There’s a lot of history behind locs. To understand them, you first have to understand afro textured hair. In this video I’ll be debunking some myths and show you the reality.

I've always felt that locks were the EASIEST way to maintain Afro hair. Before the whole natural hair movement, most people with long natural hair had locks. But I will admit that a lot of people have negative opinions about it. Especially in Africa, locks are considered dada, or unkempt hair. Love the video, and your products! That REAL protein is magic!

Hi! I am a locked-natural. I understand that in general, hair needs to be getting enough moisture and enough protein. As a locked-natural, I need to make sure that I am only using light products in my hair (if I have too many things/products in my hair, it will create build up within my locks). Given the criteria I need my hair products to meet (provide me with enough moisture and protein, without creating build up), I've been having a really hard time finding the right products and creating the right routine for my hair. Most of the products I've been coming across, create build up in locks (if they provide enough moisture and protein) or don't provide enough moisture and protein (if they don't create buildup in locks). After a few mishaps (going from not using conditioners & only oiling my scalp and doing black tea and green tea rinses, then switching to using conditioners that claim to be "light" and ending up with build up and an itchy scalp, etc.), I am taking down my locks, cleaning out the buildup, giving myself a really good protein treatment, and reinstalling them to start over from scratch. My plan for my new routine (as far as products go) is this: - I plan on mixing your protein treatment into some raw African black soap and washing my hair with it. - to moisturize my hair and scalp, I plan on dampening my hair with warm/hot water and then giving myself a hot oil treatment (utilizing a plastic cap and a winter hat). _______________________________ With all of this said, I have a few questions for you: 1. Can I mix your protein treatment into African Black Soap and supply my hair with the protein it needs that way, or is the protein treatment specifically designed for conditioners/moisturizers? 2. If applying a hot oil treatment to dampen hair won't be enough to moisturize my hair, can you suggest for me any conditioning and moisturizing treatments I can apply to my hair that won't create build up within my locks? 3. Can you make some more videos talking about the science behind locked-natural hair (talking about the importance of avoiding build up and using light products, etc.) and maybe compare the differences between how one would take care of loose-natural hair and how one would take care of locked-natural hair, on your channel?

Great video!! I hope you can discuss how sometimes you see people with locked hair and there is no hair on their crown. Is that from too much pulling or the heaviness. Very interested as my mother-in-law has had sister locks for years and they're quite long. But most of her crown hair is gone.

I'd love if in the next video you could also explain the difference between locs and dreadlocs. And how the big myth with people with locs not washing their hair comes from how dreads are done. Mostly the way people with naturally straight hair dread their hair( through pulling, ripping, cutting, not washing, etc) it's a big misunderstanding

I like your Channel! It was just what I was looking for. Although as a free-form loc'd person, I did notice that your tone was slightly different when you talked about freeform locs. It would have been nice to see a free-form locked person washing their hair too. All in all I really like your videos I'll keep watching. But I would like to see you research freeform locs and some of the people who have freeform channels and do a video about freeform locs. It is a large community that would really appreciate your scientific touch. I specifically found you to look for the science of different techniques to wash very thick locks. I am currently using black soap along with steaming my hair and it works really well. But I would love to know the science behind how Steam or black soap penetrates multi layered hair. Please do a video on steaming Locs. You are an amazing resource.

I really really really appreciate your videos!! My mum hated her hair growing up and never knew how to take care of it (she was adopted by a white family). She passed her hate on to me and I didn’t know how to care for it. I fell in love with my hair after I shaved it in 2018. I’ve been loced since 2021 but I’m still learning and your channel is a greattt source of info!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! 🙇🏽‍♀️🥹❤️

Unlocking hair (combing out locks) is extremely time consuming, but it can be done. Most people just cut them off and start fresh. I have seen a few videos of people un-combing their locks though. It just takes a lot of patience and conditioner.

+Green Beauty Channel Please could you make a video on curly perms/cold waves and their effects on hair? My hair is very kinky coily, tightly packed, thin stranded and very very low in porosity. I'm considering cold waves as the next option because I don't have time to properly manage my hair in it's natural state. I hear it is less damaging than relaxers or texturizers, but there is not as much info on its use on afro hair (believe me I've researched). Please help me, you are the most trust-worthy hair channel on KZbin.

unless you have a health condition that causes hair loss, like alopeca, your hair is constantly growing. your hair will actually retain length much better if it's locked, since there's very little breakage and shed hairs wont fall out as easily. thats why it seems like people with locs have faster growing hair.

@user-pl5nu6vn7c

Yes, apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil and spray tea tree oil every night to induce hair growth. If baldness is due to male pattern baldness, that is genetic and I don't think can be fixed unless you use treatments to slow the process down or add hair like what MGK did to the temple of his hair. If you are a women and experiencing baldness due to traction alopecia, first find out what might have triggered it and stop wearing tight hairstyles or wigs. Next step is to go completely natural for about 2 years prior to getting locs. Locs will only make traction alopecia worse unless you only tighten your hair once a year while having locs or go free form- sisterlocs are not recommended if you have traction alopecia since tightening regularly is a must inorder to prevent the small locs from breaking and falling out

Great video! I prefer the micro dreads rather than the 'free form' or 'natty dreads' as my folks from Jamaica would say! Alot of natty dreads I have seen in the UK, look very unkempt and do look unprofessional in any environment. That's just my opinion though! 😉
@Andythecreature
@Andythecreature Жыл бұрын
i was scrolling through to see if anyone had mentioned "natty dreads" as another name for "free form" :) > do look unprofessional in any environment i think it has to do with the culture/beliefs of most people how decide to go that route (all natural / let nature runs its course). Recently i met an individual with some very uniform, non-puffy dreads & was taken aback when they told me they allowed the locks to form naturally, but separated them as the locking progressed to reach the desired result
