Deleding the EGR or blocking the EGR Pipe to the intake manifold does allways have a positive effect to the engine. Important to know is that the EGR system on all these enginges is only letting exhaust gasses into the intake manifold when you are driving it at partial load range (city) or when the engine is not fully warmed up. EGR is allways closed under full load (highway). Diesel engines with DPF System dont like to be run only in partial load range, because no DPF regeneration can be run under this conditions. But only at partial load conditions the EGR is active. And this is one of the main reasons why so many modern engines break down after only some 100.000km. The costs and emmisions produced because of all the addtional repairs and needed spare parts caused by this ERG "nonsens" outweight the emmision benefits of any EGR system BY FAR.

It is not illegal ro remove the EGR, but maybe commiting an offence to use the vehicle with the EGR removed. Put it this way, many wouldn't be able to tell if someone has deleted the DPF, if done right, same applies to EGR, blanking plate, map out and leave the EGR connected. Removal of the EGR actually reduces the amount of soot and an MOT test for a diesel car measures smoke and soot content. I work in the motor trade and EGR's cause so much problems by the fact that they allow carbon and soot to enter the inlet and all the associated pipe work including the EGR itself.

@@catalinacatalina1474 Yes, car may try more active and passive regen but due to prerequisites (75 degree above engine temp + 10 ltr fuel plus, certain speed limit for a continuous-time), this can be a recipe for disaster unless you drive only on motorways. EGR doesn't just reduce emissions, it actually makes your engine runs cooler, and increases fuel efficiency, which comes with a cost obviously, by using the recirculated 'mixture' it will implicate an less 'cleaner' load into the system, with less potential than a cleaner one, but it will burn cooler, and with less fuel injected to the load. This power loss is sometimes practically unnoticed, this EGR are very effective systems, that help your car being more fuel eficcient and also reduces emissions. Removing it, or keeping it blocked or uncleaned might cause all sorts of problems, being that your engine will run hotter, less fuel efficiency, and more emissions. This delete can be done safely, but the ECU definitely needs to be reprogrammed, and it will have its pros and cons. What I fail to understand is that there's some sort of common sense about EGRs being just for reducing emissions and that recircles unwanted dirt into the motor, if you think this is it, than you know nothing about how these systems really work, and very few knowledge about the mechanical engineering envolved on a combustion motor... inform yourself with valid information and know how before going out saying stuff like this as if you know what you're talking about...

No, DPF will actually be LESS likely to block. EGR is designed to lower combustion temperature and also reduce oxygen levels, however it is difficult to get stoichiometric burn, so with EGR, the exhaust is actually sootier. With full cylinder of fresh air, diesel burns more cleanly hence less smoke,.. and hotter. So your DPF has less soot, is hotter for regen and the turbo should spool up a tiny bit quicker.

MOT can't tell a difference if the egr is blocked or not. Unles there is some clearly visible missing parts. Or a trouble code. Some dont even mesure NOx. For the effect on an engine. For four different engines, all petrol no diesels. Havent noticed a difference, nothing have changed. Only the intake manifold may be not as full of soot.

No guys, don't delete your EGR systems. 1 You won't gain any power. EGR valves only open under low load, when you are not asking your engine for power. 2 You're not introducing anything harmful to your engine. Anything the EGR system puts in your combustion chamber was in your combustion chamber not 1 seconds ago. 3 The EGR system lowers combustion temperature while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption. To put it briefly, if a portion of your cylinder's volume is filled with exhaust, the MAF will detect a reduction of oxygen flow, and the ECU, knowing the EGR is open will advanced your spark and squirt less fuel. Result = less combustion = lower temperature and added efficiency as a benefit. 4 You will reduce your power output. Let's say you do 3 highway pulls with a brief rest of coast/cruise in between each. Your EGR system would have opened during your low load situation, cooling your cylinders as described in point #3. Except now its not! Each successive pull will be slower and hotter.
@RoySki0073 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Efficiency is also lost due to higher pumping loss without an egr during low load situations. And if your combustion chamber is dirty, some cars can even experience light knocking due to much higher combustion chamber temperature.

Mate I'd give your engine a clean, it's a disgrace. The EGR can stay in place, you just block off the required areas with the EGR still in place. Not going to get spotted on a VOSA inspection as it's all there and present. It can also be done purely by software where the ECU is instructed to keep the EGR valve closed at all times. achieving the same thing. You need to mess with the ECU if you do it mechanically anyway as your EML will be on with a ECU fault.
@madfrosty52282 жыл бұрын

I don't have the answer to this, but your question raises an idea. If the EGR system clogs up it's essentially not recirculating gases and essentially self deleted. If anyone wants this hackmod doing to their rover 25 TDI.. let me know.. I invented a better setup. And I will explain it to you in this thread.. But remember this- You HAVE GOT TO use high efficiency coolant, and you MUST let it warm up fully before you thrash it, and you must be mercifull or you will blow it up in seconds.. And no side-steping the clutch either!! or that gearbox casing is done for! If you want the trick, just ask nicely.. You might want a second turbo.. I was to scared to push it. Past 20psi.. But after seeing how far you can push a 1.0l ford fiesta, (190bhp) I wish I had gone harder!

It should only operate below 1500 rpm. The problem is short journeys and stop start traffic. Only get a diesel if your regular driving is more than 10 miles and you can get over 40 mph. Anything slower or shorter doesnt let the exhaust get hot enough to not have carbon build up. Saying that, the attempt to reduce pollution by making you have to clean it out anyway is rather stupid.
