Cyrus is mentioned in the Bible in Isaiah 45:1, Ezra 1:2-4, and Ezra 6:3: Isaiah 45:1 Cyrus is referred to as YHWH's anointed and Messiah. The verse reads, "Thus says YHWH to his anointed, to Cyrus whom I took by his right hand". Ezra 1:2-4 Cyrus's edict is reported, which stated that "Jehovah had charged him to build him a house at Jerusalem". Ezra 6:3 Cyrus's decree is reported, which required that "the foundations of the house should be strongly laid". Cyrus's name appears in the Bible in Hebrew as Koresh, in old Babylonian as Kuras, and in Persian as Kurush.

Persia in Ezekiel 38-39 is not this modern day Iran. Modern day Iran is part of Elam which is going to be destroyed in Jeremiah 49:34-39. The people of Elam get scattered into all nations but Yehovah says he will bring again the captivity of Elam during the latter days. This will lead to the formation of the new Persia that will fight against Israel in Ezekiel 38-39
