I guess it could have been done better, but for guys, having too much hair makes it hard to always look presentable whereas short hair makes you always look the same. If you go for a run or even walk around on a particularly windy day, your hair will be blown and messed up. Plus, not having quite enough hair but still moderately grown means you aren't really able to pin it, knot it, or tie it, but you'll still suffer from it messing up the presentation of your hair unless you use oils or gels. Also, it can be oppressive for a lot of people when their hair is too thick and unmanageable. In the case of a lot of guys, it's usually liberating or emboldening when you get a short haircut.
