Clark refused to use the "N" word when he played Rhett Butler in gone with the wind. In the scene where Scarlett visits him in jail wearing the velvet drapes in the book Rhett says " you've been working like a "N". In the movie Clark would only say " field hand" among other instances in the book that were not brought out in the movie.

I feel it is worth a note - Clark would go to Haties House on Sunday mornings at times to visit with her and she would fix Clark a late Bkf/Brunch. He was quite close to Hattie. Also - Olivia de Haviland would go visit Hattie at her house often times having lunch together. During those times a Black person and white would not be seen together in public let alone eat together at a restaurant. Many if not all restaurants refused to serve a Black person, regardless of their achievements Clark and Olivia respected Hattie and remained friends with Hattie.

Clark Gable was the only male actor who was admired by his fans and his "enemies" which were few. Man's man, woman't fantasy, he married an older woman, who purposely supported him to help him with his acting goals, knew she was going lose him once he made it big, and still did what Fate required. Unfortunately, Gable's happiness was all about Carole Lombard, a blonde comedic actress successful on her own, but tragedy struck when her plane crashed during WWII when she returned from an Armed Forces event for the troops. This was when he was a pilot in the war. It changed him for the worse, and his drinking increased, and his desire for life was depressed. A piece of trivia: Gable would write checks for EVERYTHING, regardless of the cost, like a pack of cigarettes. He would write a check for $.50. How many of those checks with his "autograph" on them, were cashed? Almost none. LOL

We have to do better in the future.

Lol This is true. I could easily pass and most time white or Hispanic folks ask me am I Spanish or assume I’m white . While black folks will ask me or assume I’m black. My cousin also had this issue. I remember living across the street from a navy family with two children, one blond (girl)and one sandy blonde hair( boy). One day we are all outside talking and her son was running around her. This was the first time I had seen him so close and I told my mom that he was looked black to me although he could pass , I knew he had to be. Let’s just say , in less than a year, the husband leaves (likely deployed) and her friend starts to visit often. I’ll let you guess what father, I mean the friend looked like. What’s even more interesting is that she said that she had Indian in her family. Sigh, I guess that’s easier to accept.

Growing up, i never thought Gable was handsome…but as i’ve grown older (😢), and watching your documentary…he really was a stunning man, and I can see (now) that he could have had some black ancestry. Edris Elba, be still my ❤️

Point : Marion davies had affairs with most of her leading men ..... Lombard knew what she wanted ..& went after it......Hattie was an out spoken Woman & she created that character on screen in her films ... They do 2 films prior to GWTW......Loretta Young also had affairs with other men being Catholic.... just some small facts ....& just my opinion 😊

My tanned friend from Brazil was asked "what was she doing with a white person"? Then I told her, they consider "tanned" people black. She was completely frustrated saying: I'm not black, I'm white! I guess that was a surprise! I knew about it because it happened twice here in the USA with another brown friend. In my whole life I never cared about race. Then I did a DNA test and found I'm related to King Richard III of England. Life is full of surprises. I told the Richard III society and they said there are a lot of claims like mine. I'm sure royalty has been sleeping in other people's beds since it first existed.

We have always been a mixed race. Some of my family members are white some are black some are Chinese some are Indian some are Korean. Asian too. So we really can not claim any race. We just are human race.
