost. I don’t know why but I feel like the only link you make between black culture and Africa is just that black culture originated from african slaves. That’s all. For some black culture is just how it evolved in Africa. But it also evolved in Africa. Except I’m wrong, you talked of Africa in the beginning but all the pictures representing “black culture” where Black Americans. I mean BLACK CULTURE IS NOT JUST BLACK AMERICAN CULTURE. I’m black too but I don’t feel like Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks or Michael Jordan are related to me and my culture as a black man. I’ve been in Europe, and it’s really disgusting when all I here is “man you should be really proud of your history, like all what you black people did, Jazz, hip hop, basketball and all ” or people talking to me about Obama, MLK, and Marshal and I’m “Fuck I’m from Cameroon, MLK means nothing to my history and my culture as a black man, Rosa parks neither. Jazz, Michael Jordan, Malcom X. All there means nothing to me as a black man. But those are what the Whole world see as BLACK CULTURE. And I say that should stop! Black culture is not just America. You’ll rather precise and say Black American culture but don’t stand for the whole BLACK CULTURE, if all you can talk about is Obama, MLK or Rosa Parks.
@THECASUALco3 жыл бұрын
You make a good point there. Black Culture isn't just AMERICAN black culture. I've had this convo several times with Black individuals from different places on earth. However, I think its's important to not that you should definitely consider black Americans as part of the equation into the "Black Experience". You claim these Black Americans have nothing to do with your experience but expect black people in general to know about OTHER black individuals who are not American. See the issue here? I think the best thing is to be mindful but also recognize that people are different and have different experiences. I'm a black American of mixed descent who lives in Tokyo, Japan. My experience simply does not match with many Americans black or not. However I try to be mindful of what I say and do. It doesn't always work out but that's human. So I take it all in as much as I can to be more informed.

Facts, Real Talk; Word, Snatched ("on Point"), No Cap, Reggie. Due to the vast geographical African-American (and/or Afro-Latino, Caribbean, Brazilian, French, English) diaspora, it is influential to many people (like Elvis (Presley), Madonna, Teena Marie, the Beastie Boys, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Iggy Azalea (an Aussie with a "blaccent" or Awkwafina (a Asian musician/actress) ), via: hairstyles (braids, cornrows, dreadlocks) that need special treatment, music (r&b, blues, hip hop/rap, jazz, reggae, hip hop, rap), food (like creole, BBQ items, (southern) soul food), language (AAVE: African American Vernacular English or "ebonics"), humor (Richard Pryor, Paul Mooney, Redd Foxx, Dick Gregory, Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Moms Mabley); dress (breakin' (b-boy, b-girls); street wear like Supreme), dances (like the Harlem Shake, the Dougie, breakin') or basketball shoes (1980's Air Jordan ones (from Nike) ). it is good to know about the struggle and conflict of what African-American people go through, that may happen daily: when one gets beat up (brutality), get arrested and be put in the back of a police squad car, for no reason at all. when one tries to hail a yellow taxi cab, but the cab passes you by. Black people are not monolithic. "Black magic" or (Haitian) "voodoo" in films could be protrayed to be "bad," due to ignorance and/or the fact that one does not want to understand it (through ethnic studies or anthropology (old religious studies) Stories of people maybe ignored, or not written down through the oral history from the elders, to a newer generation (like "Hidden Figures" (a 2016 film): 3 African-American females who helped the NASA space program, in the 1960's). There are some people that say that in a rap song: "oh, I'm from the hood (the urban "inner cities/ghettos") ," but they really live in the suburbs, within a "safe" gated community. Squash that nonsense/B.S. Two films that pop in my head: "Malibu's Most Wanted" and "Fakin' The Funk."

As an asian-american who loves the music, fashion, activisms, and so many other things the black community has brought to our society, it is important to see the people behind this work. To quote Mooney in Chappelle Show: "Everybody wanna be a nigga but nobody wanna BE a nigga" Black lives matter just as much as any other, and black culture doesn't get enough credit for what it's contributed to the world despite the Jordans you wear or the Kendrick Lamars people karaoke. Modern musicis heavily influenced by the freeform nature of Jazz.

Well said 👏 I wish we could get along there are meny things at play that won't let that happen be it media. Government or even movies or just distrust and hatred for the past without those things maybe we have an opportunity to make some real strides towards tolerance and acceptance 🤔

Everyone is racist, no matter what they think, what they say, or what they do, people are just that superficial, and it's not gonna change. It's disappointing, I know, but that's how this bloody reality works. That's why art, music, and fashion are so great, as they somehow help us avoid the reality.
