It also saves your inlet manifold and intake (as well as fuel).
@RokoWoju9 ай бұрын
EGR does not increase fuel consumption actually, in fact its primary function is to recirculate exhaust gases back into intake for leftover unburned fumes to be burned further as this this happens emissions are reduced and fuel consumption goes down as a side effect, it is rather small saving but nevertheless it saves fuel - first EGRs were actually used on American petrol engines for grate effect, fany fact recycling those gasses is rather old trick, but it was limited how much gas could be send back to intake again, because at low revs it would choke engine , so when electronics kicked in in cars they could increase or reduce amount of fumes going back to intake depending of engine speed and load - admittedly EGR isn't ideal for diesel engines because of solid particles in it like to stick to things.

I had an unfortunate incident with the MOT and DPF. My son bought a Zafira 1.9, with problems. (MIL light on and complaints about DPF regeneration)I did the work on it and found that someone had cut open the DPF and removed the insides. Then welded it up very badly (it was obvious). They hadn't remapped the ECU, so hence the warning lights. I thought no problem. No DPF, one less thing to go wrong. Got a local tuning firm to re-map it, without the DPF program. Everything was fine until it was MOT time. My son (unwittingly) took it to an establishment that I had, had problems with before. They failed it, because they SAW that the DPF had been tampered with. We had no option (apart from scrapping a 2013 car), but to put a new DPF on it. I took it back to the tuning firm, to have the mapping put back to OE. They did however tell me that they left the EGR program out and were surprised that the MOT place had failed it. So beware, SOME MOT places may 'observe' tampering and act like Greta's goons, and fail you. Of course, it is all on computer record, so other garages may feel obliged to follow suit.

You shouldn't need to. I had N47 and N57 with EGR turned off in map and no issues with DPF.
@stigmarto9 ай бұрын
@@simonh870you donot have to remove the Dpf but it will clog up faster, if you do remove it have it done proper DONOT just put a pipe in its place as this will cause high pressure in the head/s (on the exhaust manifold side)and can (and will) lead to head gasket/turbo issues, same if you do a de-cat, as a rough bodge guide your replacement box should equal your cc 😉

@@stigmarto I found no difference on my BMW's with the EGR blanked as to how the DPF performed. Some say that blanking the EGR actually reduces soot production, as the fuel burns hotter and cleaner...
@stigmarto9 ай бұрын
@@simonh870Yes and no, by blocking off the egr you are forcing the engine to use a clean air/fuel charge all the of time which is good (less soot inlet side) and because it is a almost always colder and therefore more dense inlet charge it has less volume, so to fill the cylinder to volume the engine needs more charge to fill the cylinder up during the "suck" cycle more charge= more bang + soot but more powah!= more heat , and will be cleaner both engine and in exhaust fume (in most cases), however some of the soot left is being deposited in the dpf now insted of re-burnt or collecting up in the egr and breather pipes hence the dpf will clog up faster than normal, particularly in vehicles that do a lot of slow town use, vehicles that get a good regular run/service/decent fuel then probably no issue(I should have said earlier), if you find no difference it is probably because your driving habits suit the engine or you have not owned the vehicle long enough to notice 😉🤣

If you have a mazda 6 2013 and newer and your dash looks like a christmas tree- scbs light, under boost codes, dpf inspec required and the whole limp mode lot, delete the dpf, egr, stage 2 remap then get 300k out of your car and thank me later. Cars are designed to fail because that fits the government narrative for EV and emissions while these parts actually cause more waste and worse emissions as you double the amount of repairs and buying of new cars when your engine tanks. In all fairness skip over a diesel altogether, they are awful but if like us you have one just delete and remap and have a good car life with some super power.

The title is misleading. The EGR system is not actually evil and all vehicles over the last quarter century have some form of it, either through an external system or implemented through the valvetrain so an external valve and pipework is not needed. At first, I was going to give this video a downvote. I actually gave it an upvote, because one of the reasons for removal is the possibility of failure leaking coolant into the engine. My own vehicle had a faulty EGR system. I fitted a restrictor plate as the simplest and cheapest solution, as well as being relatively invisible, doesn't put the MIL on and still allows some of the benefits of EGR.

Why does the EGR fail..?? Why does the DPF fail..?? Because; poor oil/fuel, irregular oil changes and not specific oils used, generally poor maintenance, low temp/distance driving thus the DPF cannot burn off collected grams of soot regularly and change your PCV every couple years..!!! The arrogance from this guy is ridiculous, as with anyone else repeating the same procedure to their vehicles…! I have an friend who’s a MOT vehicle examiner in the SW (Somerset) of England, we’ve spoken many occasions on these emissions control systems and he says he’s failed many vehicles because of people removing those items, he also stated the British government are implementing the latest DPF smoke measuring detector like they’ve had in Holland, Germany and Switzerland already use that measures the exhausted particles…. Then see how wise this removal was to do.!!!

Is what you recommend "every diesel car owner to do" legal in the UK???? In my country, Switzerland, it would be clearly illegal, exposing you to a stiff fine the first time you get caught, to a possible prison sentence the second! Police cars are equipped with exhaust gas sensors, so the risk of getting caught is anything but trivial. So, is it responsible to advise doing such things? May I suggest, if you have a problem with diesel EGRs to try an electric vehicle! They are so much better, and overall cheaper!

I hope you would have a glass breaker if you ever get in a wreck in 1 of those things. If you get a Tesla and something happens to your 12 volt battery up front the doors won't open. If you run over something and damage the battery pack under it you get bar-b-qued! Maybe.

@@ln5747 Never heard that one! You made it up? It is largely (but not totally) wrong. Switzerland has pretty light governments, compared to our neighbors'... and a lot of pragmatism in the application of laws and regulations. I put a plural at government, because, as in the US of A onto which Constitution ours was modeled back in 1847, the states (cantons) have their own sets of laws, and their own government. If we don't like a law, ANY citizen can launch either a referendum (against a freshly voted law), or an "initiative" against a long-existing one... or propose a new one. We vote on a good dozen of such topics every year. To my knowledge, that degree of power to the People exists nowhere else! What we often lightly say in Switzerland is: "everything that is not forbidden is obligatory!" Also, the anthem of my native canton is praising "the love of laws..."! True enough! BUT, in the same verse "...freedom and peace". And that is true, too!
@ln57479 ай бұрын
@@st-ex8506 ultimate power to the people lies with trial by jury, which does not exist in Switzerland as far as I know. Magna Carta was power to the people like nowhere else and doesn't exist in many places - and has certainly been corrupted even in UK/US by sleights of hand by government. Anything else is an illusion of power to the people. And referenda are generally mob rule.
