There's a phrase you sometimes hear in US political discourse: "It's OK if you're a Republican", along with its acronym, IOKIYAR. It seems the general public just doesn't expect conservatives to be decent human beings and therefore holds left-leaning or left-wing figures to higher standards. While I'm sure no one really disagrees with the idea of holding their own side accountable, it's worth bearing in mind that if you're holding your side to a higher standard without loudly explaining that the other side's behavior is actually worse--you aren't helping your side as much as you think you are.

Why the hell does the Labor party have a right wing?
@GeriatricFan19634 жыл бұрын
Because of Blair.
@zimmerwald19154 жыл бұрын
Any large party will have a left, a right, and a center even as it occupies a left, right, or center within a larger national political space. Labour's classical right wing, the right wing of MacDonald and his political descendants, was historically economistic and trade-unionist as opposed to humanistic and revolutionary. Why does Labour today have the specific right wing it does? Basically because the government under Thatcher bled the militant centers of the classical working class white, bought off the rest by selling them what had been social housing for pennies on the pound, and repeatedly thrashed the Labour Party in election after election. Both the traditional left and the right of Labour were deprived of their social bases, and servile lapdogs of finance rose on the right to take their place.

My sociology tutor at the time who was, a bit of middle class radical, said whoever wins the election it won't make any difference. I didn't believe him, I thought Labour values were so different. He was proved right, over time it didn't make any difference. In fact we ended up with a one party system with no opposition even after Labour lost and there was the Cameron/ Glegg coalition: the Labour party had lost it's soul by then. Corybn was a return to authentic Labour values hence why so many young people supported him and he wasn't young like Blair or Cameron: it was his authenticity that appealed, age was irrelevant and hundreds of thousands joined the party. Starmer is playing a game in keeping everyone powerful onside whilst trying to keep Labour values. Tony Blair should be a lesson for him. I won't be voting for him.
@Uio3eva4 жыл бұрын
Unless Labour support Proportional Representation, then I will gladly vote Labour so I can vote for the Green Party in future, and actually have my voice heard for once in this Banana Republic we unfortunately live in. PR would be good for liberal parties anyway as realistically it would be hard for the Tories to ever hold power again (🤞) considering the fact they always get under half of the vote - left wing coalitions for me, just like New Zealand 👍 Good for electoral participation too, as people will no longer see their vote as not mattering. While we’re at it, make the House of Lords an elected body as well, and have a referendum on the parasitic monarchy. But Labour won’t listen to the three quarters of members who consistently support this - they hold their membership in contempt as is seen by the disgraceful and disgusting way they treated our overwhelming choice for leader Jeremy Corbyn for 5 years, preventing us from winning in 2017 by stabbing him in the back (and the front), and in 2019 by forcing an electorally suicidal Brexit policy. Thats why they will lose in 2024, and they will deserve to. Expand democracy, pursue a Green New Deal, and work with other liberal parties. Simple victory strategy.
@2011dyrose4 жыл бұрын
Agree with most of what you've said, but I don't see what Labour value Starmer is keeping. Human rights, civil liberties and freedom of speech have all been sacrificed in his short tenure. Whatever the values Starmer is going to hold on to are they certainly don't involve the left.

KZbin seems to block direct links, but there is a study [1] in the USA that mirrors the findings in the UK: antisemitism is present in all parts of the political spectrum, but it's lowest on the left, higher in the center, and highest on the right. Even as the individuals on the far-right go and shoot up a synagogue here, the pieces in the media reflect the same 'strategy' employed in the UK, with titles such as "Bernie Sanders has an anti-Semitism problem" [2]. It didn't really take here though, since it was so obviously absurd. But it's obvious that right-wingers will use it in a malicious and selective manner (notice that Johnson's 'the Jews control the media' doesn't get brought up by these folks) for years to come. Great video, as always! Over here in Germany, we have our own problems in politics. Mainly lobbying *cough* *cough* bribery *cough* *cough* and a populace hellbent on political stability, even in times when the status qou leaves everyone dissatisfied. However, whenever I hear of the politics in countries with FPTP, I am thankful for our version of democracy. Germany's Mixed-member proportional representation election system greatly improves our political discourse. We just had an election and the results are.... weird. There's the *CDU* the centre-right party of Angela Merkel, in which corruption runs rampant. They've been at the head of government for most of their existence. They've been gradually losing support for the last two decades or so, but since the Social Democrats tanked, they've been the unopposed biggest party up until 2 Years ago. Now Merkel's moronic successor in the party, Armin Laschet has seen them drop to 24% *The Greens* Being relegated to a 9%-Party for most of their existence, they've surged in popularity since the last federal election, at one point even surpassing the CDU in polls as the biggest party at, like, 29% or something. After nominating their chancellor candidate, Annalena Baerbock, she made a lot of (mostly) minor slip-ups and was consequently smeared by the media, which left them at 15% *The SPD* The oldest party in Germany, coming into existence after WW1, the social democrats once were a great, popular force for the proletariat and a serious contender to the CDU. However, after they led a SPD-Greens-Coalition Governent in the term before Merkel, in which they confusingly made one neoliberal policy after another under chancellor Schröder, they have been steadily declining. Now they've been governing in, what we call the GROKO, under Merkel for 3 of the last 4 terms, the failings of which have accelerated their decline even more, even though the CDU is mostly to blame for them. While their party base is still largely left-wing, even electing two more or less left-wing party leaders (who largely hide from the public thanks to their unpopularity), the party elite is made up of left-leaning centrists. One of those is Olaf Scholz, sitting vice-chancellor, cabinet member of neoliberal Schröder and co-architect of many of his terrible reforms and subject of multiple, dead serious scandals nobody seems to care about. He was the first candidate to be nominated by his party, laughably early, one might add. Nobody expected him to do well, let alone win in this election. Despite all odds, he managed to pull of an electoral victory, mostly by waiting on the sidelines as Laschet was rightfully torn apart for his mistakes and Baerbock was smeared and then giving himself the image of Merkels Successor as chancellor. His party now leads at 25% *FDP* The literal definition of a neoliberal party. Has gained support over the last years and sits comfortably at 11%. *AfD* The right-wing populist party. anti-immigration, anti-lgbtq, climate change denying, corrupt economically neoliberal, you know the drill. They emerged in the wake of the refugee crisis after starting out as a anti-euro party, but then started radicalising at lightspeed, with literal fascists now pulling the strings openly and behind the scenes. After failing to find a consistent narrative in the wake of the corona crisis at first, they've now latched onto the anti-mask, anti-vax, anti-lockdown, conspiracy kooks. But thankfully, they still lost a bit of support and are now sitting at 10%. And finally, there's: *DIE LINKE* Until 1990, Germany was split in two and the east was ruled by a one-party, socialist dictatorship. Within the ruling party, there were people who wanted to democratise, they took control and completely overhauled the party, now the PDS, the party of democratic socialism, they were a mildly successful party in the east, but they've never governed on a federal level, even after merging with a group of disillusioned former SPD members, who were rightfully appaled by Schröder's policies, and renaming to DIE LINKE. They were stuck on 9% like the Greens, but have sadly lost immensely and barely made it into parliament this time, at 4.9%. If they hadn't gotten their 3 directly elected members of parliament, they'd have failed at the 5%-requirement. *Verdict:* The most likely option is now an SPD-Greens-FDP-coalition. A CDU-Greens-FDP-Coalition would be possible, but it's unlikely. It had been discussed after the last election, but the FDP opted out, forcing the SPD into another GROKO. Speaking of which, the GROKO would mathematically be an option, but it would amount to political suicide. If you made it this far, I applaud you for your stamina and thank you for reading. What are your thoughts?

Bit of mild criticism since I think it's important to be as factual as possible here: The Emilie Oldknow thing doesn't show she intentionally sabotaged the case, it shows she was accused by the LOTO of intentionally sabotaging the case. All that shows definitively is 1. Jeremy Corbyn wanted his long time friend, Ken Livingstone, to be expelled from the party, over the antisemitism complaint 2. He blamed the Labour Right for the fact that this didn't happen. Oldknow is not taking credit for doing this, nor is it definitively proven either way. It does at the very least show that the Labour Left, and Corbyn himself were actively interested in trying to expel serious antisemites, and were suspicious that Labour Right staffers were the ones sabotaging the Ken Livingstone case. Worth noting that this is also immediately followed up by Corbyn asking Ian McNicol to investigate what happened IRT Ken, who replied saying he was looking in to it, which was revealed to be a lie as 10 months later he had done no work on it whatsoever. Everything else is spot on. Just think we should be precise as possible when discussing what went down at Labour HQ.

I might have a shred of respect for these right wingers in the Labour party if they just crossed the floor and joined the Tories if Corbyn and the Labour left disgusted them so much, but no, that would require them to have at least a modicum of integrity. Instead they chose to sabotage and gaslight, harass and abuse. You deserve better. The working class deserves better. The poor and unhoused and food-insecure deserve better. The disabled and chronically ill and elderly deserve better. Queer and trans people, trans children, deserve better. People of colour, muslims, and jews deserve better. And when you finally had your best chance for things to get better, for the nation to be lead by a person who had integrity and compassion and plans for meaningful change, his own party chose to destroy him and cede control to the Tories. But I don't think it is anti sematic to disagree with the statement “HAVING A CONNECTION TO ISRAEL MAKES JEWISH PEOPLE LESS LOYAL TO BRITAIN THAN OTHER BRITISH PEOPLE”. Hope that clears it up.

@@saampam894 Someone should do a comparative study between known antisemites and those who aren't, looking into the mechanical wear on their CapsLock button while having multiple groups based on the age of the keyboard in daily use to factor in a control mechanism for mechanical wear caused by general period of use of the keyboard. Anyhow, let's try to reason with you and assume "good faith", as unlikely as it might be with likely bigots. First, do you relise that most Jews who live in the UK haven't ever even been to Israel to begin with? Now, a short history lesson for unintentional antisemites. "Jewish disloyalty" is literally the chief foundational antisemitic trope, it predates existence of the Israeli state for, well, literally over two millennia and has been deployed by any proto-fascist (and as of recently fascist) theocratic racist society from Arabian Islamist societies, over Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Europe, and, of course, the inbred Englishmen's Anglican imperialist sphere as well. Now. Do you think that the percentage would be much distinct if you were to poll Anglican Englishmen whether they're "loyal to the UK" by asking them if they have special relationships and interests in relation to England? If you don't see what's the problem with your thinking here having considered all of my points and inquiries above, well, as a matter of objective fact you could neither pass the Turing test nor the Gom Jabbar test, while the Voight-Kampff test would certainly send you into murderous rage.

This video is a 33 minute analysis of an antisemitism crisis which never once discusses what antisemitism is or how it affects people. Perhaps you weren't British jewish or weren't there at the time when these events were unfolding, and so have the privilege of seeing this as just a series of political events, only consequential because of what they meant for the Labour party. But to many of us, it was an emotionally gruelling time, where we genuinely wondered if the British left wanted us. We saw other leftists, often our own friends, either ignore allegations or fully join in with antisemitic sentiments. Every day in the lead up to the election was beyond exhausting. It's interesting to me that at the time, I remember thinking--wow, non-Jews don't care about us one bit except as a political tool. The right uses us to make the left look bad, the left uses us to make the right look bad. Either way, we only matter if politically convenient. This video confirms that to me. It explores the antisemitism crisis as an anti-Corbyn conspiracy instead of the multifaceted and painful experience that it was. Other than the fairly unexplored idea that it only 'put Jewish people at greater risk', i really don't see any concern for jewish people here at all. And isn't that what discussions of racism are meant to be about?

What you are demanding is a different video altogether. This one is dealing with dark practices within the Labour party HQ and PLP, aimed at deposing the twice-elected leader. The dark practices obviously worked well -- filling the MSM with tales of anti-semitism, that made you feel unsafe. Sorry for that.

I wish there was a greater level of legitimate choice in the UK political system, I'd rather not have to vote for the labour-right when I'm trying to get labour-left, socialists, in parliament, but there only being 3 major parties that get any semblance of a chance of having genuine support is so demoralising, and the Conservatives will just plain lie with no apparent consequences (£3million for the NHS huh...). But then, if there wasn't the Conservatives there may be more support given to UKIP which I absolutely don't want...urgh. why doesn't everyone want the same things as me lol it'd make this whole politics thing a lot easier!

It didn’t say that Islam is a threat to British life, it said a threat to the British way of life. Those are two very different statements. Might wanna be more careful when phrasing stuff next time mate, cause people might get the wrong idea.

As much as I dislike Starmer I do want him to win. We can't take more of the conservatives, the country's gone crazy. I'll take right-wing centrists ove fascists, thanks... you know? Great video though, really loved the quote at the end.

Ultimately whoever wins it's just important to me that people know what to expect from Starmer and not to let themselves be sucked in by his phony rhetoric like so many were with Blair. I'd LIKE to think the lesson has been learned since Blair but it's probably worth repeating.
@NaviRyan3 жыл бұрын
I believe both Boris and starmer are idiots, however the conservatives will continue to crush labour at the polls, because labour isn’t an effective opposition party, and are bleeding voters to other left wing parties. Barring an internal fight within the conservatives they will win every election.

14:30 I watched some of your videos and you garnered some of my respect but touting the word "Zionism" like that is dearly wrong, I tend to believe you are simply uninformed and don't have any particular grudge against any so called "Zionist" group. this type of speaking-without-fact-checking hurts this video immensely and somewhat disqualifies the point your are trying to make as the subject is so sensitive.

The report you use as the basis for this video has not been validated as actual source of truth. Other views, given by third party non-partisan lawyers and analysts, have found substantial problems with how this report is constructed and how it reaches its conclusions. It certainly has an agenda and seems rely mostly on officials blowing steam on WA conversations. The report also published officials names without their permission, which is a crime. It doesn't reassure people of the reports credibility. I'm not saying its all bull, but this hasn't ended and thus you can't argue that there's a bottom line 'truth about antisemitism' in the Labour Party. Also the statistics around Jews voting for Labour does not negate genuine concerns around instances of antisemitism. Also (again), Starmer (I'm ambivalent towards him) is not a Blairite. Actually look him up, he's a socialist. You make great content, but this video is pretty shaky.
