DON’T want stuff to be unbreakable. But cars should last at least 150,000 miles without a $1000 failure. I like how California requires all PZEV-rated gasoline cars to pass emission inspection for 150,000 miles. Under warranty. It forces manufacturers to improve quality, so the car survives at least 150,000 without issues.

I'm a mechanical engineer. In a industry most decisions are made based on cost and the final price of the product to reach a target market. Engineers do their best to follow these guidelines. However, any solution comes to a price. That's why you have different products with different prices and quality.

I was starting to suffer from that but then I got a very bitter taste on a 2010 Prius I own as well as a 2012 Prius I own called bad head gasket. It totaled both cars since they had 145 and 152,000 miles on them. It would’ve been nice if Toyota would’ve acknowledged that I was alive as a customer. I really want to buy a tundra and dump my POS F150 but I am afraid they still won’t know I’m alive. I wish Scotty would do a story on it since it starts with a very quiet two second rattle when starting up or accelerating from a stop.
@tadghsmith1457
@tadghsmith1457 2 жыл бұрын
@@shawnmason5290 In fairness to Scotty, the Prius isn’t his favourite car. No electric car is. The battery goes out and the electrics are difficult and expensive to repair. Still that shouldn’t affect the head gasket. Toyotas aren’t bullet proof. Especially the newer ones. They might have statistically fewer faults than say Ford or Nissan etc, but that doesn’t mean they have no faults.

I like how Scotty explains what's bad most of the time, not only is it entertaining but informative. It's better to be aware of what to watch out for and how to protect yourself rather than be over saturated and blinded with only what's good all the time, and then you'd be much more vulnerable to get burned. At the same time as making us aware of what to look out for he also gives the alternative, as in what's a good idea to do. Like buy a Toyota :D

Speaking of grandpa stories, back in the fifties my grandpa was traveling in the mountains out west in a remote area when his car quit. He opened the hood and determined it was the distributor. The bushing was worn out and the shaft was flopping. He looks at it, takes off his wedding ring, and in a few minutes was back on the road. Your EV rant about not thinking things through is spot on. People do what is called one-stage thinking. They think to only the first stage and never go beyond that, never asking the how and what happens next type of questions. What are the consequences and costs, etc. Thinking things through would avoid a lot of problems and lots of bad decisions.

The opening question really hit home. I have been a repair technician for about 20 years, was trained by the US Army (33Ws what's up!!!) to approach most anything from a maintenance/repair perspective. Sooooo many people think I am super negative because I always approach anything from where I see potential issues first. It is funny even if I am trying to tell someone how great something is I will start with telling them the issues first, not to be negative but to set a baseline. Ohh well is what it is. I do fairly strongly disagree with the whole EV thing. Yes if every vehicle on the road today instantly became electric we don't have the power generation for that. but that wont happen it is going to be a slow process and we can increase power generation. It is also true that a lot of our power generation is using fossil fuels so not carbon neutral. The caveat though is even a dirty coal power plant the amount of CO2 it emits to cause a vehicle to travel a mile is less than most internal combustion engines. Sort of like going form a car that gets 25mpg to one that gets 50 mpg. Yes the latter is still an issue when it comes to CO2 emissions but it is better than the pervious one. It is also true that a 100% electric automotive industry including trucking wont stop global warming because most of our CO2 emissions come from manufacturing. EVs at best help slow the oncoming issues of global warming not stop it.

You need electricity to create hydrogen. To produce hydrogen, it must be separated from the other elements in the molecules where it occurs. There are many different sources of hydrogen and ways for producing it for use as a fuel. The two most common methods for producing hydrogen are steam-methane reforming and electrolysis (splitting water with electricity. Research is underway to develop other ways to produce hydrogen and a few include: Using microbes that use light to make hydrogen Converting biomass into gas or liquids and separating the hydrogen Using solar energy technologies to split hydrogen from water molecules

AFAIK, the pads don't fit correctly on the rotor because the person that ordered the rotors (whether it be the owner, an indie shop or the Mercedes stealership) didn't order the correct size. I had the same problem on my 2013 ML350 Bluetec (diesel). Rotors were too small and I was scratching my head until I found out that I need to order the bigger rotors (I had 330mm rotors on when my model used 350mm). That was my mistake ordering them through Rockauto. My suggestion is to double check your VIN and make sure the rotors are the correct size (check parts number). Mine has the sport package (bigger rotors). Regarding my suv, well, it runs like a dream at 242 000 km (around 150 000 miles). That's not to say that I never experienced any problems. At around 130 000 miles I had to change 1 rear shock that was leaking, the alternator, a DRL and a NOX sensor. No problems before that. So it's not that bad (did all of the repairs and maintenance myself with my father). Not the most reliable car that I've owned, but far the being the worst (2008 Dodge Avanger). I change the oil every 10 000 km (6000-7000 miles). I would recommend the car if you're decent/ok with DIY. If you're doing to bring it to the stealership everytime, I wouldn't recommend it.

I have a question Scotty. Sometimes I have heard you say that it doesn't matter where you buy gas because the gas in an area usually comes from one refinery, and there are minimum standards for detergents, so just buy it where ever you want to. In this video, and others you have produced you say "Don't buy cheap gas" in this case because of keeping the throttle body clean. So which is it?
