Please, any DIY skincare enthusiasts reading this, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT use the roller if you're microneedling at home...use the stamp microneedler...when you roll that thing across your skin it creates long tears because of the angle of the needles relative to your skin...what you want is an up and down puncturing motion...not a rolling motion...

I bought a dermapen (Dr Pen, idk if it’s global or just Australia). Has all the sterile needles you replace, rechargeable, saw Dr Davin Lim talk about it. It’s the same as what I’ve seen in clinics, it works out to be economical if you’re using it in multiple places and need multiple appointments. Less waste than dermarollers, you’d have to be doing something on purpose for this to be unhygienic!

Fun fact: the itching feeling comes from the increased blood flow to your face, mixed with the new tiny wounds your brain doesn't register it as pain, but it knows something is out of the norm and it's getting a ton of signals so it translates that in to an itching feeling.

This feels like a peek into an alternate universe for me, as a trans guy who was formerly VERY into beauty culture. I transitioned just before "perfect bare skin" started trending in 2020 and it's been strange to reflect on the noticeable lifting of pressure I felt wrt the appearance of my skin. Even with T causing me to flare up, i suddenly didn't care about that aspect of my appearance. Just a gendered observation from someone who has exited the shadow of the beauty industry.
@VeloriaMyVey Жыл бұрын

@@VeloriaMyVey I'm already on meds for life, so adding 1 more 'subscription' to the list doesn't bother me. To answer your question, it's hard to know exactly how my relationship with my appearance would have developed if not for the pandemic. But i suspect i would've been highly influenced by the "perfect bare skin" trend, as I had a pattern of trying to perform femininity, as a way of convincing myself I was too good at being a woman to waste my potential by transitioning.... I was already transitioning for 2 years before the pandemic, just very slowly. In fact, I used the public's perception of me as a GNC woman as a shield, using he/him pronouns with my friends only while slowly masculinizing aspects of my appearance. The pandemic's arrival only shortened my transition timeline by providing the ideal environment for self-exploration and removing the obligation for me to design my appearance to be consumed by the public.

I'm trans and just had an hrt consultation today, but I'm not on hormones yet. I went out a bought myself some new skincare stuff, when I used to NEVER take care of my skin. It's just weird that our journeys took us in totally opposite directions. I never had hygiene issues, but transitioning made me care more about my appearance. I think it's partially just that my gender identity and my attitude about skin care changes with time, and part of it is that I finally like myself, so I want to do extra maintenance.

I was completely unafraid of needles as a kid until around middle school. One of my annual flu shots hurt way more than it was supposed to; the nurse at the time apologized and explained it was likely the needle being duller than it was supposed to be, but that it was a pretty rare thing. A couple years later, I had an almost identically painful one at a different place with a different nurse. I'm thinking those are what set off my fear, as I went through my teens and early twenties unable to get a shot without breaking down into tears. I'm better than I was but have to actively work to keep calm when I get shots/blood drawn and can't look at the needle.

I had microneedling done just on my left cheek when I was younger and it was life changing. I got the worst of my acne in that area to the point where I used to have my whole cheek swollen, it felt hard and hot to the touch, very painful. Did a lot of sessions of microneedling and a year after it was like I had absolutely nothing. I've been thinking about getting some done again in some areas where I still have scars from some bad breakouts I had as an adult, so this video made me wanna get an appointment now.

I used to pass out getting blood drawn. Figures I wound up with leukemia and for the past 10+ years I'm getting my blood drawn CONSTANTLY. If you have trouble with getting blood taken tell the technician you need to lay down, this way if you pass out you don't hit the floor. Also, ask for a butterfly needle. When I get my blood drawn with the standard style needle, I start off fine but a few seconds in the puncture site starts to burn. Then it REALLY starts to burn and that feeling travels up and down my arm. Because it hurts so bad, I hold my breath and that's one thing that leads me to passing out. If I feel the standard style needle moving inside I pass out in almost an instant. The butterfly needle has a short tube attached to it, so the blood is pulled out a little bit slower, and for me I don't feel like my arm is on fire. Plus, because the vacuum vial attaches to the tube, and not the needle directly, the needle doesn't move around in the vein while they change vials! So, just some tips I had to figure out the hard way, from someone who needs to have their blood pulled every few weeks.

I have been interested in microneedling for a while, I started breaking out on my chin very badly about a year ago and the scarring is definitely noticeable, at least to me. Ironically I had very clear skin as a teenager and only started dealing with acne in my 20's so I had no clue how to deal with it lmao. Thanks for the info!! Side note: Saw some other comments mentioning how odd it is to see how normalized cosmetic procedures are in LA when you don't live in LA which is absolutely true. Understandably, the acting/film industry has weird crazy standards for how people should look and people try their best to fit that in order to continue in their career path. It's shitty that people feel this way but again, totally understandable that people want to get work done considering the environment. Not a culture that I necessarily think is healthy but you can't blame people for following incentives. Personally the obsession with anti-aging just makes me sad :( especially for women it feels like everyone is trying to make you feel like your beauty naturally expires in your 20's which is so dumb. At the end of the day, it's all a personal choice, I just wish the pressure could be lessened a bit.

I had a microneedling treatment done in 2021 and I'm still thrilled with the results. I do microneedling without numbing, apparently numbing creams aren’t great for skin healing, I had the same issue after surgery too. There are ways of building pain tolerance, it’s honestly in your own best interest to find ways to make it through painful experiences too, you never know what life will throw at you! I make it through tattoos by remembering this is temporary & I want this. Having surgery/sepsis was harder, all I could do was focus all my energy into meditating & essentially dissociating into a fake world during the wound-packing. Do some research into pain tolerance building, life is easier knowing you can push through!

Hey Amanda, Just a little personal experience. I think we look a lot alike. Our mouth area in particular behaves similarly. I've been trying to do stuff to my gummy smile with botox for a while. It's probably important to mention, that if you get botox under your nose, or do the lip flip (but particularly under the nose), your smile WILL change. To me, because I have a sort of straight/dowturned smile, the difference is a little bit jarring sometimes when it turns upward after botox. It makes me look a bit clownish (?). I would suggest trying different areas ONE BY ONE first, and then maybe combine once you see how your features look. Thought I'd mention it because of acting.

I have no problem with cosmetic procedures and cameras really don’t let you hide anything but ppl gotta be honest about what’s up.

As someone who gets semi regular blood draws, I feel you. You'd think I'd have gotten used to it by now but instead my fear of needles has only gotten worse.

Thanks for reviewing this! I’ve always been curious about these kinds of procedures but I’m pretty afraid of them. I’d love to hear about the under eye treatment in detail because I’ve always been self conscious about that area.

You should look into frownies, or forehead taping. Essentially you keep the wrinkle prone areas still when you sleep to treat and prevent wrinkles. It’s what celebrities did before Botox. It’s been really effective for me!

I have Trypanophobia, I once freaked out (I was literally going between laughing and crying) the nurse giving me the shot couldn’t stop laughing. I’m assuming my phobia either started or was amplified by when I got a white blood cell Infection and had to get blood draws literally every hour in the hospital and then had to do the blood draws every month for a while. Basically t r a u m a lmao

when I got the round of needles in 7th grade I had them all at once- two in my left (non-dominant) and one in my right. I did the normal rotating my arm and walking around a bit, then I got up and made it a few steps out of the door before I literally blacked out and came to on the floor. Tiny little 4'11" nurse and my 50y/o mother trying to hold me up as I went down like a sack of bricks is an incredibly funny mental image to me. Those needles are no joke, they use bigger gauges than the flu/blood draw needles in those bad boys!

Oh wow, your skin is gorgeous! And you mentioned eventual botox... I'm 50+ but also an absolute coward with needles. I just ordered a couple of serums with argireline and syn-ake. They're topicals that are supposed to have a similar effect as botox but might take a month or two to have an effect on wrinkles. They seem like a good alternative, and I'm okay with the wait. We'll see if they're worth it!

The way you describe the feeling and the healing, it seems just like a tattoo so if you want a tattoo ever you already know what to expect lol

Tapping is now the only way I try to get rid of itchiness. Picked it up from getting tattoos.

I was a fighter too as a kid. I have vivid memories of my mom, grandma and two nurses holding me down as like an 8 year old for a shot. I was pretty good with blood draws until I aged, actually.

I feel super hipster right now because I’m like, “I watched this video when it had its original title.” 🤣 Edit: Or I’m imagining things because it’s the middle of the night in Australia, but I swear it had a different title when I first clicked it. 🤔

Not to be a member of the Swell Simps Uwu nation, but I think those no-makeup shots even before the procedure look really cute. The combination of imperfections adds up to a really charming look that I for one am really into.

Its funny that as a former needle junkie, nowadays I really Hate needles, they freak me out. Which sucks even more since all my veins are calloused or pancaked so Im really hard to hit (aka draw blood/get an IV). Once when I went to the ER because I had an unknown appendicitis, the nurses could not hit any veins. So it turned into a could different nurses coming in to try their hand at poking me, they stab it in then violently move it around, shredding any veins that were there. They brought in some machine with a red light that showed where veins were, still couldn't hit anything, so they finally brought in a specialist that puts in deep stents where they used an ultrasound to find a vein deep down in my arm. I actually tried to leave because it got so bad.

My partner hates needles, he calls it getting stabbed and when I argue "you're not being stabbed", he gets the google definition up haha.

I've had microneedling done before which made quite the difference in my acne scarring at the same time holy hell it hurts. By the time they're done doing my entire face I will be tearing up for the next 10 minutes.

I am PETRIFIED of needles, or anything medical really..even though I am “interested” in those topics I have this overriding physical response that if I don’t remove myself from the situation and sit down I will feel faint/pass out! So annoying!

Time for a tangent. I'm not sure if I have commented this on your accutane video but...accutane gave me ulcerative colitis. I took it in middle school and I had to sign a bunch of shit even as a guy saying that I wasn't going to have sex or get pregnant. I had to have blood drawn every month and when my mom and I asked what they were looking for, my dermatologist flat out told me it was to "make sure the drug isn't killing my liver." I don't know how much she was joking when she said this but I do know that she had me try like 4 other medications before accutane because it was the strongest medicine and kind of like a last resort. Accutane was fairly new at the time and I don't fully remember how long I was on it. I have never been a fan of needles but I don't have a phobia of them. I still have to have labs done every three months and I can't watch them stick me.
