@march24-lp4pv that's right, we had baby powder with talc sold for years and years until we found out how bad it was. This is just one example. The other: plastic with BPA which was used for making for example baby bottles, plates, cups, water bottles, you name it. Sold for many years until we found out, it is not healthy.

I am glad someone is finally addressing this issue. I got so much flack for using the Nivea blue tin due to its high petrolatum content (not due to its fragrance go figure). That cream is the only substance that keeps my skin soft and moisturized. I have tried just about everything even up to a high petrolatum cream that my dermatologist had especially made for me. The Nivea still worked better at keeping the moisture in. Yes, it has fragrance, but it works and so far no issues. I will re-assess when I should get issues. I am 47 and have been using this tin since age 3. An allergy can always happen, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Thank you so much for talking about mineral oil!

Same thing happened to me. I also believed the hype about petroleum and paraffinum liquidum, and bought some face cream from a brand that was supposed to be "natural" with chamomile and it burned my skin. It burned like hell. But I have never had a reaction to nivea blue tin cream.

I bought the German Nivea on Amazon because it doesn't have mineral oil and petrolatum. The smell is not as strong as the American one, and I really like it. That was before I came across Dr Dray's videos, and now I use albolene to clean my face. I'm thinking about buying the American Nivea to see which one my skin prefers.

@@dlemos2817 I have nothing else but the German version (Beiersdorf), since I am from Belgium, and it's the only one we got. It does contain those ingredients, just the same as the other jars. I have been using this since the age of 3, and I'm about to turn 48, so I think I know my ingredients. ;)

I am almost 44, and I cannot find ANY natural, affordable substance to keep my skin hydrated. My cheeks are like sandpaper. I heard about Nivea and how incredible it makes advanced age skin look, and I immediately went out and bought a tester. Whenever I have a reaction to any skin care due to my very sensitive/reactive skin, I end up with what looks like chemical burns, petroleum is the ONLY thing that has helped to calm it and allow it time to heal. And heal without scarring. So I don’t care what anyone has to say about it. I KNOW for certain it’s the only thing that won’t flare up my reactions any worse. This is after 46 yrs under my belt trying to find skin care that’s right for me and healing the horrible dry peeling flaking red angry painful reactions left from trying new products. They literally look like chemical burns. They don’t happen out of no where either so I know it’s not eczema or rosacea, it’s definitely a reaction from what I have put on my face. So it’s not coming from the inside out, it’s definitely caused by an external element. Still at 46 yrs old I’m not sure what things I might be allergic to in skincare, my last reaction a few years ago from Garner Fructise facial lotion. But the combination of Dove bar soap, gently exfoliating the flakes with a warm soapy washcloth and then applying some type of petroleum are the only things that get me through a flare up. I used to use Creamy Vaseline but since it’s been discontinued I’ve switched to Aquafor. It’s a combination that esthetician’s and dermatologists scoff at is what has literally saved my face throughout the years, and I still look younger than my 46 years on this earth...
@srhee77655 жыл бұрын
I used to get chemical burns at least once a month and didn't know why. After keeping a journal to track all the products I used and their ingredients, I discovered I have issues with most glycols (humectants/penetration enhancers). Propylene glycol (Allergen of the Year for 2018) is my nemesis and always leaves my face with a nasty chemical burn that takes 1 week to heal. Butylene glycol and pentylene glycol also cause redness and irritation. Unfortunately glycols are in many products.

I had to listen to the part about excess sebum production twice because I feel like you may have answered a dilemma I’ve been stressing about this week. I started a new skincare product that I was told would likely make my skin drier at first. Well, no! It has gotten SO much oilier. I had always heard if your skin is producing more oil it’s probably because it’s dehydrated. After listening to you I’m pretty sure it’s because my skin is going through a phase of irritation and overproducing oil and applying extra hydration will not improve it. I’m sad about this, but also enlightened.

The concern for me when it comes to Petrolatum is due to the lack of regulation in US compared to EU. Unrefined, low grade petrolatum contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), also called polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, which are known carcinogens.This is why the EU banned the use of petrolatum unless “the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen.” FDA has no such requirement for the use of Petrolatum in skincare products. I would like to get your perspective on this Dr. Dray and also the differences between Petrolatum, White Petrolatum and Petrolatum USP as listed on the label.

I was one of those individuals who believed the hype about mineral oil being toxic to the skin. Not anymore. It is in a couple of products I use on my skin regularly and is very soothing and moisturizing. I recently found an efficient way to remove Albolene from my face without using disposable cotton rounds or tissues. I found some 100% cotton flannel facial cloths at Walmart, 4 to a package for about $6. I soak them with very warm water first, then wipe down my face to remove the Albolene cleansing balm. They are very soft on the skin with no pulling or tugging like with the disposables. I then wash the cloth right away using a fragrance free liquid soap to prevent the makeup and silicone residue from setting into the cloth. I love these cloths and now use my cleansing balm more frequently! In my Walmart the cloths were located where they sell cotton balls and rounds. I'm also going to buy a small mesh laundry bag to put them in for a thorough washing when I wash towels. :)

HOw to use straight mineral oil? And what is the difference between mineral oil and Vaseline in terms of usage? Are two video requests/questions I have dr dray. I hope you like my suggestions and make a video on it soon. Thank you for all your content!

I totally trust you Dr. Dray and I agree with you! I wonder though how some other dermatologists like Dr.Anthony Youn for example here on KZbin, who have also studied the skin, say that we should avoid petroleum jelly? I mean I could understand this myth by ordinary people, but from a doctor? Why?? 🤷♀️🤦♀️

I have eczema and super sensitive skin and use mineral oil based products as an occlusive. I find I need some emollient ingredients like shea butter to treat the dryness, but seal those in with a mineral oil based product. Even used on wet skin a heavily mineral oil based cream isn't enough on its own. My skin literally produces no sebum and is so dry, that layering really works for me. My skincare is so sorted out now that I'm even managing to use tretinoin for anti aging, but I layer hydrators, humectants, emollients and occlusives. This works for me - they're fragrance free, not too many ingredients and trap water and oil into my skin. At the moment I have no active eczema patches even in this Scottish Winter yippee! I have to moisturise twice daily face and body, but my skin feels comfortable and not itchy so it's a win. Used correctly mineral oil is fairly inert and shouldn't cause problems/allergies, but it can be a savior for very dry skin or skin issues. Busting skin care myths should be a series and i always enjoy these ingredient based videos. Best wishes.

Dr Dray! I hope you know how many people you’ve helped with your awesome and informative videos. I happened to see you mentioned in several reviews on Amazon for Rosacure, and then I googled you and found your KZbin! I’ve had skin issues for years and never really found a dermatologist who seemed to fully understand/be able to help the issues... and I’ve definitely made things worse with being a product “whore” trying anything and everything. The last couple years I’ve been dealing with rosacea.... your tips on keeping things simple was a reality check for me, and since taking your advice there’s a lot of improvement (for example, I now use nothing but albolene and vanicream for cleansing and that has both helped calm redness and pretty much eliminated any dryness). Just wanted to say thank you and I appreciate you! 😀

Hello from hot and sunny New Zealand. I’ve been following for two years and have learned so much and simplified my skincare. This morning I walked the dog on the beach for an hour, I literally washed my face that slathered on my sunscreen and good to go. Two years ago that routine would have been serums x2 face cream and maybe some sun screen. Today my skin is better, I have more time and money and have learned heap. Thanks Doc

Ready for another mind blower?? My 100+ year old home of course has hardwood floors. The only thing on my hardwood floors...is......yep, mineral oil. I have 2 dogs, cook all the time, I have cleaned my floors with bleach, spilled tomato sauce, over watered plants, dogs water bowl ....constant water on the floor. Nothing so far has damaged my floors. No chemicals, no polyurethane to chip .....just mineral oil 😍

Could you do a video on skincare ingredients that are banned in the EU but not in the US? Like certain parabens, petroleum distillates, hydroquinone etc.

Hi there! I received also the allbolene cream and when I wash it up from my face I feel it is still there and I still have some mascara left. I even put the CeraVe hydrating cleanser cream immediately over, as Dr Dray recommended but I still feel it on my face. Do you feel it too? Or maybe is not the original one, the one I received it from Amazon.
@evelynandLucy5 жыл бұрын
Tatiana T ALLBOLENE does leave residue after you rinse it off That is just to soften up the make up and make it easier to wash off with your regular cleanser but you have to go in with your second cleanser, I use a gentle gel cleanser, after that Is when you put a moisturizer on

I’ve been avoiding mineral oil and petrolatum since the 80’s when all the hype came out that it was a crude oil byproduct and clogged your pores and caused cancer. Again I thank you immensely for dispelling all the myths and giving us the facts. I’ve been following you for over a year now and I appreciate all your incredibly accurate and well researched facts on everything you review. I will not buy a single skincare product Until it gets the thumbs up from you! I trust you explicitly. Thank you Dr Dray! I think you are just amazing! Have a wonderful 2020! All my best to your Mom and little pup also! 👍👏🎆🎊

I look for mineral oil in moisturizers because I love it. Again, I wash my face with bar soap, but moisturizers with mineral oil really keep my face from drying out or looking/feeling red and irritated. I like that glow that mineral oil in a moisturizer imparts to my skin.

Happy Friday! In the world of skin care, we hear many comments that differ from reality. It is very difficult to untangle the good from the bad when you have no knowledge of the subject! Thank you for setting the record straight! You have to be aware of all these falsehoods if you want to take advantage of beneficial products that some people believe to be destructive. I strongly encourage you to denounce all these malicious people who are trying to bust your work. I should say go against what science says. We need to be educated about all these slanders in order to be able to counter them definitively!
