Princess Victorias mother was a commoner: She was a hostess at the Olympic Games in Munich 1972 where she met the then swedish Crown Prince Carl Gustav. So, there is nothing new with marrying as a commoner in the Royal Family

And: The ancestor of the Bernadottes ( the Swedish Royal Family) wasn’t even an aristocrat. He was Jean Bernadotte, a french Marshal, who has been adopted by King Charles XIII of Sweden. Jean Bernadotte was crowned in May 1818 and his reign lasted till March 1844. This mean the current Swedish Royal Family has a history of a mere 200 years. Bernadottes wife Desiree was a former mistress of Napoleon.

In fact, King Carl XVI is related to the previously deposed Swedish Royal Family of Sweden Holstein Gottorp as he is a direct descendant of King Gustav IV Adolf. The family blood ties go back to the beginning of Sweden’s royalty. Desiree wasn't Napoleon’s mistress, but she was his former fiance. Plus the, Princess Victoria is a direct descendant of Empress Josephine Napoleon’s wife.

@@violentofwakes11 King Carl Gustav of Sweden isnt related to the former reigning house of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf. He is a descendant of Jean Bernadotte, Napoleons former marechal. Jean Bernadotte was adopted by a childless so Swedish King, to secure the succession. Carl Gustavs mother was a german Princess, a descendant of the house of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha, and his grandmother was a descendant of the princely house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. I know, it is complicated.

As much as I appreciate our Swedish Royal Family and the hard work they do for our country, no monetary riches or material luxury in the world would make me want to change life with either of them even for a day! I have something so much more precious than all that bling and glam! I have my privacy and freedom to go to the store in sweatpants and Crocs with my hair looking unkept due to needing to be washed, and my glorious "don't give a shit, going to shower when I get back home" look won't make headlines, nor am I chased around by photographers every step I take. I'm amazed at how they put up with it all. For me, I much prefer life as a commoner, it may have less monetary richess and less material luxury, but just being able to go to ICA to get some groceries and snacks without guards and without it causing media attention is just worth so much more! I remember when our King, Queen and Crown Princess were in Denmark on an official state visit when I happened to live in Copenhagen, they went to Fields one day and I decided to go there that day just to see them along with the Queen of Denmark and her Prince. It was nice seeing them, but at the same time sad that it turned into such a spectacle instead of them just getting to walk around looking at things at their own pace and among other shoppers and without having to be surrounded by bodyguards just because there are nasty people out there who have no respect for human life. If I had the opportunity to have a chat with Crown Princess Victoria over some afternoon Swedish fika, I wouldn't treat her to some pretentious overly perfect pastries, I'd treat her with something home baked that may be a bit uneven looking but is made with love in a small batch with good quality and as many locally sourced ingredients as possible and no additives or artificial things. Just home baked the way I bake for myself and my family and friends, simple, maybe a bit wonky looking at times but tasting delicious. Professionals may make amazing looking creations, but there's often so many things in their creations that you'd never use at home, and as pretty as the creations can be, they do look a bit too perfect and often look better than they taste.

As a royal, you have a wonderful opportunity to make the world a little better. You can help a lot of people. I would love to do that. What a privilege! Also, your royal family is very down to earth, just like ours in the Netherlands. I'm sure they can go for groceries without bodyguards and a whole circus. Our Queen has been spotted in the cinemas with her daughters, sitting there like any commoner. It also seems she goes to a certain chocolate shop in the Hague, where they live. I'm sure our King goes out as well.

Well we are all people and not everyone is the same. Some want become kings and some prefer living anonimous in the woods. I mine opinion kings work verry hard and the only nice thing is their name and status. We common people see only the outward but I believe they have a harder live than we.

Thousands of Americans, for example, can trace their lineage (from the Scottish clans chiefs particularly) to these Scandinavian royal families (who are also connected to other royal families as most are connected in some way) but don't have their problems and the scrutiny their lives bring. I am glad I hail from them but don't live like them or have their problems It would be dreadfully confining. Nothing can take away how important privacy is. And who would want to live in such a terribly cold place even if it is in a palace. Better to make one's palace somewhere else in obscurity.
