@CuttinEJКүн бұрын
@, it’s your money, but if I melt an Eagle and a generic round, you can’t tell which is which. That’s because there’s no real difference between them. They’re both just bullion. What should determine whether you “like” them or not is how much weight you can get for your dollars.
@DelasernafamilyКүн бұрын
drives me nuts. I just can't understand why people buy rounds that they like. Who cares what they look like?do people lick it taste it smell it's money that's it. What do people go showing it off or something? Wow, look at it shine. Look how awesomely they struck it. Like most stackers, people stack silver for the lest price possible. Other wise your a collector .Go away
@CuttinEJКүн бұрын
@TravelingStacker, it was an exercise of the mind to demonstrate that you’re not getting any added benefit from Eagles over generic. There’s nothing special about Eagles. They just cost more for no good reason. Like I said, it’s your money. Spend it any way you like. But most people stack silver as a means of protecting their wealth, however much or little that may be. When I mentioned weight, I wasn’t talking about individual rounds. I was talking about the total weight of the stack. For every 7 or 8 Eagles, the difference in price is enough to account for one additional ounce of silver if the money was spent on generic instead. For those of us who don’t have a lot of excess money that we can afford to waste, that’s a big deal. Over the course of several years it’s a really big deal.
@CuttinEJКүн бұрын
@, I’ve said it twice now. It’s your money. Spend it any way you like. But if you’re really trying to stack silver, you’re not doing a very good job by only buying Eagles because of the way they look. Your money. Do as you please.

Even my LCS said I should wait, but I told him that I had the money today and may not later-on. So if you are just a stacker than a collector I would suggest just buying weight versus premium silver. Anyway you have to have a good reason to purchase PMs in the first place.

When eagles were 42.00 + I sold every ASE I could. I could not ignore that side of the near100% premium to not act. The advantage at the time was when these were purchased there was only 2.00 premium on eagles. These days I focus on sovereign coins and bars that I can get with a minimal extra premium. I dont do this necessarily to expect getting it back, but for ease in liquidation. Maples, Brits and Roos can frequently be found for very little over what one might pay for a generic round.

Honestly, i think if you try to sell back generic to a dealer if silver spikes expect that dealers would have to pay back of spot. It will depend on the retail buy demand for silver is at that time or what refineries are paying to melt it down and send to China/India for industrial use (especially if retail demand to buy at those prices drops and everyone is just cashing out or trading up for gold). I think some collectible silver is still worth buying if you are selling directly to collectors. It's all about minimizing premiums on the buy side and maximizing it on the sell side. You would have to market your silver specifically (generic, sovereign, or premium) to what you have and not just donk if all off to a bullion dealer. They will certainly undercut you to ensure their bottom line makes sense to them.

Most stackers who put an emphasis on weight are going to be getting primarily 10oz bars as opposed to 1oz rounds. Note that I say "emphasis", not "Weight Above All Else". The WAAE folks will simply get the biggest, cheapest silver they can, i.e. they'll be buying secondary market kilos and 100oz bars if possible. Let's simply ignore them for our discussion, they won't mind. So when you get your mitts on the spreasheet, run it with ASEs vs 10oz bars, round out with 1oz rounds. Again though, spread. Sure, the buy premium on 10oz is less 1oz, but so is the sell-back. So it may or may not work out being better financially going with 10oz. Ya gotta run the numbers, with the recognition that you are merely PREDICTING future sell-back premium.

Generic Silver rounds all the way, the CHEAPEST silver is what you should buy. A dollar now is worth MORE Than a dollar 1, 2, 5, 10, or 20 years from now when you need to cash out your silver. So if you pay more premium for your silver eagle then later on down the road hoping to get some of your premium back, you will NEVER get back your premium because the value of your $3 premium now is worth more than $3, $5, or even $7 premium 10 years from now. ALSO, the future is uncertain, coin shop might not even care about silver eagle vs round in the future and it all boils down to the price per oz.
