It is tho lol he masks it very well but completely lost me at the end with the Demar angle. Melo was for sure “one of those guys” and for sure a legit 1a. The closest thing he had to a complete roster in 2009 he took a prime and eventual champion kobe to 6 tough games. That Denver team would for sure have beaten Dwight and them. That’s how close melo was to being a champion with a good but not great roster.

Melo is the classic number 2 option forced into a number 1 role imo. With a Phil Jackson-esque coach to keep his ego in check, I think Melo could’ve been a Pippen-type player. But somehow GMs think they have the guy as their number one when they SO CLEARLY do not. Examples in the modern NBA: Trae Young, Demar DeRozan (for a while, ik he finally got traded), Zion Williamson, Devin Booker, Jimmy Butler

I don’t think people realize that basketball is a job for these players. Sure, you can have a legacy and be remembered for winning championships, or you can make millions of dollars on mid or bad teams where you can get your shots up and keep your value high. People give melo hate for choosing the money and his own personal stats, but that’s how you get the big contracts. At the end of the day, he’s made millions on millions of dollars to play a game most of us stopped playing competitively after high school at the latest.

Regarding the “All-NBA” thing, Melo played in an era where he had to compete against the likes of LeBron & KD both early in their careers and into their prime years. There’s only 3 spots for an “All-NBA” Small Forward and they both played Melo’s position. So yea, considering the fact that he’s going up against 2 Top 5 SF for over a decade straight, most ppl would struggle to make an “All-NBA” team for Small Forwards at all. Let alone 1st.

I’m not a lebron hater but can we please stop these excuses. Yes the spurs were a better team but it wasn’t like they were completely out matched. Games 3 and 4 were 1 possession games. Games 1 and 2 were decided by 10 to 11 points. Let’s stop the Revisionist history, The Cavs were a defensive team and their front court did their job. Duncan who was playing the 5. Only shot 44%, and they kept the ball out of his hands with ginobli and Parker both having higher usage rates then him. Ginobli shot 36% from the field he only had it going from the 3 that series and the line. Lebron couldn’t outlay tony Parker that’s what it was. Bron had a 42% TS, splits of 36/29/69, and barley averaged over 20 with 22 a game with a 36 usage %. He’s why they lost

Execution matter. Melo was self determined. Only can go so far when you have 4 other guys. He will make hall of fame cause of his connection. But overall. I'm not putting bro in the Hall of Fame

@@premium7182 Re read what I said. Self determined stats. Horrible playoffs in his career. Hella shots per game. Non consitnet. Took max contract to only go to a trash team. College DONT matter in this conversation

Top 3 most overrated player of all time. Melo is a bonafide bum. He had decent teams and did absolutely nothing. He only scored points. Didn't make his teams better in any way. SMH.

Don’t agree with your takes. You cherry picking stats from when he was 19-24 years old. Still making it to the playoffs. Melo never had true solid team around him.

He def did in 09 and if he wasnt press to go to NY during the trade deadline in 2011 causing them to gut the team instead of him just waiting 5 more months to join a more complete version of that knicks squad , also he had a chance to go to Chicago in 2014 with Butler , Rose and Pau …so he’s had chances to have solid teams and he’s had solid teams , this legendary scorer but only has 1 scoring title and no seasons averaging 30 …. Mid defender , good rebounder and hell of a mid range scorer but he’s just not as good as people think he was
