The glorification of Asians and Asian culture through anime, Kpop, and Kdramas has made many people forget about the unpleasant things in east Asian culture such as the high suicide rate, plastic surgery rates, and powerful families/gangs that can pressure police and courts. Most Asians don't look like cute anime girls or Kpop idols and things aren't so pretty beneath the surface

I don't think necessarily, if they introduce themselves to new people with being korean or japanese and those people are decent and respectful people they will accept it (I mean how can you not accept the race of someone). I for example also tell people I am egyptian when they ask for my race or heritage, but I can't speak the language and I don't "look" typically egyptian either, but it doesn't change the fact that I am trough my parents and I am thankful for having friends who don't take that away from me just because of my looks and language and instead respect me (even my arab friends) I know that is a different situation than the one in the video, but I do think there are some similarities. Personally I don't see a problem with what these girls are doing as long as they are happy and respectful, it doesn't really hurt anyone, whatever floats your boat kind of thing, you don't really have to befriend them. But also I think it is to overthink if you gain happiness from random people getting laughed at and I wouldn't deem that as any better behaviour then what they are doing.

@@MrsRedMink yeah maybe i was being a bit harsh, and i see what you're saying, but i feel like the situations are a bit different of actually being part of a race/ethnicity and just pretending to achieve an "aesthetic". if someone were to respect the culture normally without claiming to have changed their race, that'd be a different story, it's good to respect other cultures. but i think the problem is within how they take an entire race and culture and boil it down to an aesthetic. I'm not asian so i can't say too much about it, but it feels incredibly ignorant for someone with barely any knowledge about the culture outside of like kpop and anime, as shown in the video, to claim themselves as that race to be "cute". i take back what i said about wanting them to be laughed at (and i edited my comment to be a little less harsh), because i think it's clear that these girls have an internal self-hatred and that's not something that should be fueled further, however i still heavily disagree with what they're doing

I’ve heard a couple of stories where people have gone to countries like Japan and had full on *existential crisises* because no one wears kimonos or uniforms and none of the teenagers were incredibly attractive like they are represented as in anime. I feel like Vietnam along with countries like India, Thailand, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Singapore are brushed aside because they’re “boring” (someone else’s words after I discussed this with them) and they don’t match the idealised aesthetic of Korea and Japan. Korean American here! I just, wow. I was adopted to two white parents before I even turned one, and they tried with all of their might to make sure I never pursued an interest in my Korean origins. As I grew up with all of my all-white peers treating being Asian as a joke, I came to resent the way that I looked and, to an extent, all things remotely Asian. Going away to college was the first time I was able to meet other people that looked like me and learn about cultural things I've missed out on. I've since tried to reclaim parts of the culture I was robbed of as it's like reclaiming a piece of me that was always supposed to be there; be it through language, music, media, and historical dives. I've been fascinated by what I've seen, heard and learned, and am excited to someday visit Seoul to see that city and country I was born in! Unfortunately, I was also introduced to the idea of Korean fetishization. People who idealize being a Korean to an unhealthy degree and summing the entire culture up essentially as either an infantilized/cutesy culture where people are fragile porcelain dolls or BTS. It hurts when people tell me that I don't LOOK like a real Korean compared to their favorite K-Pop group. Bruh, I was born in Seoul. But it also makes me feel gross when I tell someone I'm Korean and they start salivating at the thought they're meeting "a real Korean," like I'm no longer a human, I'm just the subject of their weird, dehumanizing obsession. In short, please, PLEASE don't be an RCTA. It's harmful to try and claim culture and genetics (like, wtf) that were never yours to begin with. It just stigmatizes learning the culture entirely as cringe. As such, it only stands to makes it harder for people like me to try and reclaim what we've lost without a tainted sense of shame and embarrassment.

The thing about subliminals, is that they send messages to your mind subconsciously, allowing you to grasp on to whatever you are listening to, and depending on the person will either give you permanent or temporary results, for maybe a few days until you listen again. However, some I do use myself, but most are for things that actually will help me, such as clear skin, losing weight or etc. I will however admit most I see are unrealistic, but at the end of the day we are allowed to use them for whatever purpose we want, and it cannot be helped if some people use them for dumb reasons like this. I could see maybe if a person was already Asian and wanted to perfect their image and personality more, but a person not of that ethnicity using it to change themselves completely to gain attention instead of for themselves is overboard.

As a fillipino/Australian, I usually either get mocked as either a ‘Smart Asian Kid, Rice-muncher,’ and because of my skin color, I’m also called ‘Indian’ or ‘Taco eater,’ or even ‘LILO FROM LILO AND STITCH!!!!1!1’ and honestly, it’s annoying, but I’ve gotten used to it. One of my friends also said, “Hey, but she’s not an asian, she’s fillipino!” And yes, it wasn’t necessary, but I absolutely snapped and yelled at them. (I had previously told them and explained that the philippines is part of asia) and they blamed me.

@GenshinBrokeMySanity6 ай бұрын
I'm a filipino, and yeah that's true my mom's friend said that her child got bullied so badly she quitted schools and it happens mostly in public schools because in private schools guards guard the gates. plus theres a place known as boys town it's where problematic teens are sent to, basically jail for minors
@MuichiroAme4 ай бұрын
i'm also a filipino, and i agree with you to not be a filipino. And yeah we got alot of bullies on public schools, and i'm lucky to go to a high school that is a christian private school. I still remember those bullies in public school and what they did made me have Social Anxiety, Bipolar and PTSD, which made my personality turn from extrovert to a shy introvert with insecurities. Even if your an adult, you'll be having a very hard time on getting jobs due to the requirement of having a degree for a certain things (but not all required a degree), as well as there will be drug addicts, kidnappers, sexual assults, human trafficking, etc. and it will happen more often than most of the countries

What is the RCTA? Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Warns you if one or more vehicles are about to enter your backing path. What It Does: Can detect cars that might be crossing as you back up. What It Does Not Do: May not detect cars behind you when parking spaces are angled; may not detect pedestrians.
