Total respect for anyone who can take these things apart and put them back together without having any bits left over but imagine coming up with the design for it in the first place.

It must be a very exclusive list of engineers who have the skill and knowledge to successfully carry out this work. I have always found gearbox internals to be a thing of engineering beauty. Even a basic five speed is impressive but this one just blows my mind. I could quite literally display those gears as art in my house. Well done Sir.

Complicated is a huge understatement. Immense gearbox. Hugely entertaining to watch. Those little ball bearings and blocks must be a feckin nightmare when putting it back together.

For all the bants, this man is hiding some serious talent & knowledge. He’s super conscientious and mechanically sympathetic, but hides behind a carefree persona - don’t be fooled. The way he stripped that box, he’s done that a 1000 times and knows Exactly what he’s going to find and exactly what’s needed. A true craftsman and the reason he’s the number one go to guy. Keep up the great vids and technical content. 5⭐️

Great video as always Ricky! One for your ‘Question Time’; I’ve a gen1.5 v10 plus that Audi found a small weep on the dl800. They are replacing the whole unit which sounds crazy! Apparently there was a technical bulletin to run through some steps, tighten bits, etc.. but that didn’t fix it. What do you think would have been the problem and if anyone out of warranty had a similar experience would you be able to fix (assuming a leak)? Also if they are replacing the gearbox would that mean the mech unit, clutch, etc.. would all be new as it looks like it’s all internal? Thanks! Che

Fair play to you for doing work like this, I understand you not showing your special tool bit but you would have to be kin brave to try and do something like this unless you were really confident you knew what you were doing, extremely complicated 😳 Question for you, I have a MK4 1.8T and am planning to do a bigger turbo build on, already mapped and the normal things done, have a budget of around 5k would this be the type of work you could do and do you think the budget is realistic as will need to do rods etc 350 to 400 bhp would be the gole, love your videos, funny accents, banter and clips etc 😬👍🏻

Rick; will you keep the engine room in unit one just for gearbox rebuilds/repairs and have unit two just for engines and clean of gearboxes? Also in the new unit what do you use for exhaust fume extraction and will you have fire suppression system installed at a later date as we all know what insurance companies are like. All the best.
